CHILDREN OF BODOM Hope To Play Next Year's OZZFEST - Oct. 28, 2005
CHILDREN OF BODOM mainman Alexi Laiho has told MTV.com that he hopes his band will spend next summer as part of Ozzfest 2006.

"We've been talking about it, but I don't know if it's going to happen," he said. "It would be a really good thing to do, because it does a lot of good things to a lot of metal bands. I don't know if we'll get on it. It's really a question of money. The promotional value's really good. It seems like a lot of bands — LAMB OF GOD, SHADOWS FALL — really broke through after the Ozzfest. I think it would be good for us."

CHILDREN OF BODOM will launch a North American headlining trek on November 9 in Quebec. BODOM have recruited TRIVIUM and AMON AMARTH to open the tour's 27 dates. According to frontman and guitarist Alexi Laiho, BODOM had no involvement in setting things up. In fact he can't even recall what either band sounds like.

"To be honest I've heard [TRIVIUM and AMON AMARTH's] albums one time all the way through, and I was pretty drunk at the time," he confided, saying BODOM's management handled the tour's orchestration. "So I don't remember the music. I do remember it sounding cool. I'll wait to see what I think of them when I first see them live. Apparently TRIVIUM's a lot bigger than we are in the States. So it feels a little weird that we're the headliners."

Most people will not want to play it after what happened with Iron Maiden, if a legendary act like iron maiden can get the shit that they did, then anyone can, and frankly no one in their right mind will want to take that risk.

I reckon sales for this farcical event will be utter tripe next year, slaes this year were hardly impressive, next year they'll be dire.

Bullshit! Ozzfest means one thing to every band on the bill: $$

Exposure to kids who otherwise wouldn't know them, CD and t-shirt sales. Ozzfest '06 will be just as big, if not bigger than '05.

Hell, even Trivium will play it again, even after their silly little Maiden tribute/protest.

I just can't put my $$ on this band.

the only way it would fail is if all the scenester types who go to it rethought their lives and realised how shallow and substanceless it is, which is what metal is supposed to be the opposite off when you think about it...

Look at In Flames, a band bigger than COB and they were intentionally logged for side stage. By chance got main but it still didn't affect their playing time. That was btw the worst performance by In Flames I have seen. No one really gave two shits about them because of Zombie.

Can you honestly say that Ozzfest will continue to be successful in the next 5 years? I give it two more at the most, and the likelihood of any future bookings will drop with the rise of other new festivals on the loose.

Festivals in the U.S. so far have a 10 year life span. Like it or not, Ozzfest is on it's way out. Also, people in this country don't have as much disposable income as they used to. Your wife Sharon isn't helping herself either with that Ego. $80 for a concert ticket to see a lineup of bands you only half care for is pointless when people are paying $40 just to fill their cars to get to work for the week.

Being a working stiff like myself who contributes to society and pays taxes and puts up with the same Bullshit the rest of the world puts up with, I'll hold out.

Take a band like Opeth for example. They've commented how they'd rather avoid a festival like Ozzfest because they'd rather not have to pay money to your wife to play. They prefer to get paid for playing. They instead played a festival that was reasonably priced and got some pretty great exposure in the process. Look it up. Nevermore as well. I think they did a pretty good round during Gigantour and are vieng for metal album of the year along side Opeth if I'm correct.

So, are you implying Opeth and Nevermore are shitty bands who have to maintain their careers in fast food between tours so they can survive (since they'd rather not take a ride with Ozzy and your wife Sharon for the summer)? I don't think you should say things like that around here.

I have nothing against Corporate driven tours. I've been to my share of Ozzfests (when they were more affordable and the metal was better), I just don't care for the quality of metal from the bands they book anymore. I went to S.O.T.U. and had a great time.

However, should Opeth have played Ozzfest instead of S.O.T.U., I would have held out because they would have been the ONLY band I wanted to see. And seeing how they would have been dumped on the second stage with a 20 minute set, I would have paid $80 to see maybe 2 songs, when I could easily wait till the tour came to my town, (as it be the case Sunday), and catch a full 90 minute set for $25. And since they didn't play Ozzfest, I was able to see them over the summer as well along with many other great forms of Metal at a reasonable price.

That's all I have to say.

Now Playing - Meshuggah:Nothing (Another band who can't afford to quit their fast food jobs because they didn't play the almighty Ozzfest)

You nailed it man, Pethical man if you want to hear the same shit over and over again go put Follow The Reaper on repeat. The change in sound shows that COB have many different styles at their disposal. And what are you talking about Ozzfest is not going to be around in a few years, they sold out almost all their tour dates. Sure they bought into the shit metalcore, but they also brought in Arch Enemy and In Flames, and both bands got some great exposure, especially Arch Enemy's whose record sales took the fuck off after Ozzfest. Also sure the tickets are pricey but think about how many bands you are seeing and think about the price of a ticket would be for a fucking Black Sabbath tour alone. If you don't care to see Black Sabbath then don't fucking go or complain about the price because you weren't planning on going anyways. And fucking COB's cover songs are a joke you fucking morons, just read a fucking interview "well we cover songs that nobody would expect us to, so they go what the fuck are they playing?"

look, I dont like ozzfest....if a band wants to play it for exposure so they can make money than so be it. we all like to think everyones "in it for the music dude" but everyone wants to get fucking paid.

I got nothing against opeth and nevermore, i actually saw nevermore live. great musicians just not my kind of vocals. Gigantator was great exposure, maybe not as much as ozzfest, since according to blabbermouth posters the tour was a flop but I cant really say. The topic was ozzfest so I did not take into account other festivals.

I'm pissed. I missed a chance to see Priest, Maiden, Ozzy, Trivium, etc. etc. etc.
And who I was really looking forward too... Mastodon.

But, as God as my witness, if Alexi is serious about playing Ozzfest '06 - I'm pinching pennies today for my ticket.

I'm not endorsing ozzfest in anyway, i'm just trying to be realistic. i don't think Bodom will need to pay to play. i honestly dont think bodom will pay to play in the first place (too much $) but the long term payoff may be worth it (yes some people consider long term effects rather than short term instant pleasure) I think Bodom has such a big fanbase here and worldwide (ozzfest does go to europe) that ozzfest would be lucky to have them. you didnt see slayer and pantera paying to play (dont get upset im not putting bodom and slayer in the same league im just saying that bodom is not some up and coming band, they have been around for years)

Granted, the Ozzfest lineup wasn't great last year and Sabbath just couldn't hammer it home the way they've done oh so many times before. Nonetheless, can we really be so quick to cast aside all the great days that have been spent at the Ozzfest? Metal at 9am in the morning, glorious mosh pitting, vulgar T-shirts, great bands and who could ever forget the fierce intensity that was Ozzfest 2004.
The point is, just because Ozzfest couldn't top itself the last time out doesn't mean that it should be dissed so harshly. All of you have been to the Ozzfest and all of you have been turned on to a new band, seen one of your favorite bands and had an excellent experience at at least one of them.
I didn't go last year either, but what would we do without the Metal Summer Camp machine that is Ozzfest? You know you would fucking miss it...You sure as hell aint going to the Europe festivals next summer!
