'Lords Of Chaos' Norwegian Black Metal Movie To Go Into Pre-Production - Nov. 5, 2005
San Diego film company ZU33 is currently developing "Lords of Chaos", a fiction film based on true events in the Norwegian black metal music scene in the early 1990s. The project goes into pre-production in November, with physical production scheduled to begin in Februrary 2006. The screenplay was written by Hans Fjellestad, Ryan Page and Adam Parfrey. Fjellestad is set to direct.

The movie is based on the book "Lords of Chaos: The Bloody Rise of the Satanic Metal Underground" (view cover/details at Amazon.com), which documents some of the events that have occurred in black metal's history, including the murder of MAYHEM's Aasarth Oystein (better known as Euronymous) at the hands of BURZUM mastermind Varg Vikernes (a.k.a. Count Grishnackh).

ZU33 described the movie as follows: "Equal parts music, true crime, occult, and subcultural anthropology, the book by Michael Moynihan and Didrik Søderlind chronicles the Norwegian black metal music scene in the early 1990s. Since that time, nearly 100 churches have been torched and desecrated by adherents of black metal, the most extreme form of underground music on the planet. In an escalating unholy war, black metal bands and their obsessive fans have left a grim legacy of suicide, murder and terrorism spreading from Norway to Germany, Russia, America and beyond. The feature film will focus on the relationship between legendary figures Varg Vikernes and Euronymous and the rest of the 'Black Circle' as they wage war against the powers that be in their native country."

"Lords of Chaos: The Bloody Rise of the Satanic Metal Underground" was originally published in 1998 by Feral House U.S. A second edition followed in 2003 which documents black metal activities since 1997.

Hans Fjellestad will make his feature film directorial debut with "Lords of Chaos" after two highly successful and critically acclaimed documentary films, "Moog" (2004, Plexifilm) and "Frontier Life" (2002, Third World Newsreel).

Ha ha ha!! That was too blatant. If you're trying to wind people up about nu-metal you have to approach it a bit more subtly.
Perhaps... "Varg Vikernes?! Didn't he play guitar in Limp Bizkit for a while?"

How can a film about black metal , be about nu-metal ?!. U think nu-metal even existed in the 1990s...

I've got that one, and yes it's quite good. A bit too much emphasis on the dying 80s punk scene though...

i find it hard to fathom this movie being finished. sounds perfect for a showing at an art house. this book covers a crazy period in the history of metal. they should use cameos from all the people. i, for one, would find it visually appealing to see some of this put on the silver screen. take dead blowing his brains out, or bard murdering that guy in the olympic village. anything on fire usually looks good on screen.

while i do agree that "choosing death" is a better read, "lord's of chaos" is more entertaining. murder death and chaos is always more intresting than reading about the revolving door of grindcore-besides, is there anyone "movie ugly" to play shane?!

just jokes! grindcore is prob my fav music

I wonder if they'll explain the need for incompetant, and shitty vocalists as well. Or wait, is that because I'm not "extreme" enough to get it. I had some pudding the other day that said it was extreme so I figured I'd get it but no. It still sounds like someone with a massive bowel condition.

You'll find that my nu-metal reply was tongue-in-cheek. It's a nod towards 99% of the posts on this wonderful board. Like you said, nu-metal bashing is a trend that sucks. Here are some other trends in this fucking place that are too funny.

1. Bashing Nu-Metal
2. Bashing Metallica
3. Bashing Metallica by saying their Nu-Metal, while they are actually more like country-rock.
4. Claiming to have liked Metallica through ....And Justice for All, but afterwards wishing the band had all died along w/ Cliff
5. Political rants - this is fucking blabbermounth!!! Have fun!!! Let the world go down the proverbial toilet bowl and just laugh!!!

I heard there is one. Actually I read it in interviews with Fenriz and other guys. Some people who live in the States are making it. The guy's in a noise band and the girl is probably really ugly. (JK!) I read that Harmoney Korine is involved with it too. I don't when it's coming out, I've been hearing about it for a while. I bet it kick the ass of a movie based on that ridiculous Lords of Chaos book. I'd much reather see Fenriz and VArg and whoever else than see people acting like Fenriz and Varg. That's just...pointless. Like the book. Oh I get it now.

Seriously though, I don't understand poeple who think black metal is just all about running around being crazy burning churches. It's also about blood sacrifices and eating babies. No seriously, there IS a lot more going on. I heard the documentray is actually serious and not just about the crimes. I can't wait to see what these guys like Hellhammer and Varg and the others have to say for themselves. I wonder if they're anything like what my image of them is, from their music and interviews and retarded things that get written about them (no offense, D-mom) in the media. Anyway, just thought I'd pass that along, and if anyone knows about hte documentary could you post it because I don't know when it's out or what it's called.
