BLACK SABBATH's IOMMI: We Deserve ROCK AND ROLL HALL OF FAME Induction - Nov. 8, 2005
Launch Radio Networks reports: BLACK SABBATH will finally get their Hall Of Fame induction this year, but it's not the Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame. The band has been added to the list of honorees for the second annual UK Music Hall Of Fame ceremony, which is being held November 16 at the Alexandra Palace in North London.

Also being inducted this year are PINK FLOYD, BOB DYLAN, JIMI HENDRIX, JOY DIVISION/NEW ORDER, THE KINKS and EURYTHMICS.

The show will air live on Channel 4 (UK) as well as VH1 on November 26, then move to VH1 Classic starting November 27.

BLACK SABBATH guitarist Tony Iommi told Launch he is not happy that SABBATH are not yet inducted into the Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame. "I'm pissed off about that," he said. "I think that's... you know, I don't normally go round blowing our own trumpet saying we are this and we are that. I'm not that kind of person but I really think we deserve... you know, to be in that. Because without us that kind of music wouldn't have existed. 'Cause a lot of bands that have sparked off from us wouldn't be around and there probably wouldn't be this king of music."

Artists are eligible to be inducted into the Rock Hall after at least 25 years have passed since their first record was released.

Six years ago, Ozzy Osbourne attempted to take BLACK SABBATH's name off the Hall of Fame's 1999 nomination list, deeming the institution's nod "meaningless."

In an October 1999 letter to the Hall of Fame, Osbourne said: "Just take our name off the list. Save the ink. Forget about us. The nomination is meaningless, because it's not voted on by the fans. It's voted on by the supposed elite for the industry and the media, who've never bought an album or concert ticket in their lives, so their vote is irrelevant to me." He added, "Let's face it, BLACK SABBATH has never been media darlings. We're a people's band and that suits us just fine."

Congrats to Sabbath.

Iron Maiden was first released 1980. 25 yrs later, they've sold millions more fucking records than most bands would dream of. Its about time they were recognised.

Who the fuck does Ozzy think he is (or thought he was when he wrote that claptrap)? Perhaps he wasn't expressing the sentiments of all his bandmates.

Iommi's right, of course. Ozzy is, well, Ozzy.

R&RHoF is the biggest joke I have ever been to.

Why would any band want to be part of such an irrelevant, meaningless, absurd, group anyway?

When I went there, the majority of all I seen was groups that had NOTHING to do relating to "Rock N Roll".

Sabbath is one of my fav bands of all-time, however making statements like "Because without us that kind of music wouldn't have existed" is total nonsense.

The Rock & Roll Hall Of Fame, that is. Its label executives that vote bands in, not fans. That means its usually only bands that sell a zillion records that get in. Sabbath has influenced countless bands. That should be enough for them to be voted in, yet they've been on the ballot 8 times and still have not gotten in. What a joke.

Iommi is such a drama queen I swear to christ. True, they do deserve the honor but Ozzy hit the nail right on the head saying that it's not from the fans the honor is given. In reality, they're already in the fucking hall of fame. They're the most praised band in metal so why do they even need a bunch of 'know it all music experts' to tell them that. "Hey you guys, In case you didn't know, you kick ass and have been the most influential band in the past 30 years. Here's this bullshit award to commemorate it." When they start giving a poll for the fans to vote on who should be on the hall of fame then the institution will be credible. Until then, it's just like winning a Grammy Award.

Yes, and now this man is going to play for the royal family, after cancelling a number of appearances at Ozzfest this year.

Interesting how Ozzy turns a new face when talking about an induction to a Hall of Fame. Oh well, he's right about the people that vote on it not knowing shit about music other than the extremely staged interviews filtered out by PR. Doesn't matter, though. They helped to form one of the greatest subgenres of Rock music. And form, they did.

Well Ozzy is an old man, and his head and vocal chords have been severely tampered with after all of the drugs and alcohol. If he can't sing the songs then he sure as hell can't go on stage now can he?

Since he's british as well, playing for the royal family might be a great honor for him you know. His quote still holds credibility no matter what he has done in the past couple of months.

Iron Maiden is about the only old-school metal band I can think of that actually injected history and literature into their songs. And better yet, they got away with it, and many of these songs became classics.

From what I heard, one of last year's inductee's was a country musician who made one rock song that was a one-hit wonder. A country musician with one rock song that was a one-hit wonder gets in over Black Sabbath, Iron Maiden, Van Halen, Kiss, Rush and Judas Priest, are you serious? Black Sabbath's first six albums should get them, Iron Maiden's talents, Van Halen (78-84) selling nearly 40 million albums and 2 of them sold over 10 million plus they have an amazing guitarist, Kiss sold over 80 million albums, Rush have 3 of the most talented musicians of all time and Judas Priest also made a huge impact with their vocals and guitar playing. So why does a country musician get in over six bands who made an impact?

Tony seems cool but that Hall is way overrated. Come on, they nominated CONWAY TWITTY last year. You think the Country Music Hall of Fame would nominate the Stones or the Doors?

All this navel-gazing self-congratulation is a bunch of crap anyway. Focus on making good music and doing good shows, & not becoming a punchline (that's you, Ozzy).

well shit, If Tony fuckin Iommi wants Black Sabbath to be in the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame then they should be in it. How much can a one night induction going to hurt their reputation, to say the least.

I don't know how many people can turn heels when they see something like "Black Sabbath are denied of R&R HoF" . . . or "Anonymous says Black Sabbath weren't responsible for creating this type of music."

make up your minds . . . Sabbath should be in the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame if it makes them any happier, it might be meaningless to some of you, obviously it's a worth a lot to Tony Iommi and he is part of Sabbath, we are not. they deserve to complain.

You know this rock hall of fame is just another example of "Oh,we are not fulfilled anymore so we have to think of another way to pat ourselves on the back hollywood bullshit. The music if it's worth anything, will stand the test of time. Do they get paid when they get inducted? If so, go for it Tony! I can understand if thats the case then, since Ozzy has all the money.

It should never have been for Ozzy to attempt to pull Black Sabbath form a possible nomination into the RnRHoF. He left after 10 years Iommi staied, gave his all and deservedly should be included in the Hall. Black Sabbath's contributions to Rock/ Heavy Metal music are that bands legacey, with or with out Ozzy Black Sabbath has endoured.
Long Live Black Sabbath !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
