DEATH ANGEL Frontman Launches New Band - Nov. 8, 2005
DEATH ANGEL frontman Mark Osegueda has posted the following message on the band's official web site:

"Hey guys!! It's Mark here. Thank you for all the support. You guys fucking rule!!! Just letting you know that I have a new band. Don't get me wrong. I still sing for DEATH ANGEL. But while there is this bit of down time. I needed to keep busy. So new is this band that we don't even have a name yet. But I'm lovin' it. And it's fun as hell playing again. Probably won't start playing out 'till early next year. The music is more straight-ahead balls-out rock. (MC5, THE BRONX) short punchy songs. Very in your face!! For those of you from the Bay Area, the band consists of a couple of guys from LICA-STO, a guy from TRES PISTOLAS, a guy who was in THE SICK, and THE OOZIES, and a guy from DEATH ANGEL!! (me). We have like six songs, and more keep coming fast. I'll keep you all posted. But I assure you this does not mean DEATH ANGEL is dead. I can't wait to be on stage again with them. But music is my life, and I can only stay still for so long!! I also can't wait to play out with these guys. It's FUCKING FUN, man!!

"Until then, I'll keep you posted. I miss every one of you beautiful motherfuckers.
See you soon. But never soon enough for me."

DEATH ANGEL's latest CD, "The Art of Dying", was released in May 2004 through Nuclear Blast Records. The group's first studio album since 1990's "Act III", "The Art of Dying" was recorded at SF Soundworks studios in San Francisco, California with producer Brian Joseph Dobbs (VOIVOD, MANMADEGOD).

Ultra-violence is an intense thrasher... Frolic is a fun funk-thrasher, Act III is a nice experimental release. In their heyday, this band never released the same album twice, which is admirable.

Haven't heard their comeback album but I heard it was disappointingly straightforward non-thrash.

I'll give it a listen, but I'm not too optimistic. DA kicked ass for the Ultraviolence and Act III was pretty good. Didn't care for the others. They hit their prime at 15 and 16 years of age with the Ultraviolence... IMHO, of course.

.. when they got back from touring last year, the Wives said stay home, we gots babies; then one of the wives got sick. So they are kinda being domestic right now. But Mark is the only one that is not tied down like that, so he wants to do the damn thing. He's a rock guy, not so much a metal guy, so doing something a little different than what DA fans are use to is going to be hard for them to swallow.. Good music is good music, and I'm sure that these new guys can play, cuz he's use to really good players in a band....

Voracious Souls

In the night
In the circle of death
They congregate to hold a feast
There lies a body in the center of the ring
Each human soon becomes a beast

They sing the song to glorify the dead
They chant, the chant eternal life
The master sails as he lifts the gleaming blade
The sound of flesh sliced by the knife

Men without anguish
Men without fear
Men chosen to ride the earth
Evil confrontation nears

These mindless sinners
Sit there without
Greed, not even grief
The final incision
Having now been complete
As these ominous demons
Start to eat

A strident hum
Lurks through the room
The bloody bath to set them free
As they fulfill their long awaited dream
A bloody orgy of intense ecstasy

I can definately recommend The Art of Dying, it was far more than "dissapointingly straight forward non thrash". One of the albums of last year IMO.

Good luck Mark. Personally I like his vocals.

Good call Sean 510 (good music is good music). I definitely agree with that.

More Death Angel in 2006! (I heard that DA will prolly get back together mid 2006 to talk about a new album).

But they are great live - and Mark is one of the most entertaining front men in metal - Even with the 14 years between recordings - they are young enough to put out 5 more cd's! Do it!

I can't wait! But if he's going to compare his music to the Bronx and MC5, he better fucking deliver! Those are some bands to live up to!
