SOUNDSCAN Report: SLIPKNOT, OZZY OSBOURNE, DEEP PURPLE

SLIPKNOT's first full-length concert album, "9.0 Live", has sold just over 42,000 copies in the United States in its first week of release to debut at position No. 17 on next week's The Billboard 200 chart. Meanwhile, OZZY OSBOURNE's new collection, "Under Cover", shifted just under 9,000 copies to land at No. 134 — a surprisingly low number considering that the set includes newly completed covers of JOHN LENNON's "Woman", JOE WALSH's "Rocky Mountain Way" and the MOODY BLUES' "Go Now" (along with 10 other cuts that were released earlier this year on the "Under Covers" disc of the OZZY boxed set "Prince of Darkness"). Even more disappointing is the first-week number for DEEP PURPLE's "Rapture of the Deep", which registered a first-week tally of around 2,500 despite several months of pre-release hype.

What's surprising about it? It's a reissue of a cover album which was released earlier this year, with a few extra songs that nobody cares about. Throw in the whole Iron Maiden incident backlash and Presto!, commercial failure. If there are any Ozzy fans left, (and I'm sure there are, I'm not saying anything bad about the guy), they probably want a new album of fresh original material from him, if that's possible at this point in his career.

Flanders has it figured out. People don't want to hear Ozzy sing Mississippi Queen or Woman...they want brand new Ozzy. Evidence for this...his last album of original material shifted 6 times the amount this cover album did on the first week.

...is the best guitarist Deep Purple has ever had. "purpendicular" was really good with him, but afterwards the albums have become same-y and mediocre. It will be a cold day in hell the day I Ebay "Machinehead", but I Ebayed "Bananas" and "Abandon" pretty quickly. Now I download before buying, and don;t buy the albums because they're substandard.
Ozzy is no longer relevant.

The new Deep Purple album is excellent. Didn't sell too badly in the UK, just missed out on the top 40.
Just too bad that the general music buying public has no taste.

all 3 of those albums are sorry. nobody wants an ozzy cover album, everybody wants new sabbath material. nobody cares about deep purple without blackmore. and wtf, slipknot? they make me ashamed to tell people i'm into metal. personally i'm a bigger fan of the Coq-Roq band myself.

FUCK SLIPKNOT'S 9.0 LIVE. the earlier live DVD before that piece of shit Vol. 3 album came out was way better. last decent thing they put out/last decent tour.

...But that band, my friends, can't be called Deep Purple if neither Blackmore nor Jon Lord are in there. Paice is the only funding member in the band now.
It's obvious, their concerts still sell good, but their albums dont. Draw your own conclusions...
