Former DIMMU BORGIR/CRADLE OF FILTH Drummer Featured On DUST EP - Nov. 17, 2005
Former CRADLE OF FILTH/DIMMU BORGIR drummer Nick Barker is featured on the new EP from DUST, the brainchild of artist Jez Ball. The EP was recorded drums in the U.K. in September, with production by Greg Brimson (RAMMSTEIN, PARADISE LOST, METALLICA) and engineering by Russ Russell (NAPALM DEATH). The CD will be mastered by John Cornfield for a tentative January 25, 2006 release.

Brimson describes the initial album demo as "pure genius," with Barker adding, "It made all the hairs on my body stand up." Following the month-long recording, Barker confirmed he has officially joined DUST a full-fledged member.

The demo will be available for free download from the band's site, www.Dust-Band.com, until the date of release.

DUST was born in London in 1999. The group's first EP, "Superman", was quickly snapped up by U.K.-based label Copro Records. DUST quickly rose to prominence in the U.K. metal scene, and various tours followed. "Superman" was well received across Europe, with the U.K.'s Metal Hammer and Italy's Psycho! magazines putting tracks on their covermount CDs. Following extensive club and radio play (including London's largest alternative radio station, XFM), Jez moved to New York to take advantage of the heady international atmosphere and vibrant underground club scene, to find inspiration and further exposure.

DUST's full length album, "Anomie", is currently in production with Greg Brimson.

Nick is a kick ass drummer, i hope he has the cocaine addiction beaten, he needs to stop getting kicked out of bands for it.

Yeah rancid_flaps he was kicked out because his addiction was getting in the way of him doing his job in the band. But yeah hopefully he has that under control, must have now that he is in a new band.

He rulled in Dimmu Borgir and in Cradle of Filth. It is a pity about the drugs..

I was wondering what happened to him. He's one of my favorite drummers. I'm definitely checking this band out.

Ok I just listened to the songs "Dust" and "Cold". All I have to say is, what the fuck man? How did Nick Barker go from BLACK METAL to EMO? I was expecting earth shattering double-bass and super fast blast beats.....instead I got simple drumming. Drumming a monkey with drum sticks could do. Why man? WHY?!?!?!?!?!

Diversity, maybe?
Is it a "crime against metal" or something to listen to something slightly different to your "usual" listening habits?
Even greater respect to Nick for showing people that one doesn't just have to play the same kind of music all the time to enjoy it.
Sometimes simple is good- and lets face it, we all KNOW that Nick can do the fast and furious..

i can see where people might gripe about this but i say this if you like early my diying bride i see no reason why people wouldnt enjoy this, it is deffintly atmospheric and the quality is great as far as musicanship goes, gald to hear some diversity in nick's drumming , he has been spinning his wheels for sometime. Anyhow i really enjoy this material

COMMENT | He should join GRIP INC.

Waldemar Sorychta and Gus Chambers once considered to replace Dave Lombardo, in case he'd be too occupied with Slayer and therefore unable to invest more time in Grip Inc. - and Lombardo obviously is. Barker is a high profile metal drummer who could do the job and as much as I love Dave in Grip Inc., I'd spend my cash on an album featuring Sorychta, Chambers, Carruthers and Barker in a heartbeat.

Savage Seas, Hostage To Heaven, Guilty Of Innocence, Heretic War Chant, Dragging Me Down, Paint it Black, Pathetic Liar, Portrait Of Henry, Rusty Nail, Code Of Silence, Amped, Lockdown, Foresight, Human?, Vindicate, Betrayer, Bug Juice, Curse (Of The Cloth), Skin Trade, (Built To) Resist...

All killer material that must be resurrected! Grip Inc. MUST carry on, with or without Lombardo. If Slayer won't be able to recapture the spirit of the Seasons In The Abyss era on their forthcoming album, I say fuck them.
