AUDIOSLAVE Bassist Calls SOUNDGARDEN Songs A Challenge
- Nov. 18, 2005
|
|
|
Launch Radio Networks reports: AUDIOSLAVE has given its fans a real thrill at its 2005 concerts by playing material from the band members' previous acts, RAGE AGAINST THE MACHINE and SOUNDGARDEN. Bassist Tim Commerford, formerly of RAGE, told Launch that as a SOUNDGARDEN fan, he's been enjoying himself as well. "SOUNDGARDEN rules," he said. "It's fun to play the songs. It's very challenging to play SOUNDGARDEN songs, and an example is, like, 'Rusty Cage'. We've been playing that in our set here recently, and it's a song that I've heard thousands of times, and we had to learn it, and it wasn't easy, and I understand it now on a musical level, and I have more respect for SOUNDGARDEN."
AUDIOSLAVE wraps up its first headlining trip through North American arenas tomorrow night (Saturday, November 19) in Las Vegas, Nevada. The band will perform on NBC-TV's "The Tonight Show with Jay Leno" next Tuesday (November 22).
AUDIOSLAVE plans to head home and continue working on the follow-up to this year's sophomore album, "Out of Exile". The band has written and recorded some new material over the past few months, and has even played a few new songs on its current tour. The group is also launching an official fan club. More info can be found at Audioslave.com.

They have all grown tired I agree. At least RATM didn't write 4 ballads on 1 CD like audioslut does.
Soundgarden was headed down pop alley if they had not disbanded when they did.
Now even though Temple Of The Dog was mellow I liked that and I would like to see Cornell get back with that lineup and get RATM back together and IAN THORNLEY work with the Soundgarden guys and everyone can be happy.

Yeah, I understand it must be difficult to play Rusty Cage since he´s used to play that rap metal bullshit. And Audioslave is mostly just awful. Soundgarden was way more complex than RATM or Audioslave ever was. Bring back Soundgarden! NOW! Gaaaah. I'm gonna listen to some ´garden now.......

how about picking some other Soundgarden tunes to play live instead of the predictable Rusty Cage? i'm guessing they'll be playing Spoonman and/Black Hole Sun everynow and again, too? how about obe or two of these: Outshined, Jesus Christ Pose, Room A Thousand Years Wide, or maybe Ugly Truth, Hands All Over, Power Trip, Big Dumb Sex, Let Me Drown, My Wave, Superunknown, Pretty Noose, Rhinosaur instead? that'd be better than hearing Rusty Cage, Spoonman, Black Hole Sun for the 10 billionth time.

The irony is comedy at it's purest, and even I wouldn't want that to go unsaid. What's funny is that you don't get the 'reason'. The reason is to get a rise out of you. I'm an antagonist, and your an idiot. I do it for the same reason that you are still going on about the irony of describing someone as ignorent. Because you like to get me going.

What does finding something challenging have to do with understanding where the music is coming from? I find Racer X's Technical Difficulties to be challenging to play, but I understand the song. I find Opeth's The grand conjuration easy to play, but I don't have a clue where their music is coming from. Ya Opeth are overrated.

Tim says: "it's a song that I've heard thousands of times, and we had to learn it, and it wasn't easy, "
I say: "Tim-bob is a solid bass player, I'm suppries to hear he found Rusty Cage difficult."
Then you say: "i think the point most of you inbreds missed is that he 'understands' soundgarden music now more than before because of songs like rusty cage..."
So I say once again: "true. but you sound ignorent. so who cares."

cool that someone got back on topic and was able to acknowledge my post, i was hoping someone would make that type of remark eventually, especially if you look at about the next three dozen posts after i tried to inject my remarks in the conversation. thank you. personally i think the list of songs i listed would make a pretty bad-ass Soundgarden best-of album if you left Rusty Cage, Spoonman, and Black Hole Sun off of it, that's basically the track listing you'd end up with, or maybe a couple other tracks replacing some of the ones i listed. that'd be my dream Soundgarden setlist if they were to reunite....of course i'd wanna hear those couple of hits on there too.

Just behind Alice in Chains, Soundgarden are right up there as one of my favorite bands of all time. I would have to agree with molotov that they should mix up the Soundgarden setlist a little bit more. I know Cornell only wants to do Soundgarden songs that he wrote, but they should go with something other than the big hit songs.
And I thought I heard somebody say that Soundgarden were "heading down the pop trail" or something equally as stupid. This person obviously hasn't spent any time listening to Down on the Upside. Personally, I think this was the best AND darkest album they released. Superunknown has some amazing dark tunes on it like Limo Wreck, Fresh Tendrils, 4th of July, Like Suicide, etc... But from start to finish, Down on the Upside comes across as being the furthest thing from pop they ever released. Songs like Boot Camp, Tighter & Tighter and Overfloater are a few of the best songs Soundgarden ever wrote.
