CHRIS FEHN Talks About The Future Of SLIPKNOT - Nov. 18, 2005
Andre Mihsin of ChartAttack.com recently conducted an interview with SLIPKNOT percussionist Chris Fehn. Several excerpts from the chat follow:

ChartAttack.com: When we last spoke in January, you talked about how there was a lot of b.s. surrounding the relationship between band members during the end of the Iowa tour and during the break between albums. How are relations between the band members this time around?
Chris Fehn: "They're killer. Like I probably told you before, it took that break to save this band. Being in this band, being in this music world, it could tear people apart really fast. So we took that break and now we're back stronger than ever. But if you're talking about this leg of the tour, it's rough because it's the last one. It's like waiting for Christmas or some shit. We're holding it together, we're going to make it and then we're going to take some good quality time off."

ChartAttack.com: What did you guys do differently this time to ensure that the band would stick together for so long without getting at each other's throats?

Chris Fehn: "We're just a lot more open with everything that goes on. You grow up every record cycle, you learn a little bit more about what's going on. We always gain a little more respect for each other and more tolerance and we just keep going because we know this band is the one, we're the chosen ones whether we like it or not.

ChartAttack.com: There was very little communication between members during the last break between albums. Do you think you guys will communicate more during this break?

Chris Fehn: "Probably not. We spent so much time together; I've been living with these guys on a 40-foot bus for 20 months now. I get more time with them than I do with my family and everybody understands that. It's not like you feel separated, I mean, we got so many people, wives and children that we need to spend time with. Obviously we'll keep in touch once in a while. The Blackberries help, that invention brought us a little closer because instead of having this weird phone conversation, really quick you're just like, 'What's up dude?!' Sometimes we'll see each other in clubs in Des Moines and there's always SLIPKNOT business going on whether we like it or not. But we pretty much do our own thing until we come back and everyone understands that. There's nothing weird about it. It's family time."

ChartAttack.com: I know Corey [Taylor] and Joey [Jordison] and some of the other guys have side projects away from SLIPKNOT. What do you have going on?

Chris Fehn: "I paint houses man. Yep, I go to work, straight up. SLIPKNOT's enough for me [musically]. I'm going to get my first computer pretty soon, so I might try and put some guitar riffs on it, just screw around with that. I honestly don't have the energy to try to get something started and get a band signed and figure all that out. I'm just not that guy. I'll probably just spend time with the family and work a job and get back into that normal life, as normal as it can be, and go watch Clown and Corey and those guys' bands."

good interview.he sounds way more subdues and cool than i wouldve thought giving his onstage antics and personality.its cool he actually works when slipknots on break.he really doesnt have to given as much money as that band generates.sounds like an allaround cool guy, hope they dont wait to to long for the next slipknot album, vol 3 leaves u wanting more only cause its nowhere near as good as it couldve been.they shouldnt leave there legacy like that.say what u want about this band, but to be as heavy as they were on the first 2 cds and still go platinum, thats a pretty good thing right there.they were borderline death metal on some songs from iowa.hope the new one returns to that sound but still keeps the cool melody and guitar soloS!!!!!volume 3 had.new stone sour should be interesting too,get inside was a good song.alubm was generic to me though.

COMMENT | The reason he works is because Slipcock isnt a money machine for this guy

Does not involve a major tourbus accident and all their fat, androgynous boy fat-tard fans killing themselves, I don't care.

has always been a big question mark. Just seems that as soon as people get ready to write them off the put out a record and tour. My gut tells me we'll get 3 maybe 4 more records out them. They still haven't written their epic or concept album yet which I think is in the near future. Maintaining that level of intensity ages you fast and the torch is always passed on. Nothing last forever but the Knot will have a legacy.

sorry to say, Slipknot isn't going anywhere...they are going to be like Slayer...I mean the kids really like them and they always pack the venues they play, their fans are loyal and actually seem to have fun at their shows and get really into as opposed to just watching the band with their arms crossed on their chest and being too metal to have a good time...Slipknot is the gateway metal band, they do more good than harm...it sucks they have more fans than the bands that are better than them but I believe they make it easier for the kids get into this thing called metal that we all love so much...blah blakjdflkasdjf;hn;kjbui

I'd like to hear a heavier follow up CD but the problem is getting Corey to go back to his Iowa scream and not his damn Stone Sour singing.

His voice (screams especially) on Vol 3 sounded forced and therefore shitty.

Iowa>Mate Feed Kill Repeat>self-titled>Vol. 3

i wish they'd broken up after Iowa. they really ran out of ideas after Iowa. it's so fucking evident on Vol. 3 it's not even funny.

Percussionists are important. And slipknot has a pretty sweet drummer. I bet you're one of the dumbasses that think guitar and maybe vocals are all there is.

you said: "androgynous boy..."

that doesn't exactly make sense. androgynous means the gender of something is indeterminate. so how can it be genderless and also then describe it as 'boy' after that? please find a dictionary, peruse it, learn the words, and learn how to use them properly.

either that or just do the most obvious of solutions: commit suicide. seriously, it's what's best for you.

yeah I think if 96 people showed up to their show people here woudl start to like them.

popularity and how good a metal band are inversely related, everyone here knows that.

Whats going to happen during this break. You know Coreys gonna get all into Stone Sour again. I really wonder if there will be another album or their just not going to not say anything and kind of fade away. The things that were said during the last break sounded adament that Vol. 3 was the last album. I hope they continue...I'd like to see how far they could take this. If you love them or hate them you gotta give them credit. They came from absolutely nothing/nowhere and are one of the biggest bands in the world.
