AC/DC: 'In The Begining' Early Live Recording 'Nothing But A False Rumor'

According to a posting on the AC/DC fan and collectors site AC/DC Highway To Hell, the previously announced bootleg LP containing the earliest known AC/DC recording in existence has turned out to be "nothing more than a glorified rumor created by someone in Europe to cause a stir. Apparently no such recording exists, as something like this would have surfaced many many years ago by now if it did." The LP, entitled "In the Beginning", was alleged to have been recorded at the Hampton Court Hotel in Sydney, Australia in March 1974 with the lineup of Angus Young (guitar), Malcolm Young (guitar), Dave Evans (vocals), Neil Smith (bass) and Noel Taylor (drums).

Frankly, I've never understood the reasoning behind fake bootlegs. In my 20 years or so of collecting, I've seen tons of fakes. for example, remember those tracks that were supposedly early Van halen recordings that turned out to be a band called The Boys with George Lynch? What the fuck is the point? It's not like the person who originates the fake bootleg gets rich from it, or anything like that.
