COMMENT | Fall? World's "Greatest" Band?

Did they fall? John Bonham died but if he hadn't wouldn't you think they would have continued to be great. Speaking of which, are/were they the "greatest" band on the planet? Sure they have sold more than anyone pretty much but isn't that matter of opinion in only certain circles. Don't get me wrong, Led Zep ruled the stage in it's day. I think The Who were a better all around band and also made solid records all the way up until their drummer died. One might say the Stones or Beatles.

I think Rush is the world's greatest band but I'm biased. Undeniably one of the best drummers, bass player of all times and the one of the most underrated guitarists of all time. Lee, Lifeson and Peart songwriting team has very few equals who have churned out so much consistantly well written material in the history of rock music.

I'd like to say that Led Zep was the World's Greatest Electric Blues bands of all time. Took blues to it's greatest level or extent.

So I've pissed a few people off. Bite Me!

Jimmy Page featured in Guitar World? Maybe they'll finally offer an EVH lesson or some Metallica tabs... or some ads with Zack Wild endorsing sweatbands and tuning peg grease. Beam me up!

Man...that's wrong! White doesn't even belong in the same pages of a magazine with Jimmie, let alone in a photo shoot.

New, so-called metal/rock...sucks!!!!

Jack White is a hell of a guitarist who is doing a good job of keeping the dirty blues alive. Is he as good as Page (in his prime)? No way. Does he create great music? Yes. Plus you have to acknowlege the fact this guy writes and produces his own music. Dead Leaves and the Dirty Ground--- that intro has a Working Man-esque characteristic to it (for all you Rush fans out there), and the last time I checked, trying to imitate Rush was a good thing.

Jack white is nowhere near Jimmy Page in his prime, and will not be EVER near page in his prime. Or his worst. That is a short-sighted statement that shows musical complete musical Illiteracy. They dont even belong on the same continent. Go learn something for god sake before you infect someone with that retarded notion.

Page, THE original guitar hero has FALLEN when he appeared onstage and in video with Puff daddy for that retarded Kashmir ripoff. He should do time in purgatory for that one. UGH what a travesty.

If you read my statement closer, you will notice that I agree with you that Jack White isn't as good as Page, however I do think he is more credible than a great majority of guitarists that are out there (Page doing White Summer on that Zep dvd is fucking crazy!). Pick up any White Stripes album and tell me Im wrong. Open up your mind and expand your horizons.

I have heard White stripes, and My horizons narrowed.

Even recently I just watched a bootleg of his solo on Google Video, and it was god awful. Good God man, you need to listen to better players. Yes he's better than most on that KIND of music, (I give him credit for the duo thing, Loretta Lynn, etc.) but WHO doesent produce and write music these days of easily accesses home studios?
They were lucky to get enough exposure on one catchy tune. Dont expect them to play stadiums any time soon. They do make good dorm posters!

Dirty Blues?!! Buhawahahahaaa Oh man, that's a riot That's not blues, thats desparation and fear the DAT will break onstage!!!!

Truly, that guy cannot be compared to some of the bands discussed on this site. Have a listen to Stevie Ray Vaughn, Lightning Hopkins, Ry Coder, Robert Cray, Robert Johnson, Buddy Guy, BB King, to get some real blues knowledge before it's too late!

Jack White sucks... and Jimmy Page obviously has no clue who's carrying the torch after Led Zeppelin anymore, otherwise he'd be sharing the cover with MIKAEL FROM OPETH.

SRV, Robert Johnson, BB, Buddy are all great blues musicians thats a given, but Im willing to bet you spout off knowlege that was perhaps googled, instead of an acquired knowlege of some of the musicians themselves. Dirty blues, no I didnt stutter I stand by my words I think this guy can hold his own and plays with alot of blusey hooks and attitude thats lacking in music today. You dont have to convey an image when the attidue of the music speaks, something blues musicians are known for. Just because the music doesent leave you with the feeling to kill or burn something, doesnt mean it isnt good. To each their own, ay? You cant obviously base the appeal of the music on 'one catchy tune' cause clearly if you weren't ignorant you would know that their catalog is more diverse than Seven Nation Army. And I could give a flying fuck if the Stripes do not play stadium tours anytime in the near future (I did catch them at the Fox Theater in good ol Saint Louis. Which if those of you who have never seen a show there, its worth the trip), because if that were the case then apparently Winger is god-like in your eyes. Anyways have fun listenting to the same repetitive sounding bands based solely because you want to come off metal. I would hate to be you

Of course, it doesn't make up for Jack White, he's a hack.

I sometimes buy Guitar World, and even with my limited collection there are several Led Zeppelin special issues. And I have several "unique interviews" with Page, most of which are in fact pretty boring. They guy does not make an exciting interview, and rarely tells anything that he hasn't said a million times before. A "special Stairwat lesson"? Already have one of those, and at least two separata transcriptions of that song. I mean, there's plenty of interesting songs in the Zeppelin catalogue, this one's been dealt with so many times before. They're just rehashin the same old shit over and over again.

This is nothing but playing it safe. The same stories over and over again. There'll probably be a Korn special issue too, and then a Nirvana one also featuring ta "special Enter Sandman" lesson.
