JUDAS PRIEST's ROB HALFORD To Guest On New QUEENSRŸCHE Album? - Nov. 22, 2005
JUDAS PRIEST frontman Rob Halford is strongly rumored to have been tapped to play the role of "Dr. X" on QUEENSRŸCHE's sequel to their platinum 1988 concept album, "Operation: Mindcrime", tentatively titled "Operation: Mindcrime II".

Although there has been no official announcement on the matter, a posting on QUEENSRŸCHE's official web site (dated Nov. 19) reads, "The band is confirming the singer who plays Dr. X by the end of next week. I think you'll be surprised, he is VERY well known and respected."

As previously reported, QUEENSRŸCHE drummer Scott Rockenfield and guitarist Michael Wilton recorded their parts for "Operation: Mindcrime II" in August at Synergy Studios in Redmond, WA. Michael Stone cut guitars in a studio in a "secret location" in the Bay Area. Singer Geoff Tate is recording vocals now, and will be joined by guest vocalist Pamela Moore and bassist Eddie Jackson on December 1. The band should be in mix mode by December 9 and finished with the entire recording process by December 22.

QUEENSRŸCHE have set a March 14, 2006 release date for the new CD. The band have tapped Reiner Design Concepts — the art direction company that did all the artwork for "Operation: Mindcrime" — to work on their upcoming album. Production has already begun and the group expect artwork by the end of the year.

QUEENSRŸCHE's follow-up to 2003's "Tribe" will be released via the group's new label, Rhino Entertainment. "Bootleg"-quality live recordings of two tracks slated to appear on the new CD — "Hostage" and "I'm American" — are available for download at Queensryche.com.

Now for the comedy portion of our program:

This article keeps using the word "tapped". Heh heh heh I betcha ol' Halford tapped him some Geoff Tate in the process!

Seriously- two great singers on the same album. Two thumbs up.
Maybe there IS hope for QR to start rockin' again!

COMMENT | Yes, there is hope!

It BETTER be an awesome CD.
It doesn't have to sound like a clone of the first "Operation: Mindcrime".
Just kick ass and have alot of the old 'RYCHE elements like the great guitar riffs, Great guitar solos, Tight rhythm section, Songs with awesome hooks and choruses, Geoff Tate better be singing his ass off and screaming like banshee when the song calls for it.

I haven't been too happy with the last 3 or 4 CD's QUEENSRYCHE has put out. They were just ok.
But, Their debut album up until "Empire" were total classics.
They were one of the best bands around.

I saw them open for JUDAS PRIEST back in July and I thought they were great live.
So, They still have it.
Now, They just need to prove they can still write classic songs like they used to be able to do.

to hear what this album sounds like, I hope that it does the original justice, but given that they haven't released anything worth a second listen in 10 years, I'm not holding my breath.

I live not that far from Redmond. Do you think Halford will be down there anytime soon? I guess the guys from queensryche go to the guitar center right by my house all the time but I've never seen them.

This whole MindCrime II is tantamount to a reunion tour and is obviously only being done to get back in the press and try and make some dollars. Halford's involvement sounds intriguing but it's obviously a marketing angle.

Reunite permanently with DeGarmo instead of an old album theme, update the sound a little and write some kick-ass songs, throw out an album and slowly rebuild the following. They would regain the respect they once had. Its not rocket science and I have no idea what's holding them back.

However, I'll probably pick up OM II out of curiousity and I'm sure that's what they are counting on.

Kidnap Chris and make him work on a new album? He wanted out. They released a couple of crappy albums with him too. It's not like he was behind everything they wrote.Though I agree I would like to see him back.

This will suck without DeGarmo.

Ok, fuck it, I'll let the cat out of the bag. According to Chris's bro, Brian, Chris left because Tate is gay and kept hitting on him. Believe it or not, its the truth.

I have no respect for this guy after he shot his mouth off and insulted his fans. The reason I bring it up is because Halford is total metal and Geoff has stated he hates that so why bring in Rob?

Fuckin' jerk off...

Well, a few years ago, Halford was working with Trent Reznor and was saying that metal's dead, and he found his way back around to release some excellent albums. Perhaps there is hope for Geoff Tate and QR.
