Report: LENNY KRAVITZ In Talks To Play JIMI HENDRIX In Film

Roger Friedman of FOXNews.com is reporting that Lenny Kravitz is in talks to play Jimi Hendrix in a biopic of the most famous guitarist in rock history. Sources tell Friedman that Kravitz has secured the dramatic rights to Hendrix’s music through his estate, and that his plan is to make his acting debut with the independent film. Lee Daniels, who directed the forthcoming "Shadowboxer" and produced "Monster’s Ball", is said to be the producer/director involved. Kravitz is a natural to play Hendrix, from his look to his musical ability. And he may have the acting gene since his mother, the late Roxie Roker, was a star of "The Jeffersons" on TV in the 1970s. I had read that Andre 3000 was tapped to play Hendrix, but that the whole project was held up because they couldn't secure the music rights from the estate. Andre would be a better choice than Kravitz, I think. Kravitz is too close to the Hendrix legacy to be portraying the man. I wouldn't be able to shake from my head, "that's Lenny Kravitz up there." Maybe they could do a good makeup job on him, tho.

to be remotely convincing and he's a righty. He does have the swagger for the period. So pulling off the chops is the issue for the most part if they venture into performance segments. Otherwise playing a legend is never going to satisfy everyone. Good luck living up the "god" status.

Can anyone really pull off the role of Hendrix? I'm struggling to think of one person. A few years ago, there was talk of a movie about Stevie Ray Vaughan, starring Brad Pitt as the man himself, but I guess it fell by the wayside.

In the 80s, they were going to get Phil Lynott to play Hendrix in a film. Sadly, Phil Lynott died in 1986 and the idea was scrapped. They should have killed this idea permanently. Lenny Kravitz is a fucking joke.

Yeah, Will Smith!! Then this Hendrix flick can be the "feel-good hit of the summer that will have you singing out loud and dancing in the aisles!"
Seriously- regardless of who it stars, this will be yet another lame Hollywood formula music movie that will have to hit all the sympathetic notes for maximum pathos:
SEE an early life event affect the budding musician!
SEE the musician hone his craft and ride right to the top!
SEE the musician look around and struggle, wondering if that's all there is (optional mental breakdown scene)!
SEE the musician meet a sad, early end!
Hollywood should simply be closed down- they haven't had an original idea since "The Blair Witch Project" (and that wasn't even spawned in Hollywood). The public is sick of sequels, re-makes of classic TV shows or movies, and watered-down reality bios.
I'll wait for the Keith Moon bio with Mike Meyers- at least Roger Daltrey's behind that so it seems more legit. Of course, by the time Hollywood is done with the story, booze-swilling, hotel-trashing Moon will be sipping milk and flying paper airplanes.

Just give Gary Oldman (no, not Gary COLEMAN, although there's an interesting idea) a ring. Shit, the guy can pretty much play ANYTHING. I didn't even know it was him in Hannibal until I read the credits. Plus, he did a really convincing Sid Vicious.
Seriously though, if you're going to make a movie about the godfather of the electric guitar, you've got to do it right, or not do it at all. There's been enough people over the years fucking with the man's legacy, and the last thing it needs is to be brutally fist-fucked by the Hollywood machine in the name of a few quick bucks.

Doug Pinnick from King's X is who should do it. One, he looks more like Hendrix than anybody. Two, he's a lefty (bass player but he can play guitar). Three, he can fucking sing. King's X covered Hendrix's Manic Depression on the Dogman album.

actually, whoever above said Denzel Washington....that WOULD be a pretty fuckin' good idea i must admit. always liked his roles in stuff like The Bone Collector, The Siege. he made a more than convincing badass in Training Day, something i didn't think he was capable of with the other type of roles like the other couple i mentioned, but holy shit he was awesome in Training Day. i think seeing him try to be him would be fuckin' sweet.
