SLIPKNOT Frontman Escapes with 'Star Wars' - Dec. 2, 2005
StarWars.com recently conducted an interview with SLIPKNOT frontman Corey Taylor. A couple of excerpts from the chat follow:

"My first 'Star Wars' memory took place in a drive-in. There was a double feature of 'Smokey and the Bandit' and 'A New Hope', so my first heroes were Darth Vader and Burt Reynolds. I loved 'Star Wars'."

"One of my fondest memories was trying to tell kids at school that there were three stories before 'Episode IV' and nobody believed me. Now I walk a little taller because I knew."

"Growing up I was very poor, so movies were escapism for me, and 'Star Wars' was the ultimate escape. I played with my friends' 'Star Wars' toys as much as I could. The only 'Star Wars' toy I had before I could buy them myself was the 12" C-3PO. I loved it until the sheen wore off it. I then pretended it was a statue in a jungle somewhere. I never dressed up for Halloween, but when we played 'Star Wars' — the original LARP game — I would get into fights with my friends wanting to be either Darth Vader or Han Solo. Sometimes I ended up as Artoo, which sucked."

"Being a comic geek, I try to get my hands on as much 'Star Wars' stuff as possible. I still have some loose figures from the original run and some of the comics in fair condition. I love collecting the old stuff because it lets me remember how much fun it was at the time, being a 'Star Wars' fan and a kid. They were our movies. Some parents dug them, but they were mainly for us."

Comics as in Star Wars Expanded Universe ("EU")? Expanded Universe sucks, canon all the way for me. OK, the Thrawn-Trilogy wasn't too bad (but not that great either) and was the only non-conon thing I ever came in contact with.

As for "The 'knot": they suck as much as the Star Wars EU, but the Corey ending up as Artoo part was funny. I guess Joey Jordison always ended up as a Jawa.

Utini.

Wrong, on the first screenings of "Star Wars" (A New Hope) the "Episode IV" part was missing on top of the opening crawl. It was re-inserted after the huge sucess of the first part of the original trilogy. And no, there won't be a third trilogy post Return Of The Jedi. Everything that was planned for a third trilogy was tightened and ended up in ROTJ.

And yes, Episode III ruled. Ian McDiarmid \m/

The guy looking for CLutch albums everyone you talk to will have a differant opinion. I like Transnational Speedway League, Pitchforks and Lost Needles, and the latest one of new material Robot Hives/Exodus the best. Some in the middle didn't do it for me. If you dig Clutch....unlock the Kyuss vault. Get anything by Kyuss. If you haven't heard them yet I am envious because you have so much great music to hear for the first time. Enjoy.

Ermm...there was no book. I have no idea where you got that from. There are many rumours around the internet, some of which say he wrote 15 scripts but then dumped 6, some say he wrote one script, but then split it into 3, but I have never heard of a book. Sure, there are probably books around now written on behalf of GL and you can buy the scripts as well, but it was film first and foremost.

Perhaps this is what you're thinking of?

"The Expanded Universe officially began with Alan Dean Foster's 1978 Star Wars spin-off novel, Splinter of the Mind's Eye.

It should be noted that although George Lucas's name is on the cover of the original Star Wars novel, Alan Dean Foster actually wrote it. He was given a copy of the working script, and a tour of the production. Most of the actual description was from the mind of Foster. It could be said that this was the unofficial start of the Expanded Universe."

Good 'ol Alan Dean Foster...back in the day, he was the king of movie novelizations. I believe he's done the novelization for "Alien," The Thing," "The Black Hole," all the big sci-fi or fantasy movies from the late 70s to the mid-80s.

It is true...when "A New Hope" originally came out in 1977, it was simply called "Star Wars." It wasn't until "The Empire Strikes Back" was green-lit and going to be a reality that the title was changed to "Star Wars-Episode IV: A New Hope." The title scrawl was appropriately changed at this time, so that "EPISODE IV: A NEW HOPE" appeared at the top.

The Phantom Menace = total shit (except for Darth Maul)
Attack of the Clones = way better than TPM, but as a standalone movie, only slightly better than average
Revenge of the Sith = pretty good, but still nowhere near as good as A New Hope or Empire Strikes Back
A New Hope = awesome
Empire Strikes Back = Lucas's masterpiece
Return of the Jedi = awesome until the Ewoks show up, then it's crap
