OPETH: BBC Session Recordings To Surface On 'Ghost Reveries' Special Re-Release - Dec. 4, 2005
Sweden's OPETH visited the legendary BBC studios in Maida Vale, London, U.K. to record a couple of songs scheduled to be aired on BBC Radio 1 sometime soon. The songs will also be included on the planned special release of "Ghost Reveries". The tracks recorded were as follows: "The Grand Conjuration", "When" and "Soldier of Fortune" (DEEP PURPLE cover).

OPETH's new album, "Ghost Reveries", is available now on Roadrunner Records. The band utilized the services of STRAPPING YOUNG LAD drummer Gene Hoglan during the bulk of this summer's Sounds of the Underground tour after the group's regular skinsman, Martin Lopez, went back to Sweden for treatment of a rare blood disorder he's had for most of his life. The group have since enlisted Martin Axenrot (BLOODBATH, WITCHERY, NIFELHEIM) to take over Lopez' duties until he's fully recovered.

Because that's what Roadrunner does...they rerelease every single record with extra tracks, likely in a digipak. I'm a huge Opeth fan, but I won't buy this...fuck Roadrunner.

Because its Roadrunner Record's money grabbing policy of re-releasing albums like this with special editions months after everyone has bought the original (and charted it at #56 on the charts I might add). Its a lame tactic that Opeth probably has little to do with... remember that Roadrunner did this for Cradle of Filth too. Typical stuff really, download the BBC1 sessions - dont support bullshit re-releases like this with your hard earned dollars.

I went to see Opeth last week in Nottingham and they blew me away, I bought my gig ticket and the merchandise, I've contributed. I'll be damned if I buy the album again. At least give me the choice on release day.

Okay, what have we learnt here today, kiddies?

Well, even in this age of P2P and Torrents, fans of real music are ready, willing and able to support a great band like Opeth by going out and buying their awesome new album, and catching them in concert, should the opportunity present itself.

However, contrary to the belief of Roadrunner's A&R department, we are NOT made of money. Fuck your re-releases and all your other money grubbing bullshit. Oh, goddamn, I just love the Christmas season...

well it certainly looks like Roadrunner is going to find out we're not going to buy their shit twice. I mean, lets face it...we all love Opeth, but their audience isn't going to grow exponentially. I would say that at least 80% of the people in this world who would be willing to buy Ghost Reveries have probably already bought Ghost Reveries. And since 100% of those people seem to be calling bullshit on this, who's going to buy their re-release?

The sad thing is, Opeth is kinda the one who gets fucked here. They've got all these no-doubt awesome live tracks that their real audience is never going to hear.

I just decided that anything that comes out from roadrunner I will burn, then I'll listen to that copy until the new special edition comes out. I apologize to the bands that I love for burning their music but your labels greedy and I don't support that. So when these new editions are coming out, then I'll buy the cd. and again. !!!!!!!!!FUCK ROADRUNNER RECORDS!!!!!! So roadrunner you might as well apologize to Cradle Of Filth in advance because I'll be burning their cd when its released, and when you decide to put out the special edition a few months later then I'll buy it.

Wow, with so much anger about the planned re-release of an album that we all have it's nice to know that a screen name can bring so much joy.

I whole heartedly agree with Crowned_Unholy, the record companies want to stop downloaders? They're going the wrong way 'about it. Record companies need to re-think their ethics if they want to stop downloading. I've always been a buyer but I won't fall for cynical tricks to part me from my hard earned cash. There are too many albums for me to buy the first time, I won't bleed for the same one twice, no matter how good the band are. Trying to sell the album twice will not make Opeth more successful, it's preaching to the converted. Roadrunner at one point did release multiple versions, I always went for the digi-paks which cost more but for the extra content, no matter how poor it was but the policy of releasing an album and then re-releasing it is not on and should be stopped. Loyal buyers like me and other posters here will only take so much.

Once again, fuck you Roadrunner.

Enough is enough with the fucking re-releases!! I agree with Crowned_Unholy in his post above; from now on I'm going to burn every Roadrunner release first and listen to that until the special edition comes out. That way those grubby money-hungry assholes at Roadrunner Records don't get my money twice ever again.

Note to Roadrunner: How about you dimwits put out TWO different versions of the album on the same damn day it's released?! Put out the normal edition, and then a special edition that costs more but has a bunch of bonuses. That way the people who want to pay for the extra material can but don't have to get ripped off by buying the inferior normal version beforehand. Makes sense, doesn't it? Good...now start doing it. It's just not good business to piss off your customers over and over again.

Looking at my cd's earlier and checking the Roadrunner stuff, I realise that I did fall for this once. I have two copies of Fear Factory's "Obsolete" album. Why? Simply because of "Cars". Then, the dumb fuck that I am I bought the single for "Cars". Duh! Fair enough, this was 7 years ago but I did fall for it nevertheless.

Sorry, Roadrunner, as much as I admire your roster, there will be countless suckers out there that you are financially pumelling just to squeeze that bit extra. So, for the 3rd time, fuck you Roadrunner.

PS - Anyone want to buy a spare copy of "Obsolete", slightly soiled?

I figure if I'm gonna download those other tracks, I might as well send him a 12-pack of Steinlager and a note saying "Thanks for the awesome tuneage, but your label sucks DICK!!" After all, nobody (not even the compulsive downloaders) wants to see their favourite artists starving and unable to make music, but record company cash-grabs like this present quite a quandry.

Ok, I already thought about this. WHY NOT PUT WHATEVER BONUSES ON THE FOLLOWING ALBUM INSTEAD????? For instance, on the last ((FF)) album Transgression, they included LIVE version of CYBERWASTE, a song that appeared on the previous album Archetype.

So here's a recap:

1- Release an album
2- Record extra bonuses, videos, interviews, etc.
3- Release a new album: include bonus from the last session.
4- Repeat steps 2 and 3.

There, RRR, I got your solution! Now you can contact me personally and send a cheque to my attention.

They could make somewhat of an EP out of the bonuses. For instance, when Anthrax were touring for Stomp 442, they released the "Nothing Australasian Tour EP", which had some really cool shit. Sure, once again, it's the money factor, but an EP is a lot more financially viable than a whole album.

I didn't buy this record in the first place because, well, I heard and I was really pretty disappointed. Deliverance was OK, and this was just an extension of that record (add keyboards). Frankly, from what I've heard about Roadrunner over the years, this is no surprise. Labels do stuff like this. It's no reason to get super angry. It's just three songs. Download them, borrow them from your sucker friend, or.. gasp.. don't ever hear them! Who cares? Opeth is a great band, but you've already heard two of those songs before (and probably own them) and anyone who saw the Damnation tour heard Soldier of Fortune live. So why do you need to own that stuff?

If you have record companies there is a solution: quit consuming music or get it in some other way. People will still buy this re-release. You guys bitching about it on the blabbermouth boards isn't going to change anything. Roadrunner already got your money, they don't give a shit what you do now. Yay capitalism!

I was surprised when "Ghost Reveries" came out that no limited edition was available. Especially for a new and famous band that just signed on Craprunner.

Since then I was dead sure RR would re-release that record at the first occasion and it didn't miss.

What I'm gonna is bloodsimple : I'm not gonna buy this new version and will download it on the net.

This kind of business is just shitty as hell and will only encourage people to download records instead of buying them and support the bands they like.

Conclusion : Opeth rules (and everybody knows that...)
RR sucks (and everybody should realize it by now)
