METALLICA Guitarist Attends RUSSELL YOUNG Art Exhibition: Photos Available
- Dec. 5, 2005
METALLICA guitarist Kirk Hammett attended the West Coast opening of works by artist Russell Young, entitled "Fame, Shame and the Realm of Possibility" at Minotti Los Angeles on November 30, 2005 in Los Angeles, California. Some of the pieces were auctioned by Christie's to benefit The Art of Elysium, a charity that encourages artists to dedicate their time and talent to at risk and ill children. As previously reported, METALLICA were due to begin rehearsals for their ninth studio album sometime last week, according to an interview with drummer Lars Ulrich in Danish newspaper B.T.. Ulrich, a native of Denmark, flew back to the San Francisco area from New York on Tuesday (November 29), after which the band were to commence working. Ulrich said about the project, "I wouldn't say that I have a plan or an idea of where we're headed, but to kick start METALLICA once again makes me happy like a kid."
Ulrich was in New York with his girlfriend, actress Connie Nielsen, to celebrate the 15th birthday of Nielsen's son, Sebastian. Connie Nielsen is also Danish and Ulrich said that has helped their relationship, explaining, "We have the language, the culture, the sarcasm and the irony in common. We have...yeah, the whole package, because she understands me."
Nielsen can be currently seen in "The Ice Harvest" with John Cusack and Billy Bob Thornton.
Ulrich has been married twice, most recently to Skylar Ulrich, with whom he has two young sons. He told B.T. he's in no hurry to get hitched again: "First I have to get divorced, so let's take everything nice and slow, OK? Very, very slow."

They better get going with the c.d. If it has a crappy ping* as a snare drum i'll kill Ulrich. Then I'll replace him as drummer for the band.

not. Metallica are over, they didn't respect their own ideals and when you do that you start living in contradiction and your life sucks. In the case of Metallica that's also reflected in their music.

What's wrong with all of you? I mean...listen to yourself! What exactly did Kirk Hammett do to you that you write this bullshit about him and his wife? Does he owe anything to you or what??? Oh my god, it's so UN-metal to visit an art exhibition, what a sell-out, right...? You're ridiculous.
Or maybe it's just that you know that your lives are worthless and that nobody gives a shit about you...?
I can't imagine what on earth can motivate you to wait all day on Blabbermouth, pushing the refresh button and waiting for an news piece on Metallica so you can finally say "METALLICA SUCKS!"
Yeah, Metallica rulez and I'm happy their fans are mostly good people, not the pieces of shit like you guys :-)

When Cliff died, so did any chance of Metallica ever writing another great album. They will continue on much as the Rolling stones have. Touring, playing their old classic material, and putting out new material that is worthless, and with absolutely no relevance to the current metal or heavy music scene. They have had dollar signs in their eyes ever since the recording of the black album, when they brought in Bob rock and Michael Kamen to streamline their sound and make it more litenable for the masses. Yes they were absolutely pioneers. Sadly now they are spoiled millionaires trying to relive the past, and failing miserably. I believe that this album will be better than ST anus., but that is not saying very much at all. I am sure another 4 million sheep will believe all of the crap Lars says on the website while they are creating their newest turd. Chris scrader's comments are accurate. But that doesn't changed the fact that they became greedy rockstars, and that the last 3 albums have been completely subpar. If you took the best songs from load/reload, and made them into 1 album, you still would have the worst Metallica album by far. St., anus was a valiant attempt, but in the end it was nothing but the sound of millionaires slumming. The silly "therapy" lyrics were terrible, and the new found "songwriting by Committee" simply will not work. Yes, they can experiment and do what they want. Not because they are so great, but simply because they have the money to do whatever they want. They can sit in the studio for 2 years and create whatever recording they want and hand it to the record company who will release it becaus e they no it will be a cash cow for them. Nevermind the fact that if any other band on their label handed them the master tape for St. anus, they would have handed it back and told them to go and edit out 30%,fix the snare drum and try again........Enough for now

I must agree with some of these posts, Metallica still kicks ass. Yes, I say "kicks ass" despite the fact that they released Load/ReLoad (albums that I think are better than popular belief) and St. Anger. The thing that kinda gets me is how people would rather have "Master of Puppets REDUX!" than to have something new and interesting. Did they sell out? No, but their sound changed. And I would think that Metallica, the band that became a super success because of fans, would admit to the change. Yet they still sound heavy and play their classic stuff live. With the exception of missing fills by Lars, the music sounds good live (and Metallica's reputation as a great live act is a fact.)
I also hate reading posts of people suggesting that Cliff's tragic accident changed them. First off, no one knows what the music would've been like if Cliff Burton were still alive. Second, knowing a little about his background and his interest for other types of music (such as classical music), who's to say that Cliff Burton would be opposed to the bluesy rock that Metallica toyed with in Load/ReLoad? Again, we can't say for sure. Third, its been stated a number of times that James and Lars composed majority of material for the all the albums except for St. Anger, which was their first TRUE group effort. In other words, James and Lars have stated, in so many words, that they controlled what was played, by who, and when (read old interviews, watch "SKOM", their "Behind the Music" episode.)
If you don't like Metallica now, then don't like them. But if they or decide to look at an art gallery, then I think you can reserve your "METALLICA SUX!" comments for something really news worthy (or more important for that matter.)
