RUSH Guitarist: 'It's Time For A New Record' - Dec. 5, 2005
RUSH guitarist Alex Lifeson told the Detroit radio station WRIF 101.1 FM that the band are preparing to begin work on a new CD. "We're going to go in the studio early next year and start writing," he said. "It's time for a new record, time to move forward...we're going to hopefully finish the record by the summer, and think about hitting the road around this time next year."

As previously reported, RUSH will be the featured guests on the nationally syndicated radio show "Rockline" airing Wednesday, December 14. The live show begins at 8:30 p.m. PT / 11:30 p.m. ET, and fans are encouraged to call in with questions during the program at (800) 344-ROCK (7625). To find a station near you, check out www.rocklineradio.com.

RUSH's "R30: 30th Anniversary World Tour" DVD was released on November 22 via Rounder in the United States and Anthem in Canada; Sanctuary Visual Entertainment issued it November 28 in Europe. It was recorded September 24, 2004 at Festhalle in Frankfurt, Germany.

In addition to featuring 22 tracks from the show, "R30: 30th Anniversary World Tour" comes with a second disc, which collects a multitude of rarely seen bits from the RUSH archives, including studio footage from 1978, a soundcheck from 1980, and a recent rendition of "Closer to the Heart" with BARENAKED LADIES' Ed Robertson. The is also available as a deluxe edition, which includes two audio CDs of the Frankfurt concert, as well as various goodies, such as limited edition Dunlop guitar pick and a backstage pass.

Since "2112." Their output since then just doesn't do it for me.

dude there are so many albums like 2112 that came out after it. Stop just name-dropping albums you know. I stopped liking rush when they got into their heavy keyboards phase, but pretty much everything (and I mean EVERYTHING) up to Moving Pictures is AWESOME

I for one would love to hear some keys on the new album. I loved Power Windows and appreciated a lot of HYF. Vapor Trails wasn't really my cup of tea, and of course the production just made it worse. As for solos, Alex's textural abilities are highly underrated. I don't know if there's a solo that I've ever heard that matches the feeling of the one in Between the Wheels or even Limelight.

They're not gonna use keyboards a lot like they did in the 80's. They haven't done that for a while. I love those albums but it's just not gonna happen. And they're not gonna go back to Moving Pictures or 2112. Besides, I think they've done stuff of equal or even better quality since those (and in between).

Why is the production so crappy on Vapor Trails????

Between the Wheels is one of their best songs.

News that makes my day. Yee Haw Boy Howdy!

A new Rush record, their first in 4 years if you don't count Feedback which was pretty cool. Also very cool that this time next year they might be gearing up for a tour which of course will be awesome. If I'm not dead I'll be there as always. They've toured the world twice so the new record should have an international feel. Vapor Trails was great, aggressive record for them and the new one should be as abstract as any of their releases. In the interim we can look forward to redux DVDs of their older videos which should also be great since, well, of course, it's Rush, the greatest band in the land.

The guy who produced "Vapor Trails" was most notable before then for producing Marilyn Manson and Hole.

...What do you like about RUSH??

NEIL PEART!!

.... What about Alex Lifeson & Geddy Lee?

WHOOO!!???

That made me laugh. That clip was pretty hilarious. The Deluxe version of R30 is worth every penny if you're a diehard RUSH fan. The extras are probably some of the best I've seen a band give to their fans. I love the old Don Kirchner's Rock Concert clips. Man, how WEIRD does it look seeing Neil Peart behind the drums while Geddy is singing those "Zeppelin-esque" lyrics for "In The Mood"? It's a good thing he eventually became the main lyrical contributor to RUSH.

The Canadian Rock N Roll hall of fame induction clip was a really great addition to the extras as well as the older interviews from 1979 and 1980.

Oh and a NEW RUSH album being made?? I'm very happy to hear about this. With the way they talked about how long it took to make "Vapor Trails" (a really good album despite the fact that the production isn't what most RUSH fans are accustomed to. The songs are very well done and come on, it's as personal as you'll see these guys get with what happened in Neil Pearts private life) I didn't know if they'd do another studio album for a long while.

Can't wait for them to tour in NYC again. I saw them at Radio City last summer and that was one of the best shows I'd seen. Much better than when I saw them in 1994 at MSG for the "Counterparts" tour.
