AEROSMITH Guitarist Says Commercials Have Become OK For Rock Bands - Dec. 12, 2005
Launch Radio Networks reports: AEROSMITH has signed on for another ad campaign, this one for Target stores. Group members Steven Tyler and Joe Perry have previously appeared in an ad for the Gap, while AEROSMITH has leased its songs for commercial use by DaimlerChrysler and General Motors. While rockers once avoided such deals, Perry told Launch that he thinks that stigma is long gone. "It's a new age. Kids are used to it, and they don't look at it the way we used to," he explained. "It's a great way to hear new music — I mean, I hear new stuff all the time on the, on TV 'cause of commercials — and some good old stuff, too."

Target is selling an exclusive expanded edition of AEROSMITH's new album, "Rockin' The Joint (Live At The Hard Rock Hotel Las Vegas)".

Perry is nominated for a Grammy award for Best Rock Instrumental Performance for the track "Mercy" from his self-titled solo album, which came out earlier this year.

AEROSMITH next performs tomorrow (Tuesday, December 13) in Milwaukee.

yeah it's alright if you don't mind selling out your songs...i'm normally one to avoid using the term "sell outs," but w/ultra-commercialized bands like aerosmith, u2, etc, it goes w/o saying...how overblown bands like this are even respected as artists anymore is beyond me...they're entertainers and performers, but definitely not artists

I say it's only OK if the artist truly believes in the product being marketed. For example, I would love to have my music featured in an Apple commercial, because their computers are an integral part of how I make my music!

But Gap? Target? Fuck that shit. Aerosmith's place in rock history is cemented regardless of the stupid shit they are doing now, though.

If I may paraphrase the late, great Bill Hicks, "Anyone who does this sort of shit is off the artistic roll-call FOREVER! It's one thing if you're just starting out and you need the money, but why the fuck does Jay Leno NEED to be in a Doritos commercial?" Man, fuck this. As much as I love Steinlager, I'd have to turn down the offer of a commercial... it's not my place to influence anybody else's beer-drinking decisions. Besides, if everyone else packs away the shit beer, that's more Steinlager for yours truly...

Mmm... Beer... c(_)

a guy named Joe Perry who said he regretted ever writing "Walk this way" because it became an AM radio hit, yes, clearly these are different times Joe but you know what, you don't need the money that bad and remembering who you used to be isn't such a bad thing. Joe's latest solo record is not good, it makes it clear why he needs Steven in his life, still one of the coolest guys and bands on the planet though.

This is the same guy who said something like "So there we are onstage at Super Bowl half-time with Britney Spears and we got away with it, people still respected us."

Clearly, Joe only talks to fat suburban housewives and mental patients.

there was once this band called THE DOORS, and they too were contacted by the fine peopleat BUICK to license LIGHT MY FIRE.
the other 3 guys agreed and "sold" the rights. when jim found out, he got real pissed and forced the removal of the ad.

they should license "dream on" for this commercial where a dinasaur band tries to write a good song.

is if Tyler and Perry get back on the coke and heroin so they'll get creative and write some good songs like they did 20+ years ago. "

You mean like Draw The Line and Done With Mirrors? Yeah - that's REALLY what they need to do. Assclown.

so they can do whatever the fuck they want with them!!!! I don't mind!!! Metallica doesn't owe me shit, Aersomith either so who cares. I have to admit that hearing Zep's "R&R" on the Cadillac comercials is kind of weird, but at least a new generation can discover them. A cousin of mine didn't even know that part of that Eminem song (?) with Dream On it was originally by Aerosmith...
I slapped him silly...
just for listening to Eminem.

Joe Perry is the 2nd greatest riff-master of all time. If you don't know who the 1st is without thinking about it, you don't deserve to listen to rock music. I am pretty irritated by Aerosmith's rampant commercialism, but damned if those guys don't still kick the most ass onstage and occasionally still on their records.
