According to a posting at The Internet Nirvana Fan Club, a brand new special edition magazine, "Nirvana & The Story of Grunge", went on sale on Dec. 14 in the U.K. and next week overseas. I don't hear "grunge" as I don't think they sounded anything like the typical grunge bands. They sound a lot like metal due to the fact that they had a lot of guitar solos in their songs and a little like really heavy punk when they played faster songs.

but alice in chains rocks more. i also think soundgarden and pearl jam rock. why are the foo fighters mentioned? i know dave grohl was in nirvana but they were never part of the whole "grunge" thing. foo fighters rock as well.

I came of age during this whole "grunge" thing. I am now 25 and find myself still constantly listening to the Seattle bands, and their peers from the period. It may not be metal, but I am sure glad I had this when I was 15. I cannot imagien being a teen today with what they play on MTV and the radio. Anyway, point is MELVINS are my favorite band pretty much ever. I think it is a shame they don't recieve more praise. They stuck it out, survived a major label deal, kept every shred of their integrity, and still are around today...20 years later making incredible music. Long live KING BUZZO, DALE CROVER, and whoever happens to fill the bass slot.

Nirvana was ok. AIC and Soundgarden were the best bands out of that bunch. The records labels drove the "seattle" sound into the ground by signing any band from that city, regardless of talent. But I guess most people probably would agree, could Courtney just go away already? Please? Or at the very least make you own damn music and money.

Goddamn right. Grunge was a term invented to describe bands who sounded like the Melvins. Most Grunge bands were not even grunge. They were just grungy looking and hard rock. I am not slamming their music. I enjoy Alice In Chains, Soundgarden and a few others, but not really grunge. Earth and... maybe Nirvana's pre Nevermind albums. I don't like Nirvana by the way. Kurt Cobain praised alot of killer bands and helped some out, but I don't like his music and i'm not sad he is gone.

that does not exist to me. i like to use the term that best describes them, alternative. nirvana, aic, soundgarden, pearl jam and so forth are bands with good songs. apart from constantly listening to metallica and gnr, these bands were a huge part of my life during high school. they kicked ass for those of us who didnt wanna listen to crap like poison, winger, warrant, and all the rest of that hair metal garbage. im glad they got rid of that whole scene. alot of the alternative bands were influenced by bands like zeppelin, aerosmith, kiss, pink floyd and so forth. you cant go wrong with that. of course that scene had alot of crap as well. every musical movement does. even though aic, nirvana, and soundgarden arent around anymore, their music has withstood the test of time. great bands, great songs.

The formula is: 1-new type of rock is "discovered" possibly involving a geographical area (Seattle for example), 2-a couple of bands spearhead the trend, 3-record execs rush out and sign anyone who sounds similar regardless of talent. It happened with "hair" metal and grunge. Now it's happening to the newer bands; rap-metal, emo, screamo, etc. Get used to it kiddies 'cause pretty soon you'll be yesterday's news and the younger kids will be making fun of your bands.

Okay, so I like grunge, and others like grunge. But all you bastards who don't like this genre of music can just shut the fuck up. We all have our own opinoins here but there are better ways of expressing them instead of being all.. "Oh grunge fucking sucks" and blah blah blah. Hey at least it's not rap and you can understand what Nirvana is saying..when they aren't screaming. But the screaming isn't even as bad as "Nigga I'm gonna bust a cap in that ho's ass because she owes me a 20" I mean come the fuck on. How is this classified as music? Why do we have to live through this era of senseless bullshit? I miss the early 90's dammit. Now, i'm not saying that you all like rap and shit because obviously you don't according to your favorite bands lists. But what I'm saying is grunge isn't even half as bad as the shit today, so if you want to bash..bash something that makes sense to bash.
