LIFE OF AGONY Split With EPIC RECORDS - Dec. 16, 2005
Reunited New York metallers LIFE OF AGONY have parted ways with Epic Records after releasing only one album through the label, informed sources have revealed to BLABBERMOUTH.NET.

Released in June 2005, "Broken Valley" is LIFE OF AGONY's first collection of new material since "Soul Searching Sun", which was issued in 1997. The group's previous release was a live album and DVD, entitled "River Runs Again: Live 2003". The two-disc set was recorded during the group's sold-out reunion shows at Irving Plaza in New York City on January 3-4, 2003 and was issued through SPV Records worldwide.

"Broken Valley" has sold 27,000 copies in the United States so far, according to Nielsen SoundScan.

They need to get on an indie label and go back to their roots.

LOA need's to make music that sounds similar to the "River Runs Red", "Ugly" CD's and stop with the Stone Temple Pilots inspired FM radio rock.
"Broken Valley" was much better than "Soul Searching Sun" which I still can't listen to all the way through. But, "Broken Valley" is far cry from the style of music that made me become a fan of LOA.

If they make another CD and don't break up.
They NEED to have Josh Silver produce it. He produced "RRR" and that is without a doubt thier strongest sounding CD and alot of it has to do with the production. He also did some of the earlier demos which kick ass.

I've seen this band twice....first time they got booed off the stage. Afterwards the Sevendust guys come out and inform us that we'd just booed a 'legend' off the stage. And I say..."LEGEND?"

Second time, noone paid attention to them.

Does ANYONE want to explain to me how these guys are legends....their music isn't appealing at all, they can barely play their instruments.

But the new album sucked, and their live show is a joke. Not to mention that half the time Keith obviously doesn't even want to be there.

Now that they are dropped hopefully they will break up and quit dragging their once good name through the mud.

Pathetic.

darthsader16, i have also been a subject of torture by having to stand through these shitty fucks on two occasions. first was at a mudvayne concert at henry fonda theater. they were booed their whole performance, got beers thrown. and the singer even spit and punched someone in the front of the crowd. the second time was at gigantour at verizon wireless. My god did they sucked even more than the first time.. i recall hearing the singer say something along the lines of "please go by our new cd, its not doin too well" he sounded all depressed and sang a horrible set... it was quite funny.

it just angers me that this band gets to play at such good shows, and they totally suck. i dont care what anyone says in their favor. they are on my top 10 list of bands that shouldnt be allowed to make money.

and it sucks that we all have to sit through them at shows when we could be listening to some music that we actually enjoy.

really did let me down. I had never heard of these guys but I received a free play copy from work and when i put it on i was expecting some hard monstrous music sadly i was very let down. I think that if a band is going to have a name which sounds "metal" then they had better live up to the expectations. nothing pisses me off more than that example"Death Cab for Cutie" absolutely blows but that name is very metal sounding.

It was hilarious when they got booed off the stage in Dallas. The singer, wearing his Bill Cosby sweater stormed off saying something like "Come to fucking Brooklyn and see how fast you get your asses kicked" or something along those lines, i wasnt really listening.

I'm glad Epic dropped them. The last album Broken Valley was just horrible. No heaviness, the songs all sounded alike, and Keith's vocals are just so lame now. What happened to his deep voice? He's gotten higher-pitched with every record LOA have put out, and on Broken Valley it doesn't even sound like the same guy who sang River Runs Red!

I think it's safe to say that Life of Agony doesn't have any good ideas anymore and should really just call it quits.

Mudvayne fans throwing jabs at LOA...like Killshredder said "Kids these days..."

That being said, this was inevitable...the album underperformed...the label didn't support a second single/video from it...and it died.

Too bad...(and for the record, "River Runs Red" IS a classic...)

I never said Mudvayne was the best band in the world, or even legends....

That said.......I also think Life of Agony is horrible and there must be a HUGE something that i'm missing, along with a lot of other people...and apparently only 22,000 some odd people actually got what they were doing..I mean, when you go see a band and you see the most generic, boring, simple songs over again that remind you of a group of friends that jam in a basement once a year and aren't very creative.

Not good.

they might be legends in their own mind..or own neighborhood maybe. They sold out in New York, but that wouldn't happen anywhere else.

I bought RRR and Ugly when they came out and they were good..nothing mind-blowing. 'Broken Valley' is just a STP rip which is just mediocre. Sounds like Keith is a jackass.

The only way you could possibly understand LOA is if you bought a copy of River Runs Red when you were 17 years old. There was a dark mistique to it that only a pissed-off teenager would be able to relate to. If you didn't "get it," then you probably never will. I love LOA. Their music got me through some rough times, but I'm not holding my breath for another RRR.

I think you have to be old enough to have gone to concerts back in the early-mid '90's to appreciate what LOA was/is. If you didn't see them back then, you probably won't really dig them now. Kids now don't really take the time to dig deep into a band the way they used to. If they don't like a band right off the bat, it's back to fucking MySpace to search for some other run-of-the-mill act. Metal kids these days are just worthless and have absolutely no attention span. That's why I kick the shit out of them every chance I get.

I've owned River Runs Red and Ugly (Is this their two most revered Albums??), and quite prankly, I'm not too impressed by them. And I got them when I was MORE HEAVILY INTO METAL when I was 15 after seeing a classmate wear a River Runs Red T-Shirt in class. I was actually more impressed listening to Iced Earth's Night of the Stormrider(1991) than LOA's "biggest" albums. There's definitely waaaayy better album choices. I live in NY yet I've never payed attention to this band. Yet I have travelled to Canada, Mexico, Nevada, California to see Therion, Iced Earth, Cradle of Filth, etc. I agree with el_jefe..."NOTHING MIND-BLOWING"

i'm only 20, yet i can still appreciate river runs red for what it is, even if i hadn't heard it until 10 years after it was released. the album has some of the heaviest production/sounds you will ever hear. i saw them live 2 years ago and joey z still blows away alot of guitarists today. any of you asshats that claim they're "untalented" clearly have no sense as to what good songwriting is, as well as what musicianship is. keith may be a fuck, but there are very few vocalists (at least as of 2 years ago) that sing w/ the passion that he does. river runs red won't hit you too hard at first...but each following listen it gets better and better.

Their Gigantour in Montreal performance was awesome.
The sound quality they had was a lot better than some bands (sadly for whoever those bands were). For instance, I like Symphony-X and LOVE LOVE LOVE Nevermore, BUT their sound wasn't great. Goddamn Bell Centre is an accoustic failure.

You have no clue what real music is. You are force fed all of the bullshit that you listen to. You live in a fast food music generation. So, continue to watch your MTV. Continue to download and steal from the artists you supposedly support. Live out your days listening to watered down, cookie cutter acts that you will forget about in 6 months.

Or, you could open your mind and actually read the lyrics of a Life of Agony record and find out what the hell you've been missing.

There is so much reality in there it's ridiculous. Maybe the music will actually challenge you to face your own fears. You just might learn something about yourself. Or are you just afraid?

I'm sure that's the case. So, continue to hide behind your computers. Post what you will. The fact is that there is a cult audience for this band that will never die. Their music is timeless. You either get it or you don't.

To the haters, don't you think it's about time you all woke the fuck up and stop acting like sheep? Just curious.

Granted, it took me a little time to get into and appreciate Life Of Agony's style back then, but their first two releases are indeed outstanding albums and I've seen them tear shit up on the legendary 1995 Dynamo festival in front of 120.000 people - they were a pretty unique metal/hardcore crossover act back then.

As much as LOA seem to have lost "it" nowadays, it's still pathetic to see those bedwetting Mudvayne (what the fuck!) fans come out of the woodwork and question the achievements and status of this band. Learn to respect your elders, do some repetitive lessons in metal history and until then shut the fuck up you ignorant underage retards.

If you weren't into the band back in the early 90's, then you won't get that 'legend' type status now.. esp if you didn't live in NYC back then.
Broken Valley is a very strong album. I am glad they split from Epic though, even though there is some solid promotion with them.. i'd much rather see them on their own without Sony breathing down their necks and putting anti-ripping software on their cd that installs itself onto your computer without you knowing and fucking your computer up. Epic is pathetic.

I agree the new album was not good and I am/was a hardcore LOA fan. I bought RRR after seeing "Throug and Through" on the Headbangers Ball back in the day and was hooked. I even like Soul Searching Sun but this new album blows. Maybe its because my musical tastes have changed a lot over the years since Soul Searching but still their new album was a lame attempt to get some cash and a watered down version of LOA. I saw them on their reunion tour and they were fucking amazing and played a flawless set and the crowd was sold out and loving every minute of it. Fast forward to a year later and they are opening for Mudvayne, playing like shit, and getting booed. Even their old songs sounded dated compared to the bands on that tour. The pathetic thing is that they kept saying their new album was going to be heavy and return to the RRR sound but I guess that got side tracked. Now I just wish they had just did the reunion tour and called it a day. Maybe they will release another album but it better be fucking heavy and very much LOA or they are done.

The new album, Broken Valley, is a great album i don't care what they say above! lyrical and strucually a great ROCK album. They have gone back to when music was cool to listen to like in the 90's! Today everything is an effen gimmick. You have people now trying to rip leads throughout the entire song, trying to act like GNR! FUCK PIRATE ROCK! All that major record companies are looking for are, is the next Nirvana. The next break through, a quick buck. Then turn around and shit them out! Indie Labels are the way to go. They care more about there artists than these major labels do! LOA still effen rocks!
