AVENGED SEVENFOLD Not A Religious Band

Launch Radio Networks reports: With the holidays here and the so-called "War On Christmas" in the news, religion is always a hot topic at this time of year. AVENGED SEVENFOLD includes a number of religious references in its music, even taking its name from a passage in the Bible. But frontman M. Shadows told Launch that the band doesn't have any messages about God, or the Devil for that matter. "Anyone that read the lyrics and really knew anything about us, they would know we're not promoting either," he said. "That's one thing about this band that I love is that we never really shove any kind of, like, political or religious beliefs on people. We just, the music's there to entertain and maybe thought-provoking on both sides, but we don't try to, like, really shove anything down anyone's throat. There's too many bands that do that nowadays, I think."
The band's name comes from a passage in the Genesis story of Cain and Abel, which reads, "But the Lord said to him, 'Therefore whoever slayeth Cain, vengeance shall be taken on him sevenfold.'"
All five members of the California-based group claim to have been kicked out of Catholic school.
The next single from AVENGED SEVENFOLD's 2005 album, "City Of Evil", is the opening track, "Beast and the Harlot". The album has sold 334,000 copies in the U.S. since its release last June.
AVENGED SEVENFOLD will continue its "Cities Of Evil" headlining tour early in 2006, with a new round of shows beginning on January 19 in Tucson, Arizona and extending into late February.

......in fact, I read an interview with them where they were dissing MetalCore (they were pretty funny if I remember correctly)
I saw them live and they werent half bad, just kinda young and inexperienced maybe......I'm not a big fan, but I do give them credit for at least trying to take a more "classic Metal" approach (and I'll take them over most of the cookie-monster/screamo/corpse paint horseshit that passes for Metal these days)....
Oh yeah, and hot girls can be found at their shows - not just greasy, pimple-faced loosers in black clothes that just crawled out of their parents basement!

so forth that sell substanial amount of cds that dont have
to look like Rod Stewart's boyfriends and try to pass off
as the next Iron Maiden. As far as metalcore
3 IOB has more of a classical metal sound than these glam

I'll be reasonable. This band would be okay if they just got rid of that douche bag singer. That guy sings like he is constipated. His screams sounded half-decent but when he sings it is just so terrible and forced it makes me want to puke. Get a new singer for christ sakes. One that is more interested in being a good singer than putting on his eyeliner the right way.

Avenged Sevenfold are a bunch of spoiled rich kids who wanted to rebel. For the most part, they can play their instruments well, but their singer is way too whiny and relies on image way too much. Their songs have similar structures and often times don't offer anything new.
Are they horrible? No, not really. But are they good? Not a chance. Just an average at best band that's currently enjoying their 15 minutes of fame. They won't last and that's good, so stop the hate and let them bask in the sun for a little while.
I did find it pretty funny, though, how M. Shadows (real name? probably not) is talking about other bands doing too much preaching about stuff yet he lists SYSTEM OF A DOWN's MEZMERIZE as one of his favorite albums of '05. So even if he doesn't like them preaching to him, he still loves the music. Imagine if he actually agreed with them on their politics.
Yet another proof that SOAD owns. Period.

I'm not the biggest fan of them. But I give them there due. They are good musicians. The vocals really lack on the new cd. There first cd and the last one the vocals were much more metal. But wow the new album they just wuss out on the vocals. Not sure what they are thinking. Otherwise there music isn't that bad for what it is.

SOAD's the best band in the world right now. Hands down. They're insanely unique in their sound and manage to offer something new and something different every time out, yet still managing to outsell 99.9% of all your "hardcore" (read: horrible vocals, no variation, boring riffs, no imagination) bands combined. 16 million copies of SOAD's CDs have been moved worldwide, since 1998.
It's understandble if you don't like them, that's fine. I don't bother with those who simply don't enjoy SOAD's music -- to each their own. But I will say that everytime that there's a SOAD thread on Blabbermouth, you have an absurd amount of losers crawing out of their holes to badmouth them and call them all the names in the book. Mostly, it's jealousy. Plain and simple. Then there are those racist pricks who spew hate just for the sake of spewing hate. They're usually the mullet-wearing redneck lowlives living in their ex-wife's uncle's trailer. You know, the blind patriots with no brain.
Either way, I'm glad that you at least found my thoughts on Avenged Sevenfold worthwhile.

What happened to us on 9/11/01 was very unfortunate and certainly something that's very emotional to us. It's something that will never be forgotten and something that makes even grown men cry. We all felt the impact of those horrendous actions.
But when you think about what happened, when you analyze it and take away the emotional part of it, only then can you start to understand WHY it happened. By simply seeing what caused those suicide bombers to do what they did, you are already one step ahead of the game. Make no mistake, when Serj Tankian made the remarks he did in his Understanding Oil piece of writing on the 13th, he never once sympathized with the terrorists or justified their actions in any way, shape, or form.
The problem lies in his timing -- because he wrote and posted his thoughts so quickly after attacks, he didn't give still very emotional and patriotic Americans enough time to think beyond the tragedies. If there's one thing I'm sure he'd like to change is his timing.
To be sure, he meant what he said. In fact, what he said in Understanding Oil has more factual information packed in it than all of the press releases from George W. Bush's time spent occupying The White House combined.
Most people can't get past this and thus all the hatred. It's immature, childish, and very much stupid, as well. Unfortunately, that's the chance you have to be able to want to take when writing controversial political pieces.
If you were offended by Tankian's post 9/11 comments, all I ask is that you read them once again and try to get past the emotional side of his piece. Try to understand what he's trying to say without prejudging everything right away. It's the only way you'll ever understand it.
If you're happy being a hater, then so be it. I'll likely never change your mind.
And like I mentioned earlier, if their newer material doesn't strike your fancy, then that's fine. I really don't mind that, because I know that for every old fan they lose, they'll be gaining a new one and it won't affect them in the long run whatsoever. Especially not financially. Having sold 16 million copies in an internet age, when over half of music "fans" don't even buy the music but rather download it for free, they won't be worrying about their next meals because you decided you'll no longer listen to their music.

As far as my opinion on avenged sevenfold go, I was completley put off by the look of em thought 'trashy screamy crap' but heard a good track or two and I love the new album, but after hearing a couple of older tracks, well I wouldn't be suprised if he had coughed up his vocal chords after that lot, and personally can't stand it. His singing now, still dunno if i like it, but much more listenable now. and live, I've heard lots of good things and bad things. But sod the politics, 'city of evil' is awesome.

1. Any band that sells more than 10 albums is NOT METAL.
2. Any band that sells 10 albums or less but the album does not sound like it was recorded in a fucking tin can is NOT METAL.
3. A lead singer who actually has vocal cords that function and hold some sort of pitch (and this does not include Avenged 7fold's singer BTW, who does, in fact, suck much less when atonal) is inferior to one whose gruntings sound like a retarded, wounded bear with explosive diarrhea.
4. Bands that anyone else has heard of were only good before anyone else heard of them.
5. Having a hairstyle that one can wear to a job interview at someplace that pays more than $5.50/hr is NOT METAL.
6. Wearing anything other than fucked-up jeans and a black t-shirt with Pantera/Slayer/Mayhem/Metallica logo on the front (or alternately, the standard all-black "Cradle of Filth" goth uniform with facepaint, fishnet gloves, Roman collar, etc) is NOT METAL.
7. No piercings/tattoos/other scarification or self-mutilation? NOT METAL
8. Like a form of music other than metal for its musicianship/lyrics/politics/other attribute of listenability? You must be GAY. And NOT METAL
9. Badmouth people who shop at Hot Topic as being 'mallcore' and NOT METAL even though everyone knows Hot Topic is where you go to buy all your Slayer/Lamb of God/Cephalic Carnage T-shirts and skull-themed jewelry.

I have their new album, It's not anything to write home about. Also I agree with ComingOfApophis on the things he learned. For instance, I knew a guy who loved Disturbed when they came out. Then, one day, he heard it being played by some else in his dorm and could not listen to them anymore. The worst part is, that was his explanation of why. There was someone I use to work with who had the same opinion, if a band became popular then he could not listen anymore. He said the music is personal and that he dint want people who he did not consider metal or whatever, listening to it.
Yes metal is about rebellion but if you don't listen to something because someone else does, then you are still being controlled by them.

Me personally, I have hair that's nearly down to my ass - and I wear it down every single day when I go to my corporate job that pays me nearly six figures. I also own 8 guitars and I have been playing for twenty years (95% METAL BTW). My other gig is as a professional musician/composer for a nationally aired program on television. I'm also a vet of the music biz in Hollywood and I have more than a couple of platinum records to my credit.

It seems like a lot of people on this board base their opinions of bands on their fashion sense. I heard this band on XM three months ago and bought the CD. I still haven't seen a video or a picture outside what is in the CD. I don't watch MTV so I had no idea they were on TRL. I have nothing to go off of but the music. I agree that the vox are a little gay on the choruses, but overall the music is sick, and hearing solos in every song makes me hopeful that people are starting to get it again.
Oh yea, America rules. Don't like it? Pack up your bag of dicks and move.

M.Shadows IS a douche bag, I would know, i've met him. The rest of them are pretty cool guys. Their new album is decent, "Wicked End" takes the whole album for me. Considering he didnt work on his new sing as much as he should have and he smokes too damn much, his vocals arent horrible. The guitars make the album tolerable. Sounding the Seventh trumpet is a great album. But their song writing REALLY needs work. Beast and the Harlot is a good example. Mostly the lyric "sailors and navigators too..". Why is that really necessary? It always bothered me, but whatever.
Mallcore, the term coined by internet metal nerds who have nothing better to do but bitch.
