ACE FREHLEY: Performing With KISS Again 'Could Be Fun'
- Dec. 24, 2005
|
|
|
Original KISS guitarist Ace Frehley is currently working on a solo album for a tentative spring release, he revealed during a guest appearance last night (Dec. 23) on the "Merry KISSmass Special" with Eddie Trunk on New York's Q104.3 FM. Around 15 songs are being recorded for the effort (with about 10 expected to make the final cut), which will be made available through Ace's soon-to-be-relaunched web site, AceFrehley.com, as well as via proper label channels (Frehley is "talking" to several different record companies at the moment). Although he offered no details, Frehley indicated that he would definitely be back on the road sometime in the spring, "either in a small club or Madison Square Garden — hopefully Madison Square Garden," Ace said. Frehley — who says he has been sober for two and a half years now — will be accompanied by a brand-new band once he hits the road, but he offered no specifics as to who will make up his backing group for any of the upcoming shows. Asked if there was a scenario under which he could envision himself ever returning to the stage as part of KISS (alongside Gene Simmons and Paul Stanley), Ace said, "I think it could be fun, if it was the right situation." During his appearance on the "Merry KISSmass Special", Frehley also premiered a recent rough-mix recording of a semi-acoustic version of the ROLLING STONES classic "2,000 Man", which originally appeared on KISS' "Dynasty" album (1979).
As previously reported, Frehley's former record label, Megaforce Records, will be issuing a compilation titled album, entitled "Greatest Hits Live", on January 24, 2006. According to a press release, this CD "represents some of the best work from legendary KISS guitarist Ace Frehley during the period after his highly publicized departure from one of the greatest rock bands of all time." As with the previous Megaforce Ace Frehley releases "12 Picks" (1996) and "Loaded Deck" (1997), Ace himself had nothing to do with putting this package together.

For my sins I'm a KISS fan. (I know, not very Blabbermouth).
What does annoy me is Ace going on about NOTHING. He should keep his rap shut until he has something concrete to deliver. ACE has done some cool stuff in the past and I really like him, but he should get a deal, organise something specific, get the product pressed and then turn up to promote it. Otherwise, keep away from the mic.

There is a difference between being an "influence" and being "good".
I have been playing for years, Ace a and Mick Mars have been influences of mine, but looking back and hearing how sloppy they are It makes me realize that they aren't or ever were very good.
They do however have some cool tunes. I respect them for what they've done.
Fame does not = talent.

Dimebag Darrell had an Ace Frehley tattoo, so Ace obviously influenced some great players. I don't EVER want to hear "2000 Man" again, wtf talk about stale. Oh, and KISS was charging $1000 per person for the meet and greet. Fuck that shit.

Ace is still my fav KISS member. And yes he influenced a couple generations of guitarist like Page,Hendrix,Clapton,,etc, did in the 70s,sure those guys are not as good as guitarist today, but think about the time when these guys ruled the stage.. Lesson is never forget where we came from and respect those who started this....

The things that nearly tore the band apart around 1979 are basically tearing the band apart now, ie, over emphasis on merchandising, friction among band numbers, etc. Just my opinion of course! Doesn't take away from KISS' incredible musical accomplishments (yeaah, I'm a fan). Again, my opinion.

i cant deny that. and as for him being sloppy???
listen to Jimi hendrix. the man was sloppy as hell. but he had a knack for taking a wrong note and bending it into something that sounded relevant. thats where the influence comes in. The "sloppy" guitarists aways end up being the bigger influence then the technically great guitarists. i.e. - jeff beck, jimi hendrix, ace frehley

lol i was just complaning about that in the Nirvana thread haha good to see someone that is actually stable on this site everyone is so fucking ego like that kiss fan who just snapped on some guy having to "stamp his approval of good" well frankly id only go see kiss because they were my mothers first band and id like to see them before they crash!!
Fuck are they ever bad musicians! This kiss fan backing up that old washed up band. It kinda makes me laugh how many people like some really one sided music and people call us metal heads one sided?! Damn if death metal is done right it can have jazz/classical/latina or what ever style it may be!
Metal is very versatile when it comes to the greats.. but there are many bands giving the new breed bad rep's. Some metal can be very one sided but i try and avoid that stuff! I actualy think jazz music is much harder then blazing threw some mixolidian mode or what ever you like! But thats just me every persons hands have a tiny differnt approach to the fret board..

and did influence a world of metal musicians for generations to come. So did Peter Criss even though HE really sucked, but did it matter? - No!
Ace has a signature style and vibe that make him stand out in any crowd, which is far more than most more technically advanced players does. I love it and the people who only put skill in front of feel can just go fuck themselves and get into sports instead where speed and result really matters. I hope though that this time around Ace will keep the make up and costume on, because underneath it all he's really an ugly motherfucker. Frehley's Comet really did put me off back in 87, I hope he can deliver an album in the same class as the first solo album in 78 - that one rocks even today and is without a doubt among the 5 best albums KISS ever released.
ACE FREHLEY FOREVER

Can't wait to hear Paul's solo album, but besides that I pray to god that KISS just retire all together or just die.
KISS meant the world to me as a kid and shaped my perception of hard rock for all enternity, but please stop ruin everything you built up!

i hope this time what ace says is for real.ace isnt the most technical nor peter, but sloppy naw, spontanious is more like it.maybe they arent as good as the once were but yea,at one time back in the day NO ONE could touch these guys, they can say that at one time THEY DID RULE THE ROCK WORLD,not many can say they were at the top,but they got there on there own terms.not alot of bands that i can think of are as good or better than when they were younger,i aint complaing though,i always go see kiss ,there arent many of these legendary bands around anymore,to me they are one of the last, besides ace and kiss helped lay down the foundation for many bands, and to me thats not gonna fly if your sloppy.

That there are way, way, WAY too many people playing guitar these days? I for one would love there to be more singers out there. But on the other hand, fuck it, I don't need the competition. Still, where are all the bass players and drummers when you need them?
Mmm... Beer... c(_)
