MASTODON Set Tentative Title For New Album - Dec. 24, 2005
According to the new issue of Resound magazine (the free magazine/mail-order catalog of Relapse Records), MASTODON have set "Blood Mountain" as the tentative title of the follow-up to 2004's "Leviathan", due next summer via Warner Bros.

"We want the whole thing to flow together as one big piece of music, where the end of one song links up with the beginning of the next one," MASTODON drummer Brann Dailor recently told Revolver magazine. "We want the whole experience to be like movements in a symphony."

MASTODON started writing new riffs shortly after completing "Leviathan" and came up with a batch of ideas during various tours. But it was during last summer's Ozzfest that they made their greatest creative progress. "You can't really control when the ideas come," said Dailor. "I always have a dictaphone handy, and [singer] Brent [Hines] and [guitarist] Bill [Kelliher] bring acoustic guitars everywhere, and if they come up with something messing around, we'll record it. We always keep our minds open."

By the time MASTODON started rehearsals in mid-October, they had around 10 songs to evaluate and explore. While it's too early to know exactly what the band's next album will sound like, Dailor says it will likely be more progressive and thrashier. "We've been listening to a lot of newer KING CRIMSON and getting off on that," he explained. "But also, we toured with SLAYER and listened to them every night for three months, and that's gotta have some sort of effect."

These guys are pretty fuckin' talented and i'm sure whatever they do won't dissapoint. If they have been listening to King Crimson and Slayer, then the writing for the new one should be very cool! Radical!

this will be the dissapointment of 2006 i bet u.next summer is the same time when lamb of god, shadows fall, and killswitch engage.all are tentatively planning to relase new albums as well.u throw those 3 in with machine head's new one and possibly new trivium i see thses guys getting looked over.my money is on lamb of god and killswitch engage releasing top notch metal albums.mastodon will get trumped in sales and in quality.leviathon came out the same day as ahses of the wake and hmmm out of those 2 wats the best album??.case closed i will be glad when this band disappears cause they are trully overrated.

Hey, I've got a big bridge in San Francisco for sale, cheap too.

Idiot.
You list off 3 of the worste bands out there today, Trivium, Killswitch, and Lamb of God, and have the audacity to call Mastodon overated. Machine Head hasn't released anything relevent in years...

Mastodon is one of the finest metal bands out there today. Unlike much of the Hot Topic Mall Metal Bands that people think are great, cough - Killswitch, Lamb of God - this band is just on a higher level of "one better" if you will.

Machine Head is metal core? Burn My Eyes is ten times better than anything mastodon ever did or will do, end of story. They are the most over-rated band of the last two years. Just because Rolling Stone salivates over them doesn't make them good. As for shadows fall and lamb of god, I wouldn't say they are great but they are far more talented than Mastodon. Just because they have some odd-meter songs and time signatures doesn't excuse the bad guitar playing and Neil Fallon (who is awesome) wannabe vocals. There is nothing distinct or interesting about the bass or drumming either. Opeth destroys these losers.

So, what some people are saying is that Machine Head is better than Mastodon. Come on, people. You can not compare the two. I remeber when Burn My Eyes came out and was blown away. I remember listening to Leviathan and being swept off my feet. Completely two different bands, so can not really compare the two. I have been listening to metal for almost 2 decades (damn, I am old) and do have some knowledge about metal and too be honest, (I am going on a rant here) most of the music that comes out today pretty much sucks and it is hard to find an excellent album that you can play over and over again. Then put it away for some time, come back to it, and recall all the lyrics (as in Master of Puppets)...now if anyone can name an album like that, that has come out in the past couple of years...please tell me. Because, I can not find one. Back to the original thought...two different bands, two different time periods it is like comparing Attila the Hun to Ganghis Khan.

And as for Lamb of God, Ashes is the worst of the 4 albums. So, Leviathan is a better album. Burn the Priest's album is better than Ashes. Lamb of God is on their ride down and will have to pull something out of their butt to create something better than Palaces. Mastodon is still on their high.
