LACUNA COIL: 'Karmacode' Is Ready
- Dec. 24, 2005
|
|
Italy's LACUNA COIL have confirmed on their official web site that the recording, mixing, and mastering of their forthcoming album, "Karmacode", is complete. The CD is tentatively scheduled for release in early April via Century Media Records. The highly anticipated follow-up to 2002's "Comalies" was co-produced once again by Waldemar Sorychta and was mixed by Ronald Prent ( RAMMSTEIN, H.I.M., IRON MAIDEN). Songtitles set to appear on the CD include "What I See", "Fragile", "In Visible Light", "Fragments of Faith", "Within Me" and "Our Truth". In a recent interview with Decibel magazine, LACUNA COIL frontwoman Cristina Scabbia had the following to say about the upcoming CD: "The album is a trip through different spiritualities, not specific religions. We wanted to analyze how religion and spirituality can in our day coexist. Look at the title — we mix something generally spiritual like 'karma' with 'code,' which is modern and recent concept. The word is modern and spiritual at once. "The music is the same and we did not change or become a different kind of band. It's an evolution, and it's precise. We spent three years on the road, visiting new territories, like the U.S., so we took different American influences and we mixed them with our European sound. We take the power of American bands and blend it with the romanticism and passion from Europe, so it's an interesting combination." In other news, Pollstar.com is currently listing a LACUNA COIL show with SEVENDUST on February 26, 2006 at the House of Blues in West Hollywood, California. It is not presently clear if LACUNA COIL will play any additional dates with SEVENDUST.

By there music for the music ??????
Get the back catalogue of THE GATHERING especially when the band was on Century Media Records, and you will have some idea, why this type of traditional / melodic metal, appeals to mainstream metal fans and the underground fans alike.
This band maybe more relevant, more than ever, especially since THE Gathering lost alot of their traditional metal side for the tripped - out mellow rock style of Souviners / Sleepy Buildings.

Mostly what is referred to as Gothic Metal these days is not really very gothic at all. The early 90s were a booming time for Goth Rock bands, and inevitably some of this began to work into the metal scene. Paradise Lost started this subgenre in tradtional metal when it when they released their album "Gothic" in 1991 which used soprano vocals mixed with the death growls. By the mid to late 90s bands like The Gathering and The 3rd And The Mortal were experimenting extensively with the style.
Pioneers: Paradise Lost, THE GATHERING, Theater Of Tragedy, The 3rd And The Mortal.
Notable Bands: Trail Of Tears, After Forever, Tristania, Sirenia, Flowing Tears, Lacuna Coil, Rain Fell Within, Moonspell,

You people are pathetic.
This is far from what Metal is. Metal is stuff like Annihilator,Metallica,Anthrax,Exodus and Testament.
"No Women Aloud" was a joke, jee you people only believe what you see with your own two eyes.
Hmm but I did get what I want from you people(all the hate comments)

how the album will sound...
As the band has mentioned in some mags and on the internet, they had been influenced by the american productions.
Surely, a lot of people might now have the opinion that they're going to sound like Korn, Linkin Park etc., but I'm curious what the result will be.
But as I've already said it above: SAMPLES, PLEASE!!!!!! ;-)

First of all, who are you to say what 'metal is' or isn't? If nothing else, metal is about diversity. And personally, I'm tired of drinking beer until my vision blurs and trying to imagine Warrel Dane in a miniskirt and pumps because of the lack of chicks (no disrespect to the mighty Warrel, but he DOES have a slender, girlish frame). Also, it's about time the Italian government apologised for Kull.

The real metal bands ...
Metallica - Metal from 1982 - 1991, then became a alternative rock band.
Annihilator - Metal for 2 albums then a flirt with selling out, back to the roots, THEN on to the power / groove bandwagon back to the roots, back to a sell out record, back to the roots.
Anthrax - Power Metal since the demo - era and the first 2 Johnny Zazula / Megaforce Records releases, I have Spreading the Disease with some Neil Turbin songs, but then after that they sounded like a Metallica with a Journey singer, and kind of responsible for the nu-metal trend.
Exodus - Metal from the beginning in 1979 ( well they played hard rock originally) Untill Kirk Hammett took over, then a huge slow down sindrome / watering down process with Impact and Force of Habit...then part of the retro-thrash reunion trend, then Paul died, now they play modern metal.
Testament- Metal band all the way untill they went for the big sellout / payoff with the Ritual, that never happened, then went back to form.
So I guess thats whats good about bands like Lacuna Coil, they can weave in out of Black Sabbath and Led Zepplin terrorities all the way, because everyone forgot where the line of markeeting for metal ends and where that line for rock and roll begins.
The thing that was started in the doom field with Paradise Lost, caused a big new wave of traitional / melodic metal, because of how kick ass and mindblowing THE GATHERING'S " Nighttime Birds" is... a timeless and classic slab of traditional metal. So there will always be this sub-genre of melodic metal in the traditional metal genre
I am thankful of all the Metal Bands that stay on the Metal side, because if all these Gothic Metal bands wanted to they could just eliminate the heaviness and the distrotion and became another EVANSCENCE, and make 9 Million dollars right away.

thanks for the appreciation of two SFbay area bands.. exodus, testament
exodus never had any ever even remotely close to what anyone would mistake as "a singer"
much to my jealous chagrin, testament especially eric peterson are good friends and fans of lacuna coil... betcha didn't know that.... pick up comalies and see the "thanks to..." testament are there...
while christina is the star, she would have a hard time making it without the band, say as a solo artist... it's a band.
And... whatever this machismo tunnel-visioned idea of a purist concept that is supposedly "metal" is just your lame worthless opinion, devoid of any fact or relavance.
Christina and other great females have to run the extra mile simply because of their anatomy. Fuck I wish we could purge these type of people from the "metal" world so more chicks would feel welcome, i detest it that most shows have hardly any chicks.
It's because of douchey opinionated misogynist ignorant fuckbrains like you dude.

Is there really a sub-genre in tradtional metal called Wedding Dress Metal ...???
I know there is Gothic metal, Progressive Metal and Melodic Metal in the Traditional Metal fields.
But Wedding Dress Metal, did someone coin that term, or is it a type of slander / sterotype.
On the comment of THE GATHERING ...
Sure THE GATHERING started off with visions of Dimmu Borgir and Cradle of Filth or whatever they were trying to achieve, when they released those albums for the FOUNDATIONS2000 record label.
The Gathering are OK...??? No dude if you collect heavy metal, THE GATHERINGS NIGHTTIME BIRDS, should be at the top of every record collectors wantlist, if you were not smart enough to purchase it back then when it originally hit the market wayyyy back in 1997
Then came the Anneke - era where the whole band became METAL GODS and HEAVY METAL HEROS, to us metal maniacs where grew up listening to Power Metal and Worshipping Bob Muldowney's KICK ASS Monthly.
The Mandylion and The Nighttime Birds era is where the whole band brought the new singer to the world class level, and where the singer, brought out the best from metal axe master Rene Rutten, and the guitar axis of the band, and the rhythm section is take to the level where the band has there own sound and style.
The Gathering is just as metal, as Black Sabbath and The NWOBHM bands, so what !! if they chose NOT to recylce all the early Metal Blade and Roadrunner records riffs and create from within.
Sure the band eventaually developed into a tripped out rock style, I am even sure that they are now in the alternative rock markeeting demogrpahic.
There was this fanzine by the CEO of Century Media records, called Ill- literature and the fanzine only focused on the then current innovators and old heros of heavy metal. Fuck yeah Ill-Literature was fucking right all the way. Heavy Metal is just as Much as The Gathering and Emperor...
Oh the comment where Paradise Lost is a depche mode, junior????. Not in 1991 - 1994 Gothic/ Icon / Shades of God before the Dranconian Times -era.
Vintage Paradise Lost had a influence on the thrash band Deceased, circa Fearless Dead Machine and Supernatural Addiction -eras
I have been listening to for 27 years, the comment " the Gathering are OK" is the most strange and bizarre thing, I have ever heard or seen in Print...Unreal dude.
"Nighttime Birds" is album that every metal fan must own, no matter what genre you specialize in, as a fanatic / collector.

No way dude your not the only one in the world who is a King Diamond / Mercyful Fate addict / fanatic / maniac / true fan.
King Diamond was a huge fan of Rush during the demo -era and when Mercyful Fate was on Megaforce and Combat Records in the States
Mercyful Fate and the vintage Rush circa, the 1980 - 1984 eras, some how link to what THE GATHERING was doing on their Metal albums. Not the riffs or the arrangement patterns. Just the over all ability to write awesome headbanging riffs with tons of emotion.
Satan - Court in the Act, whoa ...still blows my mind how well Brian Ross can sing and those riffs were pretty razor sharp for a 1983 release.
Anyhow to all the Mercyful Fate / King Diamond maniacs...We should strart a petition to get the 1992 Zoser Mez " Vizier of Wasteland" CD REreleased with the 1991 demo tracks as bonus.
For those who never heard that Zoser Mez album it had alot in common with the pre - British Steel era Judas Priest.
To bad only 1000 LPs and 1000 CD's were pressed of that Zoser Mez LP.

Looking forward to the Karmacode release by Lacuna Coil.
