IRON MAIDEN: 'Death On The Road' Complete Track Listing Revealed - Dec. 27, 2005
The complete track listing has been revealed for IRON MAIDEN's highly anticipated DVD release, "Death on the Road", due in the U.K. on February 6, 2006 through EMI Records. This will initially be available as a limited-edition special digipack.

The DVD package contains the full performance of their "Dance of Death Tour" in December 2003. Filmed at the Westenfalenhalle Arena, Dortmund, the show has been personally edited by founder band member Steve Harris, to fully capture the magnificent stage production and to cut right to the heart and the electricity of the band's performance. Over a four-month period, Steve made thousands of edits, thus ensuring he was personally happy with every single shot included!

Says Steve Harris, "We realize that the fans have been made to wait a little longer than planned for the DVD to come out but as they know — we won't settle for anything but the best and the extra time and effort spent in the final production of this DVD should be apparent. I can safely say that when people see songs like 'Paschendale' and 'Dance of Death' their jaws will hit the floor as mine did when I saw the final product on my TV at home. With visuals like this and the show played in 5.1 on a decent system it's just like being in the front rows of the show."

To ensure top quality and to avoid any compromise in reproducing the very best possible sound and picture quality, the band have taken the unprecedented step of making the full concert available on two separate discs — one with full traditional stereo soundtrack and the other with specially mixed 5.1 sound by Kevin "Caveman" Shirley — which along with the special features disc makes three discs in all.

Says Harris, "I felt it important that this was done as we didn't want to be restricted. By having two seperate discs I was happy in knowing that neither picture nor sound quality would be compromised in any way. We are aware that many fans don't yet have access to 5.1 sound and still use stereo but if you put both sound beds on one disc with the concert a fair amount of visual quality can be lost due to the massive amount of information that needs storing. As this was quite a dark and theatrical show we refused to allow this to happen! However, so our fans aren't paying extra for a disc they may never use, we have arranged with EMI that the pricing will be the same as 'Rock in Rio' which was a 2-disc package. This way everyone gets the best possible quality show visually with the sound fully compatible for their system at no extra cost at all."

The special features disc contains an exclusive documentary directed by Matthew Amos, who also directed the band's award-winning "Early Days" documentary. It's an insight into the production of the "Dance of Death" album from its writing and recording through to the detail in what it takes to get a massive show like MAIDEN on the road.

Says manager Rod Smallwood, "The documentary is something quite special for the fans as it really is a very revealing portrait of how MAIDEN work together during recording, and it took me weeks to persuade them to let the cameras into the recording studio. Previously they'd never allowed any of this to be filmed but this time we decided to have a camera floating around to try and capture the MAIDEN recording process. A lot of it was filmed by Kevin Shirley and the band themselves. I think it's a great representation of the talent, effort and humour of a MAIDEN recording session. The documentary also covers what it takes to set up a major world tour and has various interviews with our Killer Krew and hopefully it will be as insightful and interesting as the well received 'Early Days' documentary footage which Matthew also directed.

"As usual, we have crammed as much as possible into the DVD with a host of extras including all of the promo videos from the album, background interviews with members of the production crew and fans during the tour, artwork, design sketches and photo galleries. Many hours of MAIDEN mayhem with a total running time of over three hours — and that's just the special features."

Some of you people are really silly. This dvd is meant for the show ie. the theatrics, stage presentation and so forth. Sure there are a few old trademark songs, but notice Steve mentions mainly the impact of viewing the newer songs as opposed to the older ones. It focuses on the main spectacle being 'Dance of Death.'

there are like 6 songs out of 16 which are played at every gig and are to be expected, can you imagine a maiden gig without HBTN? Doubtful

This setlist is actually quite varied otherwise

Be thankful they aren't like sabbath, who have changed roughly about 3 songs in their live rotation ever since ozzy rejoined, in fact this is like a dream theater gig by comparison to sabbath

So quit bitching. I hope Maiden release a live DVD a year, if not more. The more the merrier.
How come you can't tell there are 6 new songs? Didn't you buy Dance of Death? Didn't you listen to it? The dvd was recorded during the Dance of Death tour, didn't you go? I did and loved it. Btw how many "old" bands played SO MUCH NEW MATERIAL on their recent tours? NOT ONE. They all rely on the old stuff because they know the new one is subpar. Well NOT MAIDEN. They play shitloads of NEW stuff because they know it's KILLER and it will go down great with the crowd and THEY ARE RIGHT. Don't believe me? Just watch the dvd.

A show like Maiden's constantly changes from tour to tour, ever sicne Number of the beast in 1982 they have had a totally different live style , backdrop and setlist on each tour.

If you take metallica on every tour they play about threew new songs and then the older ones. Maiden have always championed their new material, even back in 1998 on 'virtual xi' it takes balls.

But more than this, it grants major value for money. Ok so it has 'run to the hills' and 'hallowed be thy name' on it. It also has 'paschendale', 'lord of the flies', 'journeyman'... It has a balance of everything Maiden.

I more than anyone would love to see a set-list that boasted no hits, but that's not the point, not all fans want to jetison the old classics for the sake of some rarer material.

Recently, also, the band have taken to touring ancient classics, early days tour featured stuff like 'where eagles dare', 'another life', 'remember tomorrow'... Sure it had run to the hills and hallowed in there too, but it had the rare stuff.

On analbum tour they want to play six or seven new tracks, after the classics they have around three songs at a maximum... On the old tours they have been doing they have about ten songs. If you want the ancient rare stuff only, then ignore the album tour and wait for the second early days one.

But I am disgusted that no one has made a comment on how they have pioneered a split package that contains stereo and 5:1 without loss of audio or visual quality. You're all too looking cool and kvlt knowing a couple of in-album tracks.

Seeing and hearing Maiden playing Paschendale and Journeyman live in 2003, standing second "row", center stage was an almost spiritual experience. Those two belong to their very best songs ever, 25 years into their career.

The only thing Maiden could do better nowadays is playing more obscure songs and less so-called fan favourites on tours featuring a new album IMO. Their idea of mixing up their album-tour cycles with kinda "retro"-tours (Ed Huntour, Give Me 'Ed, Eddie Rips Up The World Tour) is great though and the concept of releasing a live output to EVERY tour for the core fanbase is interesting, too. Imagine a live album/DVD featuring a 1986 Somewhere On Tour show!

So there's nothing wrong with a DVD documenting the 2000 BNW and the Dance Of Death tour - apart from the aforementioned similarities of the certain "fan favourites". Why Maiden didn't play songs like Children Of The Damned, The Prisoner, Revelations, Stranger In A Strange Land, Infinite Dreams, Afraid To Shoot Strangers or Man On The Edge (pretty realistic and not too obscure choices for a Maiden set) instead of the chosen vintage songs on Death On The Road is beyond me.

Anyway, can't wait for this DVD and the new Iron Maiden concept album in 2006!

And no, " 'tallica " lost it (the metal crown and many other essential things, too).
