GODSMACK Putting Finishing Touches On 'Killer' New Record

GODSMACK frontman Sully Erna recently spoke to MTV.com about the group's follow-up to 2003's "Faceless" CD, which has a working title of "Four". "The results are so amazing," he said of the album GODSMACK plan to release in late April. Although Erna had served as a co-producer on the band's three previous outings, for this one he rode solo in the producer chair. In about a month, he'll be finished with the final mix, at around the same time the album's first single will hit rock radio. "It's a killer record, and I'm really curious to see what the public's going to think of it," Erna said, noting that he feels the album is his band's first true attempt at sonic experimentation. "It's still GODSMACK — I don't think it's lost the integrity of what GODSMACK has built our career off. The toughness of the sound is still there. But we've expanded a little bit more. After 'Faceless', we started to spread our wings a bit and reintroduce guitar solos and stuff like that. The acoustic record [2004's 'The Other Side'] was a departure and it was very well received. It opened up a new audience for us — a lot more adults were coming to the shows, bringing their kids and having a glass of wine. That gave us a permission slip to take it to the next level. "It will perk people's eyebrows up again," he said of the new CD. "The first couple of records were kind of the same record, in a sense. They were sort of bordering that metal sound and then the third record had more rock mixed into it. [ 'The Other Side'] really softened up the sound. This one is more rock and roll, and some songs are very epic, in a TOOL [-ish] sense. Some songs are like old-school GODSMACK, like 'Bad Religion'. It's going to service the core fans and introduce some new music to those fans. It's also going to recruit a bigger and broader audience, because the songwriting has matured so much." Songtitles set to appear on the album include "Speak" (likely first single), "Livin' in Sin", "Shine Down" (which comes complete with "killer harmonica") and "Voodoo Too". Read more at MTV.com.

these guys did nothing but rip offf alice in chains and somehow became rich off of it.there songs are easy garbage any first year guitar player could play and it annoys me pople like this band so much.the success these guys have shouldve gone to sevendust or alice in chains actually.the bands from which these guys borrow a lot from.

I don't hear it...I don't hear the AIC rip off, just don't get it. I like these guys, saw them in Reading, PA. Great show, very energetic. Looking forward to the next release.

I don't think they sound anything like AIC. They have their own style which seems to be successful enough since they've been doing it and getting rich from it for 10+ years now. Get a life, if you don't like em don't listen. I've been a fan since the beginning and don't care who they sound like.

Even though I can't listen to Godsmack, I respect them for being a mainstream 'metal' band (damn, that was tough to say!) and for having a great drummer (Larkin - Wrathchild, SAZ), but they aren't very original and their records sound like shit.

I can never figure out why people come on here and bash bands they don't like. If I don't care for a band in a story on here I don't read it.
And the AIC/Godsmack comparison can stop any time. Yes godsmack were influenced by AIC big deal. Like it was stated before every band was influenced by someone. I personally think Godsmack is one of the better hard rock bands out there right now. Also one of the few who's Cds go platnum. So I think their fan base is just fine.
If you don't like them don't listen, don't comment. Just because you think they suck doesn't mean everybody does.

I liked Godsmack's first album but that's it. The rest do not appeal to me.
If I want a band that copies everyone else I will take Sheavy.
Alice In Chains ROCKED and so Staley died ODing. So did Hendrix.
Sebastian Bach is one of many singers that came after Plant who posssessed a higher range.

I don't and didn't necessarily agree with him, but Ozzy's contributions to heavy metal automatically exclude him from the "disgrace" category that you so willingly put him in.
I have "And Justice...", "Garage Days", "Master of Puppets", "Ride The Lightning", AND "Kill 'Em All" all on cassette, bitch. Don't talk to me about Metallica.

At first G-Smack was the Shit!!! The first two cd's was kick ass!! The last cd was good... The live show was killer, and then some!! The third cd is out and godsamck is doing 1:25 min. shows... and they are the headline band...WTF!!! Sorry to over work you Sully... Plant was amazing, no doubt. I'll never say anything negative about him, but every one of those guys can do nearly anything he could. The best thing is that we can listen to any of their music whenever we want to. You don't have to pick sides here.
Godsmack kick ass, I can't wait to hear the new stuff. Faceless had some forgetable tracks, unlike their magnificent first two records, even though a couple of tracks from Faceless are some of the best they've done yet.

If you idots ever took time to read up on a bands name before you say where they got it from you would know that it was not from some gay AIC song here is where it was from.
Their original name was The Scam. Stewart came in one day when they were doing pictures with a huge cold sore on his lip. For the entire day, Sully was making fun of him because of it. The next day, Sully came in with the same size cold sore on the same spot on his lip. Erna told Sully, "That's God smacking you for making fun of Tommy!" and bam, there was a great name. They knew it was also the name of an Alice in Chains song (from the album Dirt), but the name was too good to pass up
