Ex-PANTERA Drummer Says PHILIP ANSELMO Has Nothing To Do With REBEL MEETS REBEL Project
- Jan. 5, 2006
|
|
|
Former PANTERA/DAMAGEPLAN drummer Vinnie Paul has released a statement to BLABBERMOUTH.NET refuting previously published reports that the upcoming album from his REBEL MEETS REBEL project may include a guest appearance by ex-PANTERA singer Philip Anselmo.
Described as a unique crossover of country, metal and rock, REBEL MEETS REBEL features three of the founding members of PANTERA (Vinnie Paul, "Dimebag" Darrell Abbott and bassist Rex Brown) together with legendary country singer/outlaw David Allan Coe. REBEL MEETS REBEL's CD was recorded over a four-year period and is set to contain a total of 12 tracks, including "Nothin' To Lose", "Rebel Meets Rebel", "Cowboys", "Panfillo", "Heartworn Highway", "One Night Stand", "Arizona Rivers", "A Man With Nothin' Ain't Got Nothin' to Lose", "New York City Streets" and "Get Outta My Life".
It was previously reported that the album's title track, "Rebel Meets Rebel", would be a duet between Coe and Anselmo, but according to Paul, that was never the case.
Stated Vinnie: "All the information that has been reported [on BLABBERMOUTH.NET] about my label [Big Vin Records] and REBEL MEETS REBEL is true except there never was nor is a collaboration that involves the former singer of PANTERA and REBEL MEETS REBEL. REBEL MEETS REBEL is David Allan Coe, Dime, myself and Rex. It is a very cool record and will be out in April!!
"Now that the record is straight, thanx for your support and interest..."
"Rebel Meets Rebel" will be the first release through Vinnie Paul's Big Vin Records, which has secured a distribution deal via Fontana. The second project to be released via Big Vin will be a DVD, "Dimevision", as a tribute to Dimebag, one of metal's all-time guitar greats who is credited by some for creating the original concept which eventually became the MTV hit series "Jackass". "Dimevision" features Dime's stellar guitar playing and offbeat brand of humor, and is sure to be a title every serious PANTERA fan will have to own.

Vince was the one that ran his mouth like a punk causing a lot of the friction between the brothers and phil. All completely unessecary on all sides in the stupid fucking fued fueled by ego. All it did was rob the people of further music by an awesome fucking group of guys. on another note
LONGHORNS OWN THE TROJANS. HOOK THOSE SPOILED BITCHES. HOOK EM GOOD. FUCKERS. THE BIGGEST BUNCH OF WHINY FANS IN THE WORLD.
I agree with hatetofeel...Vince should shut the fuck up who care sif phil was or wasnt involved...was rob zombie or serj from SOAD? no? good. that means about as much as phil being involved. Jpohnny Cash wasnt involved either...lets move on...

yes he was clearing up an error. BUT, you can see the hating in the way he worded it. "there never was nor is a collaboration that involves the former singer of PANTERA "
like he doesnt know phils name? youre gonna call the singer from your band by the "former singer"? he said it that way cause hes pissed. im not defending phil. im sure hes no angel as well but the one good thing that should have come out of dimebags death is for these 2 to say im sorry to each other and fuck all this drama bullshit. even if they never make music again, they should get along because most of us in life will never get the chance to say goodbye to the people we love and care for when its time to check out. i dont mean to get all deep but its the truth. LIVE YOUR LIFE, DONT WASTE TIME ON HATING SOMEONE ELSES!

I used to work right down the road from his titty bar, the Club House, at Zero Gravity an amusement park that has bungee jumping and 100 foot free fall into a net. One night I was at the Club House and he was there. I politely went up to him and said I don't mean to bother you, but that I really dig your music and I gave him some free passes to the amusement park and told him about it. He took the passes and turned away from me without saying a word. In his defense though I guess I should mention that the Stars had just lost against the New Jersey Devils in the Stanley Cup playoffs, but he still could at least have uttered a thanks. Revolver has a great article about Pantera with an interview from Rex and their former producer. There is also a great article about Phil in there, it brought back some respect for him in my eyes.

If you read any of the Guitarworld articles that came out between Reinventing the Steel and Damageplan, you'd kow that Dime was heartbroken that he and his brother lost what they spent years building. The blame, in their minds at least, was on Phil for not even taking phone calls. They could have done this album while he was doing SJR or Body in Blood or Down, but didn't release it because they were waiting for the right time. So I'd bet that this one doesn't just heal over for my man, Vinnie. It's a shame though because FLOODS is a wicked solo and FBD has some of the best power grooves that they ever did! Makes my neck hurt just thinking about it.
SDMF04 was right, no yankee beer. They don't seel that shit here. I will crack open a Shiner or throw back some Crown when this does come out thoug. And it's not fried chicarones here in the trailerpark. It's BBQ and microwave burritos all the way baby!!

That is so fucking wrong!!!!!!!!!!
Because PHIL is the shithead who LEFT PANTERA and had no intention of ever joining PANTERA again. PHIL never returned phonecalls. PHIL is a super ego maniac junkie ASSHOLE of the grandest kind!!!!! And all the EVIL PHIL spoke against DIME only days before DIME was killed is only one thing - UNFORGIVEABLE!!!! And you shouldn't try and change the facts years later. If you continue blaming Vinnie for ANYTHING you are so fucking WRONG, all of you!!!! Since you have no clue of the true facts- SHUT UP!
I wish it was PHIL who was dead instead. That would end his EGO and all Phil is is EGO, all he want's is to be part of grieving Dime. But it's only in ego interest Phil want's to say "sorry"!!!! It is fcuking EVIL! PHIL is fucking EVIL! And this is the god damn TRUTH!!!!!!!!

Ok, first off, a lot of people are getting a little too emotional over this, and the relationship between the brothers and Phil. None of us, except those three really know went down. I am pretty sure nobody ever imagined Darrell being killed, and I know Phil would take back anything bad he had said towards both brothers. Also, Kerrang and Metal Blade are borderline tabloid british mags, that have been accused by other bands or musicians about misquoting interviews. Both camps have ego's. More so, displayed outward cofindence can be mistaken for having a huge ego. So what anyway. Most rock stars are ego tistacal. They both are guilty for talking shit about eachother. Vince should have avoided speaking publicly about Phil and his struggles with drugs. He could have said no comment. Vinnie isn't any stranger to Phil. He's known him as cocky from the start. Plus, all of these people that call Phil a junkie. I have had extreme back problems too. I understand the plight. It sucks! Now he has been clean for awhile, and finally has had his back surgery. So now he can think clearly, rehab himself, and focus on the music. To " I " and " sabbathisgod ". 1) Phil never let down Pepper. Phil DIDN'T leave Pepper. After the 2002 Down tour was over, Pepper reconviened back to his day job to write new stuff with Corrosion Of Conformity. Phil with Superjoint. And Phil never made the comments " days " before Dime died. They were made in October. Two months before the shooting. The article came out, and FUCK Metal Blade for being so insensitive for even publishing it and putting out just after the incident went down. Could you imagine being in a tift with a old friend, and you say some off the cuff stuff, like you would beat their ass, then two months later that old friend is shot down? Do you know how you would feel? It's been over a year, and I wish Vinnie can let it go. Before Dime was shot, D & V had been spouting off at the mouth too. Vinnie says they would have never reunited, but I believe they would have down the road. KK said Rob would never get back with Priest. Same with the Maiden camp. The Sabbath guys too. Remeber Ozzy said the same stuff after his mates sacked him. What happened later on? Back stabbing in the press sells magazines and creates interest from the fans. You'd have to be a knuclehead to not know that. I really wish the hatchet can get buried between those two, for they desreve it. All those years together. The early years without a record deal in the clubs. The stuff they have now, the living and things they have now, are because of one and the the other. To have, then they had to have eachother. And to be brtually honest, Damageplan nor Superjoint would have made it out of the clubs. What does that tell you? Maybe they did need eachother more than they even knew or know. Time heals all wounds. In honor of Darrell, it'd be nice to see Phil, Vinnie and Rex do something together. Maybe not Pantera obviously, Darrell is irreplaceable,.But maybe a twin guitar team could be part of it. I really do hope. Mostly for healing and moving towards positivity.

Country metal seems like it would sound like a steaming pile up shit, and redneck metal makes me want to vomit Ted Nugent spew. Dimebag ruled the wasteland, but he's gone now. Good retort, but I still feel they both should have kept their mouths shut! Anyway, to me it looks like Vince is being very immature here. He's 42 years old. That comment looked like something a 12 year old would have said. And his statement is premeditaded. By making that comment he's going out of his way to to slam Phil. Remember now, Phil hasn't said anything derogatory toward Vince. He hasn't said anything negative towards anyone for about 15 months now. However you think personally about Phil is your own right, but Vinnie looks plain childish, and it lookd stupid when I read it. Like throwing mud for no reason. Whatever.
