Exclusive: Drummer IGOR CAVALERA Quits SEPULTURA; ROY MAYORGA Steps In

Drummer Igor Cavalera has left Brazilian thrashers SEPULTURA, BLABBERMOUTH.NET can exclusively reveal. Replacing Igor on the band's upcoming European trek will be none other than former SOULFLY skinsman Roy Mayorga. Mayorga, who has yet to rehearse with SEPULTURA, spent quite a bit of time jamming with SEPULTURA guitarist Andreas Kisser in preparation for the recently released "Roadrunner United: The All-Star Sessions" CD and the subsequent Roadrunner 25th anniversary concert, which took place last month in New York City. When asked if his stint with SEPULTURA will extend itself beyond the band's upcoming trek, Mayorga told BLABBERMOUTH.NET that it's too early to tell, but indicated that he hoped to "ride it out for as long as" possible. At press time, there has been no official word on what Igor's future plans are. However, what is known is that he is currently awaiting the birth of his fourth child — his first with his new bride following a split with his wife of 10 years, Monika, in 2004. SEPULTURA's European tour with IN FLAMES is scheduled to kick off March 12 in Oslo, Norway. The band's new album, "Dante XXI" (featuring Cavalera), is scheduled for release in North America on March 14 via SPV USA. UPDATE: Igor Cavalera is taking a break from SEPULTURA to spend time with his new wife while they await the birth of their first child together, but he has no intention of leaving the band, the drummer told BLABBERMOUTH.NET Friday night. god damn it! this sucks sooooo much... yeah, they really should change the name now, actually, just break up, come on, igor is irreplaceable in Sepultura! You know what, I hope Igor goes on to make another band that crushes soulfly and sepultura, you know he's got the talent... so I guess what I'm saying is GO IGOR!!!! you still rock!!! Sepultura... goodbye, and thank you, you are (were) still one of my favorite bands, but please, don't come back after this, unless it's in an all-out reunion.

Igor is one badass motherfucker, and the only real reason I still listen to Sepultura. I was thinking about going to this In Flames/Sepultura tour, but I really can't be bothered now after reading this.
I have to admit, although I never saw Sepultura live with Max, after all the live recordings and videos I have watched with him, Derrick seems to be the more consistant musician (i.e. able to sing with the same voice all the time, good guitar skills). If you listen to 'Under a Pale Grey Sky', Max's voice seems to jump between growls and clean. I'm sure Max made a far better impression on stage, but I've been impressed with Derrick's stage performance every time I have seen them. Of course, he could never really be a replacement for Max simply because Max MADE Sepultura.
With this departure though, Sepultura will probably not be on my list of bands to see live anytime soon.

I 've had the pleasure of seeing seps live with Max two times and I must admit although Derrick is a great singer, Max had such a powerfull voice.

bbb - Fair enough. Like I said, I never saw them with Max so all I have to go is recordings.
bill - Hehe, I've actually just found out that the In Flames/Sep tour IS coming to my town (Cardiff, Wales). Tickets are £18, but unless my brother or someone buys me a ticket for my birthday (which is 2 days before the gig) I probably won't go. I don't like In Flames, and it seems a bit of a waste of money to go and see Sep without Igor, especially as there are lots of other upcoming gigs I want to go to - Helloween (they pwn), DragonForce (loved them last time I saw them, fantastic stage act) and some others.

but Sepultura without at least one Cavalera in the band is no Sepultura at all.
This bums me out. I'm an old school Seps fans too. I've seen Sepultura with Max 8 times and seen em with Derrick 5 times. I have every single album, every single & B-side, videos, bootlegs, just tons of Seps stuff. Even the Arise cover tattooed on my leg. I'm truly bummed out right now. Feels like the end of a legacy.

Am I reading this story and headline right? I'm wanting to wake up and think this is a bad dream!
Why would Igor quit Sepultura, after working so hard to establish the band post-Max?
There has to be something big to the story that we're not being told as of yet. I mean, they've got a brand new album coming out in two months, and Igor up and quits? I'm very shocked!
The only good that will come out of this is either:
a. Igor rejoins as quick as he quit.
b. Igor and Max reunite, musically.
c. This causes Max and Igor to rejoin Sepultura.
d. Sepultura ends, with Andreas continuing onward with Asesino.

What's the big deal? Sepultura died when Max took off. Soulfly already has a gold album in the US. Their tour in Europe is practically sold out all the way to the end of March. What other band can play 57 shows in 60 days? If that's not being loyal to your fans than what is? Taking ex-Soulfly drummer tells how bad crooks and jealous Andreas and Paolo must be. They can't even think of their own name they had to steal one that Max invented when he was twelve!

Roy is one hell of a drummer. He is totally kick ass live ( I have his drum sticks from a Soulfly concert, I got 11 stitches in my forehead for them!!!) I am soooooo happy about this!!!!!
