ALICE IN CHAINS Tap COMES WITH THE FALL's WILLIAM DUVALL For HEART Tribute Gig
- Jan. 19, 2006
|
|
|
COMES WITH THE FALL vocalist/guitarist and member of Jerry Cantrell's (ALICE IN CHAINS) touring band William DuVall has been tapped to sing lead vocals with the reunited ALICE IN CHAINS at the taping of an episode of VH1 Classic's "Decades Rock Live!", a tribute to HEART that will take place March 10 at the Trump Taj Mahal in Atlantic City. "The show promises to be a lot of fun — an all-star miniature 'Last Waltz' scenario, with jamming between the two honorees and famous friends of both bands stepping in to lend a hand," stated DuVall. "I am honored to be a part of such an historic occassion." Also appearing on the program will be former JANE'S ADDICTION/RED HOT CHILI PEPPERS guitarist Dave Navarro and Gretchen Wilson. A spring air date for the show is to be announced shortly.
The "Decades Rock Live!" series is a collection of tributes to artists who have shaped and influenced music over the past several decades, generally including artists the guest of honor picks as influences and more modern acts that have been influenced by the honoree.

I know AIC was the whole band, but Layne was the voice and without that it aint the same. You just won't get the same harmonies as you did with Layne and Cantrell. Oh Well...

....I like how you figured out how to word that , Bori *wink*.....Thank You......
This is one show, in March, with Jerry, Sean & Mike there, too.....
Just like the Tsunami Benefit was it's own special jam session.....
Just like there's been many versions of a Jerry Cantrell band (which did include Kinney & Inez at one point long ago, for Boggy Depot).....Not only has William sung AIC songs at Cantrell shows for years, he's even done one which included the Wilson Sisters (Key Arena in Seattle, 2002).....
Not to mention alot of these shows were happening before & after Layne passed......
No, it's not the same as Layne, but it doesn't suck, either....

Is he still locked up for breaking into luggage at the airport? Inez is a much better bassist. Get real.
No, it won't be the same with out Layne - but if this guy can pull it off at least that's something.
But the real question about this is - is Nancy Wilson as fuckable as she used to be? And will her morbidly obese sister Ann have tubes of cookie dough stashed behind the amps "just in case"?
Heh-heh.

To the dipshits that put down Mike Starr... Get your head out of your asses. "Inez is superior" is bullshit. Can you tell us what makes him so superior? Mike Starr contributed to AIC's best material. The first 2 AIC records destroy anything they did after. I've never considered Inez anything more than a hired gun.

That's because you're stupid. Yes, Starr contributed to AIC's best stuff - but anyone could've done that. And why is he not still contributing? For one because he's a drug-addled clown. Another reason is that Inez is a better bassist.
Dumbshit.

Speaking as another person who saw Mr. Duvall cover AIC vocals on Jerry's degradation trip tour I have to agree that he can more than hold his own. I miss Layne too, but calling blame on anyone is BS. An addict does not recover until they want to and that is a fact. No one is going to force them to get better. I don't care what they call themselves, I'd like to hear a new album.

Fuck you bitch. In every AIC thread you do nothing but whine about the mighty JC.
And neither of the Mike's is superior to the other. Starr did contribute to the very best AIC material. FACT (not one of ANGST's moronic false opinions which he labels facts). Inez however is a better allround musician, plus he's a nicer guy.
My opinion on Duvall is that he's a decent vocalist. I even own one of their albums (selftitled). Ive got TONS of bootlegs of Jerry's solo tours (with and without Duvall) and dont think Duvall and anything to the AIC music. Layne's voice was so deep and haunting it could rip the skin of your face.
And no, it is indeed not fair to Duvall to compare him to the mighty Staley, but thats whats gonna happen when you sing his parts.
So I'd rather they give Lachman or Keenan a call. Or let JErry do it himfuckingself.
But whatever you do Jerry, please dont start using the AIC name after this one-off show.
AIC = GREAT LEGACY = LAYNE+JERRY+SEAN+MIKE(s)

I heard through a reliable source that this is NOT 100% confirmed, but it looks as though William Duvall will be the guest lead singer for AIC at the Heart Tribute. We realize that nobody will ever be able to fill the shoes of the late great Layne Stanley, and knowing whoever they chose to perform for this Decades TV Special, would be under some sort of scrutiny, especially with die hard AIC fans...HOWEVER, William has performed AIC songs many times with Jerry Cantrell and is a great singer and certainly has the talent. He's as good as anyone out there that is avail..Remember, this is a show paying tribute to HEART, which luckily has reunited the 3 members of AIC to perform together those AMAZING AIC Songs, which also paying homage to the great music of Layne Stanley as well !! Let's not forget that.. This truly is a once in a lifetime rock moment that will prob not happen again in this lifetime...Remember, it's about AIC honoring Heart and HEART honoring the music of Layne Stanley/Alice In Chains, they are all very close friends...Sooooo, this Decades show is gonna ROCK !

It's the 3 surviving members of AIC with a guest lead singer... They will be performing AIC songs as Alice In Chains....If Layne was here. he would be there....
If Journey. Styx, INXS, Queen, Judas Priest, Skynyrd, Doobie Brothers, Chicago, THe Cars , shall I go on ? tour consistantly under those names, why can't Freakin Alice In Chains perform ONE FREAKIN Concert reunion to honor there friends, Heart ?

"I'm just waiting for the phone to ring, to see if and when it's going to happen," Lachman said. "I would be willing to participate if it's something they wanted to explore. The door's wide open, and it would be an opportunity of a lifetime to play with musical icons and people I now consider my friends."
If he's willing to come on as a full time vocalist, why the HELL hasn't it happened yet? I would much rather see Lachman or Maynard become the new lead vocalist rather than DuVall. Granted no one should down DuVall when, if the time came that Jerry Cantrell asked you to come and sing for AIC you know damn well you would jump on it. Just to say you did it! I still think that Jerry is making a bad decision when choosing DuVall. It should be someone that is already established, some one we already know and love!

All of you people saying that Jerry, Mike, and Sean shouldn't use the AIC name on tour because Layne was the voice, you should ask yourself what the fuck is wrong with you? The voice is only one part of the band. You also have the music. If I'm not mistaken Jerry wrote majority of the songs and sang on a lot of them. I know Jerry and Layne had there falling out, but they did not hate each other. Shit like that happens in bands. I heard Jerry's solo tour with Duvall singing, and I think he did a damn good job. No he wasn't Layne, but he sounded really good. Kennan is not Layne Staley either. But AIC did consist of three other members, and those three members are still here and willing to play. So all of you people who want to be bitches and bitch about it just shut the fuck up and just don't listen to the music.

AIC is touring europe right now with MTV's Rock am Ring and Rock im Park and then heading off to America. Yes, they are still using William Duvall as thier guest singer. As a matter of fact, i'm going to Rock im Park tomorrow to see them as well as Tool (GOD I hope Maynard will make a showing while AIC is on). Much as I love Layne's voice, there's still noone in my opinion that stacks up to MJK. Did you ever hear Rage's "know your enemy" live without Maynard? It's just not the same.
I fully expect AIC's new sound to be a little different, but it's still AIC and I am estatic about seeing them live. Unfourtunately i never got to see them live with Layne, except watching MTV's AIC Unplugged like a billoin times.
As for continuing AIC after this tour, it's up to the band. AC/DC managed to survive and then some after Bon Scott managed to off himself. Pink Floyd went through a singer change without a hitch. We're not talking about ho-hum bands with an easily reproduced sound (especially AC/DC's voice), so if AIC goes for it, with or without Duvall, more power to them. It's not an easy thing to pull off, but it is doable.
