PARADISE LOST To Appear In 'Gothic Rock' Documentary - Jan. 19, 2006
According to a posting on PARADISE LOST's official web site, Diran Noubar of Kayane Productions Inc. will be shooting a "rockumentary" on gothic rock, which will apparently "show how PARADISE LOST are pioneers of the genre." He has already undertaken some filming during the recent Mexican shows and will be continuing his work on the forthcoming Greek dates. To help with his film, he may need to interview some of the group's fans if they wish to take part. Diran will be giving more details in his own post on the band's official web site later today.

PARADISE LOST's latest album, entitled "Paradise Lost", was released in the U.S. last November via Abacus Recordings. The CD features the regular 12 tracks and two bonus tracks taken from the limited-edition "Forever After" EP.

"Paradise Lost" was recorded primarily at Chapel Studios in Lincolnshire, England under the guidance of producer Rhys Fulber (FEAR FACTORY, FRONT LINE ASSEMBLY). The follow-up to 2002's "Symbol of Life" is the group's first CD to feature drummer Jeff Singer (ex-BLAZE).

Good - they fucking deserve it. All those mall goths think HIM and Evanescence are goth.

Excellent band. I don't really think you can nail them down to one genre, because they've changed their sound so many times. For the record, they were one of the pioneers of doomdeath along with My Dying Bride and Anathema. Obviously, Paradise Lost and Anathema aren't playing that style anymore.

PL were doing their style a fair bit before My Dying Bride and Anathema btw..Anathema were big PL fans! They are innovators or some kind for sure. In 94/95 a whole bunch of metal bands gothed up their sound after Draconian Times blew up (Sundown, Sentenced etc).

Paradise Lost är goth music for sure. At least the were playing gothic metal a decade or so ago. Either way they rule!

Yep I've gotta agree. To be honest I'm not entirely sure what they are other than a great band. Have to admit I haven't heard the last couple of releases though. The only genre or group you can put them into is the same one as My Dying Bride and Anathema as Kirill said. Anyway thats besides the point. Great band and about time they got some credit as theres a fair few bands that owe them big.

The debate isn't over whether they're goth, the debate is over whether they're goth rock. Despite the fact that the word 'goth' is a swear word to most metalheads, I think it's pretty undeniable that Paradise Lost were at least partially influenced by the goth scene. Lyrically, if nothing else. That doesn't make them goth rock though. They're a metal band first and formost. The closest they ever came to being goth-rock was in covering The Sisters Of Mercy's classic song 'Walk Away'. Paradise Lost sound nothing like The Sisters Of Mercy, Fields Of The Nephilim, Bauhaus etc or even modern goth-rock bands like The 69 Eyes. They're just a very, very good and diverse metal band.
