well while it is true the screams should be passionate this is called the music buisness, what the fuck you gonna do if you blow your voice out after your second cd and or tour because you are an idiot and just use the 'i'll just scream my balls off' technique that it seems the posters here would use. i will tell you what the fuck you will do, you will have my pizza to me within a half hour or the fuckers free, bitch. It's pretty informative. I learned a few good trick but there's a trap... You wont learn how to scream... The DVD last more than 2 hours and it's filled with interview and NORMAL vocals exercise.
Nothing specific about how to scream without hurting yourself.... THE DVD IS SUPPOSE TO BE FOR THIS... NO?? There's only a 10min chapter about it..(ON 2 HOURS)
Melissa Cross knows what she is doing. SHE ROCKS!!
Maybe next time she will give us more trick on how to scream...

Basically the trick is to generate the raspiness/growl from your soft pallate, not your chords. The soft pallate is the part at the back of the roof of your mouth, i.e. stick your tounge straight back as far as it goes.

HAHAHAHA I saw Nile 2 times. They always seemed mad cheesey although the music was pretty good. Just the singer looks mad funny and had tweezed ass eyebrows and the guitar player had the cheesey fan so his hair would blow around but I don't care about image. ALso when the singer would wing he looked like a fat pig (just his face) so it made me laugh. It was hard to listen to music with that much heaviness then look up at this dude and not laugh. I felt like a little kid. God I miss Coney Island High. Seeing bands up that close in a place that barley crammed enough people in. I heard they turned it into a fucking burger king. BOO!!!!!

atreyu is one the gayest band out there buddy and ive never bought anything from a hot topic store they have nothing there that interests me i dont particurly like death metal in fact i fucking hate most of it that dosent mean i dont respect it i know were the music came and thats all that matters i dont have to like something to respect it i know without that music there would be no "core" but just take a look at how many vocalists have fuckeed up there voice by screming wrong that is what this is about but i still stand by my statement about death metal vocals(cookie monster) and as far as what have i done, i started a band a couple of months ago and yes its "core" thats what i like and thats what ill do i just want to play guitar and i really dont give a fuck if anyone likes my influences

Ok, first off, I would like to say that it's a very obvious fact that we don't all like the same music. So I will not say that any certain bands "suck" because I do not know that for sure. They might sound bad to me, but not to other people, and whether or not they are adept in their musical abilities is not for me to say, so I will not, and I wish others wouldn't either.
Second, to darkestempire: Yes, screaming does come naturally, but screaming properly so that you do not damage your vocal chords beyond repair does not. This is where a screaming coach would come in handy, because as axl Rose said, if you blow your voice out, then you will be out of a job, and probably a lifestyle. Then where will you be?
Next, to temptationsburning: You are a complete moron. First off, if you are going to point at someone for being "the only one" who took offense to your statement, why not give other people time to make their opinion, instead of just saying "oh, you're the only one who I offended", when you probably offended alot more people who have jobs, and can't sit in front of the computer all day to read comments right as they are posted. Now on to your first comment: The music is not all about losing your girlfriend, and to make a generalization just because you can't understand what the lyrics are really saying is pathetic. Try actually paying attention to what they are saying, maybe you will learn something. Or maybe even that is too difficult for you, considering you can't get your point across unless it is in all caps. Try typing like a civilized human being, and not screaming like the singers in your favorite death metal bands.
Lastly, to adamb719: Calling bands pathetic just because you don't like their sound is completely ridiculous. If you can scream better than Corey, then let's hear you try, and if it turns out that you can, then why don't you go out there and do what he's doing, huh? Make yourself heard, and actually let people listen to the music you people say you love so much. About the Lamb of God comment, not everyone can have a gigantic vocal range, but that shouldn't bar them from being able to do what they love. He is out there every day pouring out his soul, giving people the opportunity to share with him what he loves. He doesn't care whether everyone likes it or not, so why should you shun him simply because you don't like the sound of his singing/screaming?

personally i hate death/black metal and metalcore or any kinda metal where u growl/scream and its not in the style of halford or dickinson. but i will admit one thing learning ur craft isnt wrong. its just like guitarist getting guitar lessons does that make him gay for wanting to master his technique and craft. i may not like the bands of any of her clients but i wont hate cuz its not my cup of tea. im sure not everyone here likes the metal i listen to which is thrash/speed, glam, power, and traditional. i just like clean vocals or punk type really fast vocals. i play in a traditional 80's sounding band who uses high pitched screaming like halford and vocals like mustaine/kronus. although i will admit i like death and possesed early death that it sbg. so whatever ur into and it moves u play it. isnt that how this thing called metal came to be? also for u ppl that says what are u doing for the cause check out my myspace and you'll see what my band is trying to do for the cause.

The best and most raw screaming I've ever heard was on Killswitch Engages' first cd with Roadrunner. It was raw and fueled by emotion. He ended up damaging his voice after every show and now he sticks to a vocal style heavily influenced by Corrosion of Conformity. There is a technique to screaming. If you scream like you guys say you should, you'll be coughing up blood and ruining your voice.
Corey Taylor has an excellent and unique scream. That's more than I can say for a lot of vocalists. Nile's vocalist is an average vocalist at best.

I think you'll find that the original KSE singer eventually ripped his vocal cords due to terrible technique. Corey Taylor's voice has gone down the pan recently; he admits that his voice ruined their latest album
Nile's vocalistS (note - plural) are brilliant. If you consider that both of them are playing guitar at the same time, and realise exactly how complicated their music is, you'll appreciate their vocals alot more. I think what alot of people don't realise is exactly how hard Death Metal vocals are when they're so low; most metalcore vocalists scream within their speaking range and higher; Death Metal vocals are generally at the bottom of the person's range, and to get the power behind that kind of low roar is surprisingly difficult without you sounding like a neanderthal/John Tardy
