It's Official: HAMMERFALL Have Made The Cheesiest Video In Heavy Metal History

HAMMERFALL recently joined forces with the Swedish women's Olympic curling team to shoot a new video for their track "Hearts On Fire", a song from the group's 2002 album, "Crimson Thunder". The track has been reissued as a single in Sweden to give a "boost" to the team as they prepare for the Winter Olympics next month in Turin. "In preparation for the Olympic Games in February, we joined forces with one of Sweden's brightest hopes for a gold medal," said HAMMERFALL guitarist Oscar Dronjak in a statement posted on the band's web site. "With heavy metal as a source of strength, the girls can now focus on bringing home the gold." According to ChartAttack.com, the video features the team led by Anette Norberg pitted against the metalheads, who have few curling skills but know how to have a good time. Mayhem ensues when rocks and brooms go flying and a drum kit appears on the ice. By the end of the video, the athletes have turned in their team uniforms for the leather and studs duds that inexplicably remain popular among rockers. "The video was a blast to record, an attitude shared by everyone involved. The result is an amusing and, for us, a little unusual video," stated Dronjak. Just my opinion of course, but Hammerfall kicks ass. I have all their albums and saw them open up for Dio. I also had the pleasure of meeting guitarist Oscar Dronjak(sic) and he was nice enough to take a few minutes to talk to me and my friends and answer questions, etc. Nice guy!

hammerfall DOES own, and they look absolutely hilarious doing it. i have such a hard time taking this sub genre seriously, which sucks because there is a whole lot of good material within...but so much of it is so damn cheesy. i hope i never see a brainstorm or falconer video...because i'm sure it would just ruin the bands for me.

people who are dissing this video and calling it dumb have probably never had fun in their lives. hammerfall were willing to do something a bit out there, and they obviously had a good time with it. i'm definitely not a fan of their music, but i like their attitude.

I don't like most power metal with the exception of Rhapsody, Dragonforce, Helloween and a few others and I don't like Hammerfall because they put me to sleep, but still they're a lot better than any of the mainstream bands.
I'd rather watch one of their videos or listen to one of their songs than listen to Limp Bizkit, Korn, Avenged Sevenfold or any of that crap. This whole "let's all piss on power metal" trend is just stupid.

Sure Hammerfall are a cool band and sure the video is simply a joke but you gotta laugh at something that silly. And that video is fuckin silly. Actually, "badbrother" Eurometal is starting pick up over here 'cause all the kids are starting to figure out that not only is it catchy, it's written by talented musicians and it's influenced by the 80s (which are super chic if you haven't noticed). And, again since you're so far behind, you'd notice that actually Korn, Disturbed, Rob Zombie and all that shit is starting to really take a hit in the market. Kids are figuring out that it's boring and they've become saturated in it.
Now, granted, Hammerfall will never be big over here, but they're a big joke anyway.. so it's no surprise.

High production values in American media are definitely a factor, I'll give you that, but writing ability isn't even a remote one. Having lived in three European countries for extended periods of time (and learned each respective language) I can tell you flat out that there's plenty of local media that far surpasses the "average" American one, but never makes it overseas for the simple reason that it's made in the native language. Sitcoms and sketch shows are prime examples, but it's far from limited to just those. I'm not taking away from American media in the slightest, but writing ability and talent sure as hell isn't limited by geography. Same goes for bands, who have a far harder time being noticed by Warner Bros. and Sony's agents when playing in Oslo than on the Sunset Strip. And you can imagine how hard it is to market a french rap band in an english speaking world.

American shows snd movies are dubbed in many languages and are still as popular as ever. Did you ever think about that?? It's the content and quality, not the language factor (that matters most). People want to see comedy and action a lot more than they want to see some bullshit 'cultural nonsense' from a nation of has-been and retards, like the Germans or French people. Maybe you need to realize this, first and foremost. Americans know how to reach an audience and the Europeans don't have a clue. A frog rap band?? Why would people care about a lame-ass copy, when they can just buy American and get the original (if that was their preference of music)? That's all European media really is... A lame-ass copy of everything American. I mean, it even takes an American production team to make some of the old British sitcoms tolerable for an international audience.
One more thing.. Please stop with this 'Europe thing.' You are individual countries, with different movies and ideas (with a lot more people, as a whole). You are not united and you are not 'all as one.' You are sort-of united by a common currency, but that's about it.
I mean.. You hear Americans taking credit for everything that comes out of Canada, Mexico, Chile or Brazil, because the continent contains the word 'America' in it?? Please!

yup, it's pretty cheesy. And not even in a funny way, I think they are trying to make a good video here. But with that tune, I don't think it's possible to make a good video. It reminds me of that cartoon back in the 80s where the girl was a superhero rockstar. Gem or something like that, I dunno. I don't know what prog is, or powermetal or core or whatnot. I think good music is good music, be it Venom or Linkin Park. Yah, I like em both, just to piss you off. I just spent a good hour reading this stuff. It seems that Blabbermouth does a pretty wide range of music, and pardon me if I am human, if I hear corny ass name for a band, chances are Im not gonna check em out.......unless it says cheesiest of all time. I'll give it the cheesiest of the week anyway. Until the new Warriors of Thunder video comes out, or whatever. BUT, Im not saying the lyrics to Hammerfalls songs are any better than Pantera, or whatever "good metal, real metal" band. People always ask me why I listen to music that I can't understand the lyrics too. and I always tell them, Im glad I can't understand the lyrics, cause there is a 99% chance that they are fucking stupid. Whatever though, if you dig it, dig it. If you don't and someone else does, let them dig it. You can't talk someone into liking something, cause then you will just shit on them for being posers. Its a no win situation.

For years, Europeans - most notably the French - have argued that the American movie industry gained global dominance because of two things: bigger markets and better marketing. They whine that our domestic market is so huge, Hollywood can make a bigger profit and afford to spend more on marketing, crowding out smaller foreign flicks.

And while there's some merit to that argument, the reality is that making violent movies makes sense as a business decision because audiences around the world understand violence more than they understand obscure cultural references.
For example, "Home Alone" was one of the most popular films in Turkish history, and men all around the world understand what's going on in a Three Stooges movie. But diverse populations would probably need to have "All the President's Men" explained to them.
As the barriers between global markets come down and the incentives for global marketing strategies increase, it's only more and more likely that the universal language of sex and violence will gain more currency. There are no more "ancillary markets;" there is now just one market, and sometimes this will mean that Hollywood cares less about what America wants and more about what can be comprehended by people in any corner of the globe.
