JUDAS PRIEST: 'Essential' Two-CD Collection To Arrive In April - Jan. 30, 2006
Columbia Records/Legacy Recordings will release the two-CD set "The Essential Judas Priest" on April 4.

JUDAS PRIEST rocketed out of the tough steel town of Birmingham, England, more than three decades ago, and the 34 songs collected here form nothing less than the very backbone — the pure essence — of heavy metal. This uncompromising style of rock 'n' roll has earned a remarkably loyal fan base worldwide and no other band defines heavy metal better than JUDAS PRIEST.

The core of vocalist Rob Halford, lead guitarists Glenn Tipton and K.K. Downing and bass guitarist Ian Hill worked with several drummers in the earlier years, with longtime current member Scott Travis rounding out the definitive lineup due to his incredible power and versatility. JUDAS PRIEST knows that what matters is the music, and its ability to blend unforgettable melodies with atomic-bomb power has never been equalled.

All the songs on "The Essential Judas Priest" are the complete original studio album versions featuring the Halford/Tipton/Downing/Hill axis — from the 1976 landmark "Sad Wings Of Destiny" through the astonishing 2005 reunion platter "Angel Of Retribution".

The track listing is as follows:

Disc 1:

Great collection, IMHO. It may not have all the great songs but there is a complete lack of turds on there unlike many other Best Of collections.

Ugh... yet another way for the record company to sell the same material to the same public, over & over. Then they wonder why CD sales are in the toilet.

Too bad for them that I already own everything PRIEST has put out & can comfortably ignore this cash cow.

PRIEST RULES

Looks like most fans that would consider this essential already would have all those tunes on their iPods.

Might be a great introductory CD for new fans to load their's with. Or nu fans as the case may be.

They do this every year, How about just putting out a good record, period. Jugulator was the last one and that was almost 10 years ago, PLEASE just give it up, oh I know, another greatest hits package for the 100th time in the past 15 years

"JUDAS PRIEST rocketed out of the tough steel town of Birmingham, England"

Birmingham aint a steel town! unless they mean steel as in "metal music"...Birmingham is the home of Sabbath afterall.
essential cd set looks pretty cool though.

Jugulator was the worst song on that album.

The collection could have been much better. Where are rock hard ride free, death row, cathedral spires, etc?

The coolest thing about it, for me, is that pre-CBS era Priest stuff is being included---meaning stuff from Sad Wings Of Destiny.

I always thought it was a shame that the past compilations could only use live versions of stuff like "Victim Of Changes" because of issues with the first Priest record label.

Lame...if this is any good then why did they put out Metal Works or that other compilation Living After Midnight or even Metallogy?

Missing songs on this: Run of the Mill, Jugulator, Desert Plains, Eat Me Alive, Better by you Better than Me.

Songs they should have removed from this: Revolution, Hot Rocking.

"worth fighting for" should be in place of "revolution." when a JP ballad doesn't fall flat, it's good stuff.

pointless release, i already have all the albums, but at least it's a reasonably solid tracklist.

Standard intro 2disc.

Priest 101.

How about a rare tracks set?
How about a live set?
Lost Tracks?

The Re-Issue Box Set where they make the Metalion is great. IT had some gems but other than what's already released, I smell stocking stuffer for next year.

The Tipton upcoming releases are the true gem. Nice competing against yourself too, huh Glenn?

Priest Does Rule though and that's undeniable.
