GODSMACK Set Release Date For New Album - Feb. 1, 2006
GODSMACK have set an April 25 release date for their new album, "IV". The album's first single, "Speak", will be released to radio on Tuesday, February 14.

In a recent interview with MTV.com, GODSMACK frontman Sully Erna had the following to say about the follow-up to 2003's "Faceless": "It's a killer record, and I'm really curious to see what the public's going to think of it. It's still GODSMACK — I don't think it's lost the integrity of what GODSMACK has built our career off. The toughness of the sound is still there. But we've expanded a little bit more. After 'Faceless', we started to spread our wings a bit and reintroduce guitar solos and stuff like that. The acoustic record [2004's 'The Other Side'] was a departure and it was very well received. It opened up a new audience for us — a lot more adults were coming to the shows, bringing their kids and having a glass of wine. That gave us a permission slip to take it to the next level.

"It will perk people's eyebrows up again," he added. "The first couple of records were kind of the same record, in a sense. They were sort of bordering that metal sound and then the third record had more rock mixed into it. ['The Other Side'] really softened up the sound. This one is more rock and roll, and some songs are very epic, in a TOOL [-ish] sense. Some songs are like old-school GODSMACK, like 'Bad Religion'. It's going to service the core fans and introduce some new music to those fans. It's also going to recruit a bigger and broader audience, because the songwriting has matured so much."

Other songtitles expected to appear on the CD include "Livin' in Sin", "Shine Down" (which comes complete with "killer harmonica") and "Voodoo Too".

Hehehe... Awwww, that's so cute. Go back to your crayons now, Corky.

P.S.: Shannon, please quit this lamer band. There HAS to be better ways to pay the bills. Is it possible you could get the guys from your old band back together for another great CD? I'll even forgive you for the Pink Floyd cover. Promise.

I own the three main Godsmack records (not hte acoustic), and really like the first two a lot, especially Awake. The last one didn't do as much for me, a couple of good tunes. I saw them open for Metallica a while back and they were great live. I'm ready for some new Godsmack, has got to be better than 90% of the no melody, talentless shit that is being passed off as hard rock and these days. I heard some Godsmack ont he radio the other day and was wondering about a new record from them. I'll definatley give it a shot, I always thought they had it in them to make a classic, totally kick ass heavy rockrecord with lots of dynamics, moods, and styles. Time will tell....

If you don't like 'em, don't buy the freakin' album. I don't need anyone's opinion as to what sounds good or not. After I buy this disc, if it's good...I'll say it's good, and if it's bad...I'll say it sucks. Either way, make up your own mind.

They've picked a really bad month to release an album that is epic in a "Toolish sense" since Tool themselves will be releasing an album around the same time.

I have seen Godsmack and Metallica in concert and they put on a Great show!! I am looking forward to hearing the new CD.

And to all the kiddies who are on here bashing it is pretty sad that all you have to do in the middle of the night (when most people are in bed because they have jobs) is be on the computer trying to come up with some crude comment. Sad.....

Dew-Scented's album is entitled "Issue VI" not "IV." Before you go off on a rant, at least know what the hell you're talking about.

Good call on Godsmack. I usually listen to much heavier shit, usually stuff that is clearly "metal". Godsmack is a hard rock band that often comes very close to a metal sound. I think their first two albums are nearly flawless, and "Faceless" was hit-and-miss, but when it hit it was pure rock and roll bliss. The acoustic record was awesome.

Godsmack and Disturbed are both bands that regularly get shit on around here because people think that they're metal wanna-be's. In truth, they're hard rock bands with a great crossover appeal to the metal community. In my opinion, Godsmack will always be better than Distrubed, but I like both of them. Sully Erna is a very intellegent guy and a good voice for American heavy music. His lyrics are interesting, and his vocal delivery is quite excellent.

....I have the CDs and like 'em! However, "introducing solos again" is a lame way of saying "solos are cool once more so we want to jump on the bandwagon and be respected."
Some advice for you Sully....do what you want to do, not what you think is "cool." Though solos have always been cool!
