GUNS N' ROSES And METALLICA To Play U.K.'s DOWNLOAD FESTIVAL?

Will GUNS N' ROSES's classic lineup and METALLICA perform at this year's Download Festival? Legendary rock photographer Ross Halfin seems to think so. According to a February 3, 2006 posting on Halfin's official web site, "the original lineup [of GUNS N' ROSES] is supposed to play Download in June with their metal chums, METALLICA, if Lars [ Ulrich, METALLICA drummer] can be bothered to turn up." ( UPDATE: Halfin has since removed the posting from his site.) This year's installment of the Download Festival is set to take place June 9-11 at Donington Park in Leicestershire, England. Confirmed acts so far include THE PRODIGY, TRIVIUM and BULLET FOR MY VALENTINE, with the full lineup expected to be around 100 rock bands over the three days, according to eFestivals.co.uk. Tickets went on sale on February 3, priced at £110 for the three days, or £135 including camping and parking. Campervans cost £35, and parking is £5 in advance or £10 on the day.

..the original lineup of Metallica...it says the original lineup of Guns N Roses and Metallica. Nothing about it being the original Metallica lineup.
Anyway Slash wasn't in the original Guns lineup either...
The band was formed by singer Axl Rose, guitarist Tracii Guns, guitarist Izzy Stradlin, bassist Duff McKagan, and drummer Robbie Gardner
Bring on Tracii Guns.

Meaning both bands original line ups… It’s shit anyway, I’d rather have Dave in Deth, and Keep ‘Tallica as they are, unless we’re counting Bob Rock… and I don’t like Guns and Roses, so totally don’t care… And Download is nothing compared to the mainland festivals.

I know the English language very well… and it could actual, it could mean either!
I chose it to mean both just to be awkward. In an actual statement (by the promoters) it would be “Metallica and the original line up of Guns and Roses” this way they can’t get sued. :) And trust me if Lucozade for “Lucozade aids recovery” because it is possible for that to mean Lucozade cures you from AIDs, then that means both bands original line ups. Though I don’t think Lucozade got sued… I know they re-branded themselves for that reason.

Tracii did say in a recent interview that he called Axl...obviously on to talk to a dial tone, NEVER THE LESS. It said "CLASSIC" line-up...hence NO ADLER. But on the upside with Metallica...
it will be cool to see CLIFF play once again.
Face it...THAT'S gonna happen before Duff, Slash, Izzy, and Axl play together again...here's to the Chinese Democracy coming out soon after Hetfield, Urlich, Hammett, and Burton play the Download Festival...

Had a nice Saturday doing nothing although I did panic when I thought I'd lost my glasses. Saw The New World last night, a beautiful film, shot in the same way as The Thin Red Line. Even Colin Farrell was ok and the girl playing Pocahontas is striking.
I have to write some copy this weekend on Guns 'N Roses for a feature to go with my photos. My mind is blank at the moment. The thing is if you tell the truth it sets off too many wars, or egos way out of control.

Lloyd Grant was never a full member of Metallica. He did the guitar solos for "Hit the Lights" on the first Metal Massacre compilation. That's it. Mustaine would be the one to fill that spot.

That is exactly right..Hit the Lights was written by James and Lars with James also doing the bass. They hired Lars friend Loyd Grant to help out with the solos. This proves two things.
1) James and Lars already had established the metallica speed metal style well before Dave Mustaine joined the band. This goes against the theory by metallica bashers that Dave was responsibe for that type of classic metallica style..
2) James cannot do fast solos. he can do cool slow melodic solo stuff like MOP, To live is to die and Orion.
I do agree that Dave was a big influence in creating the thrash metal sound of metallica but JAmes and Lars already had their mind set on what Metallica is going to be well before they called themselves metallica..

By the way...some of you need to research English a bit before you start arguing about meanings. The passage reads "the original lineup [of GUNS N' ROSES] is supposed to play Download in June with their metal chums, METALLICA". If it were meant to apply to Metallica as well it would read "the original lineupS of".

I can't imagine Metallica ever relying on Axl as touring partner again. Doesn't everyone remember how bad it went down in the 90's. There were riots. It just didn't work out because of GnR's unstableness. I would hope Metallica would go by the old saying "fool me once shame on you, fool me twice shame on me". I did see the Met/GnR concert back in the day and it was great because that was one of the nights that both group's showed up to play. When it was good it was great, when it was bad it was explosive.

I just watched BTM on VH1 4am this morning on GNR and I have to agree with most on this....NOT gonna happen. Axel's ego will get in his way and fuck everything up and besides I don't think Slash really gives a shit anymore. On a totally different not responding to the mentally challenged person above.....MESHUGGAH'S LAST ALBUM SUCKED SOOOOOO MUCH YOUR MOM HAD TO SWALLOW!!!!!! This cd was one continuous riff....stop praising this band until they can write another album with actual songs.
This is my opinion and no one really cares...just tired of seeing Meshuggah on every post....sorry won't happen again.
