WHITESNAKE Representative Clarifies Reports Of DVD Glitches - Feb. 9, 2006
A WHITESNAKE representative has contacted BLABBERMOUTH.NET to clarify a previously published statement from WHITESNAKE frontman David Coverdale regarding possible video glitches on the band's newly released "Live... In The Still of the Night" live DVD. Says the representative: "Where you do need some clarification is in this manner: first, these are reported errors in the 'bonus features documentary' only, and has no presence whatsoever on the DVD concert itself. Secondly, these reported problems affect only the PAL version of the DVD. The NTSC version released in the U.S. is perfect in everyway and you will find no issue with it. And third, these are reported glitches only effecting video, not audio. Now I am saying 'reported' problems not to diminish the situation, but to put it in this perspective: the technicians that put the DVD together are looking this over right now, and there is no consensus on exactly what the problem is, or what we can do to prevent this happening in the future. My 'guess' is that it had something to do with the conversion to PAL, causing an exaggeration of a few scenes with high motion in the documentary, and noticeable by some people watching this PAL version on some players. Certainly not the majority of viewers. That is all we really know right now, more will surely follow. But please let your many readers know, this in no way affects the DVD concert, and they should by no means avoid buying this product. Most definitely let the U.S. buyers know that the NTSC version is pristine from beginning to 'special features'. This is a DVD that we are head over heels proud of."

A trailer for the "In the Still of the Night" DVD has been posted online at this location. "In the Still of the Night" was recorded with 13 cameras in October 2004 at the Hammersmith Apollo in London. Produced by Coming Home Studios, in association with Done & Dusted, and shot in 1080/24PsF High Definition, the DVD features four different audio soundtracks — stereo, 5.1 SRS Circle Surround, 5.1 Multi-channel, and 5.1 DTS. The DVD, directed by celebrated live concert director Hamish Hamilton (credits include U2, MADONNA, RED HOT CHILI PEPPERS and USHER), also boasts a behind-the-scenes documentary and photo gallery.

As previously reported, WHITESNAKE are tentatively scheduled to record several new songs for a planned collection of live material recorded over the course of the last three years. A video compilation featuring all the WHITESNAKE clips, the COVERDALE/PAGE videos and as-yet-undisclosed "not-so-well-known" clips is also in the works.

WHITESNAKE have just issued their first single-disc retrospective via Hip-O/Geffen/UMe. Entitled "The Definitive Collection", the CD spans nearly every studio album issued by WHITESNAKE, including their pre-U.S. fame LPs "Snakebite" (1978, with the band's first hit, "Ain't No Love in the Heart of the City"), "Lovehunter" (1979, with "Walking in the Shadow of the Blues" and "We Wish You Well"), "Ready An' Willing" (1980, with the title track) and "Come An' Get It" (1981, with "Don't Break My Heart Again"). More information is available at this location.

I just bought Whitesnake's nth anthology, called "The Definitive Collection," on Tuesday, and must say that it's excellent. For once, more than just the Geffen years are represented. There's actually five songs from albums before "Slide It In," as well as one song from the Coverdale/Page project. I definitely recommend it.

how about america ditches NTSC?!
its an inferior system to PAL with more resolution...

oh and High Definition wont show its full potential on a dvd!

so unless they are going to release in on BlueRay or HD DVD in the future it was a waste of time using HD.

sdmf_from-hell

have to disagree as I've seen all the different line-ups vai included and this line-up best represents Whitesnake's music..Steve Vai was not really suited to Whitesnake's blues-based rock like a Doug Aldrich does perfectly and Reb plays the Vai solo's...

I just bought this after waiting an insanly long time for this to come out. I have bad news, both the CD AND the DVD are really messed up. =/ The CD skips and jitters like crazy every few seconds and the DVD can't change between songs properly. The DVD and CD sound and look fantasic but they both play really really badly. It's obvious the manufacture who made these discs fucked up this release by allowing crap to come out of their factories. I'm going to go return my copy and demand my money back till all of this gets fixed.
