Drummer JOHN TEMPESTA Joins THE CULT! - Feb. 14, 2006
After two auditions, John Tempesta (EXODUS, TESTAMENT, HELMET, WHITE ZOMBIE, ROB ZOMBIE) has been hired as the new drummer for THE CULT. Tempesta will make his debut with the group when they perform on "The Late Late Show with Craig Ferguson" on Friday, February 24 on the CBS-TV network.

THE CULT's upcoming tour, tagged "A Return To Wild", will cover 19 cities launching at the legendary Fillmore in San Francisco and winding up at Nokia Live in New York City. Although the band was offered large venues they opted for more intimate houses. These shows are for CULT devotees and the wickedly curious. "We need to reconnect with our people, our tribe," claimed Duffy. "We need to be among them. We want this to be as intimate as possible. You can't do that in an airline hanger, mate."

In addition to playing live shows, THE CULT also plans to "explore the possibilities of making new music in 2006," but no firm commitments have been made, according to a press release.

THE CULT's last tour — behind their acclaimed 2001 album, "Beyond Good and Evil" — featured principal members Ian Astbury (vocals) and Billy Duffy (guitar) alongside longtime THE CULT drummer Matt Sorum and bassist Billy Morrison.

What this means for the future of Helmet.......Size Matters was alright but it was great to finally hear something from Page after so long. And more importantly some of the live shows from the resulting tours were really good. It was awesome to hear songs like "Tic" and "Blacktop" again. John had been Pages drummer for a quite a while. I can see this being the end. As much as I love Helmet they just always seemed to fuck up. Starting with Pages apparent contempt for his own fans and bandmates (Bogdan/Stanier). It's to bad, if things had gone different Helmet could/should have been HUGE.....Oh well..........

I'm shocked that Tempesta didn't try out for W.A.S.P.? He would have been a great choice for them.

Tempesta's a great drummer, but his style doesn't fit with that type of music. I'm not really much of a Cult fan anyway, so I can't see this as being a good move for him.

The Cult were a good band and somewhat relevant in their day. But this is like all the other "reunited" tours without reuniting.

I smell CashGrab and it's not even that big of a grab.

Not really metal, but as a drummer, quite a few of those songs off "Electric" are fun to play. Good luck, John.
