HENRY ROLLINS Cited As 'Possible Threat' By Australian Government

According to News.com.au, American punk rock icon and writer Henry Rollins was reported to the National Security hotline during his recent Australian tour because of a book he was reading on a flight to Brisbane.
A furious Rollins was informed he was "nominated as a possible threat" for reading "Jihad: The Rise of Militant Islam In Central Asia", writes Kathy McCabe.
The incident happened on a flight from Auckland on the recent Big Day Out tour.
Rollins told Australian fans during his tour that he received a letter from a "nice woman" who worked "in one of those government areas that deals with anti-terrorism matters."
He posted the letter on his web site.
"Please tell your Government and everyone in your office to go fuck themselves. Baghdad's safer than my hometown and your PM is a sissy," he wrote.

God, it's been ages since I posted ANYTHING on here, but this is such bullshit. Regardless of anyone's opinion of Hank Rollins (I happen to think his music kicks ass, as does his stand up, and he's a fucking inspiration, but that's just me), this sort of thing should never happen to anyone in a so-called 'civilized' country. Reading a book about the rise of terrorism in South-East Asia? Holy shit! Does that mean if I read 'Lords Of Chaos' on a flight, I'm part of the 'Black Metal Circle'? I may not be a criminal psychologist, but I'd say that a muscular man in his mid-fourties, covered in tattoos who has made his living as a musician, an author, a comedian and much more is a pretty negligable terrorist threat.

In all seriousness, I am not a big fan of Henry Rollins and his music. However, I admire his passion when he speaks his thoughts and opinions. All Henry was doing was trying to educate himself on what’s going on with a certain group of people we all feel are a threat. Maybe the Australian government overreacted in this situation because he was just reading a book but being cautious is part of their job. It is a shame that it has come down to this but it's a harsh reality, no one is safe and anyone can be a suspect. In addition, from what I know Australia is a beautiful country with great people and they have been nothing but supportive to the U.S. in this senseless war. I don't know much about their PM so I cannot comment but I do know enough about our president and my assessment is that he's an idiot. Just my two cents people.

Not really that big a deal, the lady who wrote the letter thought he'd get a kick out of the fact that the asshole sitting next to him reported him as a possible threat. I think reading a book about Jihad on a plane is a good enough reason to be reported. I though Henry was smart enough to realise that combination could cause some alarm, but he isn't too bright quite obviously. The person who reported him probably had no idea who he was and I know I'd be fucking suspicious of him too if I was in the same position.

You do realize that 70 % of the people in the mid east are not crazy like our media makes them out to be, but if you lived in a country where your main export is the most valuable resource in the world right now and you get shit for it, except for getting killed by US troops for walking on the wrong side of the road, I'd be pretty pissed off too... Think about this, nevermind that the US is the best and whatever other horseshit you want to cry about, say the US was invaded by China, what would you do, just sit back and say "It's ok"?? Rollins is not the only one. American authorities have banned Canadian Farley Mowat and old Cat Stevens. All three are outstanding critics of the established order. So will never be free from the government restrictions in their travel...

The British through the queen who is the head of state there, fired the prime minister in the 70s because he refused to allow the americans to have asias biggest spy base there.
The British had non of this and got a more friendly prime minister in.
