JUDAS PRIEST: 'Live Vengeance '82' DVD Due In April
- Feb. 21, 2006
|
|
|
Columbia/Legacy has set an April 4, 2006 release date for JUDAS PRIEST's vintage concert DVD "Live Vengeance '82", which was previously only available on DVD as limited-edition bonus with "Metalogy" box set.
JUDAS PRIEST had steadily been building a worldwide audience for eight long years when the 1982 album "Screaming For Vengeance" exploded and became a smash commercial and critical hit. The mainstream had finally caught on and realized what die-hard fans had known all along: Nobody rocked harder or better than the British heavy metal quintet. The single "You've Got Another Thing Comin'" was embraced by radio and the music video earned heavy rotation on MTV.
"Live Vengeance '82", filmed during the arena-packing 'Screaming For Vengeance" world tour on December 12, 1982, at Mid-South Coliseum in Memphis, Tennessee, was first released on home video in 1983 as "Judas Priest – Live". It had been out of print for many years before its brief inclusion as part of "Metalogy".
Vocalist Rob Halford, lead guitarists Glenn Tipton and K.K. Downing and bass guitarist Ian Hill lead JUDAS PRIEST through a fiery set comprised of classics from previous albums such as "Sad Wings Of Destiny", "Sin After Sin", "Hell Bent For Leather", "British Steel" and "Point Of Entry" as well as the cream of "Screaming For Vengeance". The 17 tracks on "Live Vengeance '82" include: "The Hellion/Electric Eye", "Riding On The Wind", "Heading Out To The Highway", "Metal Gods", "Bloodstone", "Breaking The Law", "Sinner", "Desert Plains", "The Ripper", "Diamonds And Rust", "Devil's Child", "Screaming For Vengeance", "You've Got Another Thing Comin'", "Victim Of Changes", "Living After Midnight", "The Green Manalishi (With The Two-Pronged Crown)" and "Hell Bent For Leather". The "Live Vengeance '82" audio is mastered in both stereo and 5.1 Surround Sound mixes.

Here (Dallas), Krokus on One Vice and The Rods opened up !!!
Now that’s what I call a vintage hard rock show. I did see Maiden (Killers tour) open for Priest on the Point of Entry tour though the summer before.
Is this the show that aired on MTV?

Actually it was Uriah Heep opening that night.
Iron Maiden and Axe opened for them when they played the Auditorium in 1981 , I believe.
Anyhow, saw both shows, and it was great.

"Vocalist Rob Halford, lead guitarists Glenn Tipton and K.K. Downing and bass guitarist Ian Hill lead JUDAS PRIEST through a fiery set comprised of classics from previous albums"
I guess they still want to distance themselves from the "he who must not be named" drummer at the time who went on to reveal himself as a true sicko.
They should get ILM to digitally insert Travis in the concert! Or better yet, Simon Phillips!

...but this show doesn't capture them at their best, IMHO. I've watched this show back to back with their recently released Budokan DVD (I was actually at that show), and they were about 1000 better during the Japan performance. Much tighter as a band, and Halford was in better control of his voice in 2005 than he is in this Memphis performance. Still, it's something to add to the ol' Priest collection...

My bad it was Kick Axe and Uriah Heep who opened, the tour before that was Iron Maiden and Axe. Glad you guys are around to correct my really poor memory, got the Destruction/Godflesh/Cro-Mags tour from the early nineties all messed up too. Anyway ive seen Proest every time theyve toured since Stained Class (when they opened for KISS). Nobody puts on a live show like Priest they are the un-disputed Champions of live metal.

and put out Live after Death on DVD. My tape is starting to visibily deteriorate.
Does the box set still include the DVD? They always say 'limited edition' but it seems 'limited' always ends up meaining 'eternally available.'
I saw them on the Defenders tour in '84. I wish the tour had been filmed.

Making fun of Rob Halford for being gay is as passe and juvenile as you can get. Yeah, he's gay. What do you want him to do? I'm sick of reading your shit. You make Kull look good.

PRIEST MAIDEN AXE = Best Metal Show EVER.
(Maiden also opened for PRIEST the previous year on several dates for the POE tour.)
I dig Coney Hatch and Krokus...but if you got those bands instead of Maiden...ya missed out. Also...Kick Axe opened in '84 on the Defenders tour...not in '82.
And anybody who calls Kings X suck ass is a moron...(but Helstar did indeed kick ass. What ever happened to Deadhorse anyway?)

Why do people make constant "weirdo" "sicko" comments about Dave Holland. He was and no doubt still is a brilliant drummer. He was with priest at the height of their career and he deserved his place. One day all the fools on here who constantly attack Dave Holland will find out that he was innocent. Which I intuitively feeel he is...we shall see hey! He was however still a solid drummer for priest and lets not be fuckin stupid and a bit "weird" by denying his history!
