SLIPKNOT Percussionist To Play SXSW Festival With TO MY SURPRISE
- Feb. 23, 2006
TO MY SURPRISE, the six-piece Iowa outfit featuring M. Shawn Crahan, better known as "Clown" in the seminal metal band SLIPKNOT, will be performing at this year's SXSW (South By Southwest) Festival in Austin, TX. The band will make their SXSW debut at Exodus on Thursday, March 16, at 8:45 p.m. Also appearing that night will be THE EAGLES OF DEATH METAL, THE ANSWER, END OF FASHION, REVEREND GLASSEYE, and MARK MALLMAN. Crahan commented, "I've always wanted to play SXSW, and as of this moment in the dream, it hasn't been a reality, so it's time to fall into the black hole headfirst."
The band, who are currently unsigned, will be heading to Europe in June to play the summer festivals, and hope to tour the U.S. in the fall.
TO MY SURPRISE's self-titled debut was produced at a Los Angeles studio by the legendary Rick Rubin (SLIPKNOT, RED HOT CHILI PEPPERS, SYSTEM OF A DOWN, AUDIOSLAVE, BEASTIE BOYS) and was issued in 2003 through Roadrunner Records.
SLIPKNOT capped off an amazing two years on February 8 by winning their first Grammy Award, in the category of "Best Metal Performance", for "Before I Forget" from 2004's "Vol. 3: (The Subliminal Verses)".
SLIPKNOT has been nominated in the "Best Metal Performance" category for six consecutive years, but never took home the Grammy until now.
The band went on hiatus at the end of 2005 after nearly 18 months on the road in support of "Vol. 3: (The Subliminal Verses)".

You dumbass! I hope you do realize that Shawn Crahan is the reason SlipKnot even exists. It was HIS idea to start the band. They can't just kick out the single most important founding member! And besides that, he does a lot of stuff for the band off stage that most people don't realize (Ex: directing videos, designing album artwork, and just about anything else visually oriented).

if one of those "one-man-bands" could play all of slipknot's songs better than slipknot can. :)
The "music" they play is incredibly simple and repetitive, as is typical of nu metal. The lack of guitar solos (atleast no complicated ones), simple drumming, inclusion of rapping (which requires no talent of course), and some keyboard effects thrown in here and there, proves how dumb their style is (as is all Nu metal, considering all Nu metal bands use this style to play).
Because slipknot's music is aimed primarily at children (or atleast people with the mental capacity of a child), I will tell you all a story to help you wise up. It's called "A Very Nu metal Death".
Once upon a time in a far away land, a young boy named Eric bought a Slipknot CD. Eric loved Slipknot, infact, Eric loved all Nu metal. Eric Joyfully bought all merchandise with Slipknot's logo on them, because he felt it made him stand apart from others; Eric felt unique among the millions of other Slipknot fans who looked exactly like him. As the years passed, and Eric's balls finally began to drop (at age 23), his worst fears began proving themselves to be true; he finally realized what a bunch of posers Slipknot was. Ashamed at having made a fool of himself all those years, and at having spent his college fund to buy all the Slipknot merchandise, Eric became suicidal and killed himself soon after. Left in Eric's suicide note, written in his final hour was only one run-on sentence. " If only I had listened to thatoneguy all those years ago, maybe I would've had a chance at becoming interested in real metal music, I blame Slipknot's bland expliotation of my angst for my death".
True story. Dont let what happened to Eric happen to you.
iv only heard lke 4-6 slpknot songs there ok i give them a 1/2 to 2 stars but its nothign 2 go out and was t ur maney on u can be buying so much better things

to SXSW this year, your time would be much better spent at Underground Resistance's gig than at this band's.
blessed be.

Real metal music? Please tell me who is real metal and lets see how many times people say that band isn't or that the band you mention is not entirely metal.
I listen to Slipknot, but I also listen to a whole array of other bands. Napalm Death, Black Sabbath, Megadeth, Metallica, Mudvayne, Sepultura, Lamb of God, Black Label Society, Exodus, and so on and so forth. I don't know if that counts as real metal because frankly I am not sure what it is and I don't really care anymore. So lets just stop with all the "real metal" shit and go on with our lives.
