Is Something Brewing In LED ZEPPELIN Land?
- Mar. 7, 2006
|
|
|
Launch Radio Networks reports: There's been no official comment, but there just might be something brewing between LED ZEPPELIN leaders Jimmy Page and Robert Plant. The pair has been estranged for a few years, with Plant repeatedly saying he has no interest in revisiting the past. However, while neither man is currently on tour, they were both in Los Angeles last week, and they stayed at the same hotel. Of course, that could just be a coincidence, but photographer Ross Halfin wrote in his online diary at RossHalfin.co.uk that he was with both men in L.A. in separate incidents, and that Plant was "in town with Jimmy Page."
Over the past few years, Page has asked Plant to work together, but Plant has always declined and said repeatedly that he has no interest in revisiting the past.
In August of 2004, Page told the U.K. newspaper The Independent that he was thinking about doing a SANTANA-style album with a number of guests. There's been no word on how far along the project is, or when it might come out.
Plant kicks off a European tour on Friday (March 10) at the Caprices Festival in Crans-Montana, Switzerland. North American shows haven't been announced for this year yet.

he did on the last tour. I saw it and the zeppelin songs he did were all rearranged, a lot of the crowd did,nt even know thy were zeppelin songs. The drunk portion of the crowd were expecting the plant from ten years ago , but even plant knows he must age gracefully. I hope to god this is like the 95 & 98 page/plant collaborations (if it happens) and not under the zeppelin banner. They are the only band who ended it right. The reunited umpteen times, and didn,t even stop the tour when Entwistle died. Zeppelin has always been pure class and just because jimmy and robert are seen together doesn,t mean shit. Did'nt halfin also say the original guns were getting back together. Is he some kind of clairvoyent.

They're headlining Ozzfest!
Wouldn't that be fucked?
Actually they were in town to jump in the pile of royalty money they continually make.
No, no. There isn't going to be a reunion. Well maybe but they better do it soon and John Paul Jones better be there. Jason can do the drums and everything will be just peachy.
Guns n Roses will open for them followed by Metallica.
Most likely, it's just business or maybe we'll get lucky. Either way, no breath will be held, no vigil organized, meh, who knows. Looks like pretty much a non-story about 2 legends in the same building and hopefully they talked.

Plant, Jones and Page would have to do it together or it wouldn't be right. Jason Bonham on drums would be cool and the closest to the real thing.
I heard Bob Daisley practically wrote all the lyrics to the first 2 ozzy albums and Sabbath's Eternal Idol. Very underrated musician.

Didnt Entwhistle play for the WHO? Did he play for Plant when he died.....
Plant, Page, Jones and JB's son.....Well, the story said Plant & Page, so it looks like Jones is fucked again.....Jason Bonham is in NO WAY near the drummer his father was, and he's a horses ass to boot. Id hope they'd find a better drummer, unless theyre trying to keep it as close to Led Zepplin as they can....that in mind, John Paul Jones should play bass most definitly.

Couldn't have said it better myself. If they collaborate, I hope they just write a couple new songs together or something. Maybe an acoustic EP in the style of Tangerine and That's The Way. I'd like that.

Did we already forget the lame "Walking Into Clark(e)sdale"? I say Page should do another album with David Coverdale. At least it would rock! If Zep did reunite, Carmine Appice said in his recent interview that he'd LOVE to drum for them.

Oh that's right, Page and Plant. Well, Bonham died in about 1980, and there have been reunion rumours for the last 26 years, so big big deal about these latest rumours.
Apart from that, Page looked really old when he did that thing with Coverdale, and that was in 1993, so he must be about 80 years old now.

Robert Plant has too much integrity.
He has a kick ass album out, with a great band, why would he want to go on a nostalgia trip?
Jimmy Page was great, but he now seems really really desperate. Did the Page and Plant thing, which seemed like more of an excuse to play old Zep songs than actually do anything new, then did the Black Crows thing. Both really good, Page and Plant tour was awesome for somebody who never got to see Zep, but it's not exactly cutting edge exciting music. Not like Plant is doing now, even the Zep songs he plays have a new edge about them.
Also, Jason Bonham is a drummer, John Bonham was a God, anybody who thinks that anybody in the world could do a job on the drums for Led Zeppelin needs to get out the Led again, cos nobody could do what Bonzo did!

Yes, Led Zeppelin rules, but get real people. There is no Led Zeppelin without JOHN Bonham. Plant has repeatedly said that. That's why they didn't bring John Paul Jones into the fold the last two times Plant and Page got together. That was the only way Page could get Plant to sing the Zeppelin songs. He didn't want it to be compared to Zeppelin and those were great tours. But if they didn't do it when they COULD do it ,they damn sure ain't going to do it now when they can't. They are just too old to pull it off. Funny enough, Jonesy is probably the only one who hasn't lost a step live at all. Put this shit to bed already. Jimmy and Robert met in L.A. Big deal. They are probably discussing a guest shot on Page's album and some Zep business (merchandising, old catalog remasters or something). There is no way on God's green earth Led Zeppelin will ever reunite. And at this point, I say good because Zeppelin now would be something akin to, I don't know...Ozzy trying to sing Sabbath songs he can no longer sing....oh right..that's already happening. So add five years to Sabbath's current age and think about that reunion....ugh

Wasn't invited to play on their induction to the 'Rock and Roll hall of fame', don't think they've ever really talked since.
I remember interviews at the time (gotta love the big breakfast) where he said he was quite hurt they left him out of the frame for that and the page and plant. Dunno if they're on speaking terms now, but doubt they'd ever get onstage together again.
Also, people seem to forget that in the last years of Led Zep they were a shadow of the band they were in 1973, so if pigs do fly and they do a tour, doubt it'd be worth parting with money over... Kind of like the Cream thing, saw about 10mins of the DVD and had to turn it off it was so fucking stagnant, nothing like Jack Bruce when he was onstage with Uli a few years earlier and kicked ass

Without Jonesy it is merely Plant and Page. Did anyone ask Ross if P-Diddy was at the hotel (in da house)??? Maybe they are collaborating on some blingady groove.

I love Zep, but this nostalgia thing is getting out of hand. I don't know if it means that the music industry is in such a slump and a downslide that it's actually created more demand for the proven, older stuff, or whatever, but there's a demand for the nostalgia and classic rock like never before. Like someone else said, towards the end of the band's career, they were a fraction of the band that they once were, and "In Through The Out Door" was not exactly a great Swan Song (no pun intended). What people don't really realize, is that as unfortunate as it was, Bonham's death put the final nail in the coffin for a band that was already coasting on cruise control, trying to find that sign from the gods in how to end a once mighty band that went out confused, rather than swinging.
Plant knows this, Page knows this, JPJ knows this, and the only thing that would get in the way of it would be money. Good for Plant for not wanting to get it done, because Page obviously had no qualms in even half-assing a project with a knockoff Plant (Coverdale/ Page--even though some of that album was quite good). So fuck knows what drivel might have actually came out of a new "Zed Leppelin" project. And that was no typo, what you'd be paying for would be Zed Leppelin. What people would be paying for is false memories, for something that represents something that isn't, and that will never be again. Unless you're totally blinded by who's up there and what they're doing, like me, you'd probably get pretty disappointed in how they were just going through the motions.

I agree with simo solo Plant is as good as ever just different if he wasn't, with everyone copying him over the years he'd seem a parody of himself as far as Plant and Jones, last time Plant blocked JPJ's return they never got along but IF there were a Zep reunion he would have to bury the hatchett with jones No Jones=Walking into Clarksdale Jones had a very integral part in alot of Zeppelin's writing Black Dog an example
I would be glad for them to get a capable replacement for Bonzo Carmine would do By the way Jimmy is healthier then ever these days He was getting on the heavy side in98 which caused some back problems he shed the weight and looks younger then then believe it or not
also it is rumored Plant was going through possile financial problems he was asked upon the release of his latest album what inspired him to make the album he retorted "I,m near broke" bad investments, perhaps he sold the rights to Zep music years ago, who knows, maybe he was joking but that could definitely inspire a reunion
I would love to see Zep return with Jones, but I am skeptikal Ross Halfin isn't exactly the most reliable source these days
