DUFF MCKAGAN Responds To AXL ROSE

VELVET REVOLVER bassist Duff McKagan has responded to a press release issued last week by GUNS N' ROSES frontman W. Axl Rose.
Rose lambasted his former GUNS bandmates, McKagan and VELVET REVOLVER guitarist Slash, claiming that the latter called VELVET REVOLVER singer Scott Weiland a "fraud" and McKagan "spineless" in an early morning meeting at Rose's house last year.
McKagan told Launch that he would rather not get involved in the situation at all. "I think, you know, a lot of it's really unfortunate, very difficult," he said in an interview conducted last Friday (March 10). "I've always just wanted to make great music and that's what I plan on doing. As far as a rebuttal to what he said, or what Slash has said, I won't get involved in a war of words, you know. People say all kinds of stuff and I'm not going to be one of them."
Scott Weiland was not as diplomatic. In a posting at VELVET REVOLVER's official web site, Weiland called Rose a "fat, Botox-faced, wig-wearin' fuck." Weiland wrote that Rose had an "unoriginal, uncreative little mind, the same mind that had to rely on its bandmates to write melodies and lyrics — who's the fraud now?"
Weiland also slammed Rose for taking more than a decade to make the still-unreleased GUNS N' ROSES album "Chinese Democracy", saying, "How many albums have you put out, man, and how long did it take the current configuration of this so-called 'band' to make (the album)?...We toured our album over a year and a half. How many shows have you played over the last 10 years?" The last GUNS N' ROSES tour, in 2002, ended abruptly after just a handful of shows.
Weiland concluded by calling Rose a "frightened little man who once thought he was king."
A VELVET REVOLVER spokesperson told MTV.com that Slash would issue his own response within days.
Rose's initial press release accompanied his countersuit against Slash and McKagan, who have sued Rose over licensing, publishing and royalty issues.
McKagan told Launch that VELVET REVOLVER will enter the studio on April 10 to begin recording its sophomore album.

If you can believe this reported interview, it appears Duff McKagan did not actually respond at all. He merely sidestepped the entire issue. The reason may be that it is not a great idea to talk about a lawsuit before it is heard in front of a court of law.
So far, Slash and Duff have not won any lawsuit filed against W. Axl Rose. That says alot about the facts that are "leaked" to the press.
What is amazing is the comments posted here by some members. They talk like they actually know the guys from Guns 'N Roses and Velvet Revolver. Al Bundy seems to believe he is the authority on homosexuality and the personal dating habits of W. Axl Rose. Why does Al Bundy seem so interested? His information on the origins of W. Axl Rose's name is obviously made up. I would bet he did not get his information directly from the source, W. Axl Rose. I'm sure Al Bundy and the former William Bruce Bailey do not know each other and probably will never meet.
I'm sure the facts will come out after the lawsuit is over. Then we may see who the fraud(s) are.

He's just so shallow he needs to justify his exclusion from the
G n R world because Slash, Duff and Matt have made a go of thier lives and don;t need to be shrouded in mystery, but then again they're concentrating on being musicians rather than pimping press attention before releasing an album.
He's a sneaky fuck is our Axl ... see how loud he'd have to shout if the press (and YOU the fans) sqw thru these clever manipulations of our attention when HE feels like it, and just IGNORE him???
I hope for his sake the album is good or forever lose his whinging platform.

I became a huge fan of GNR before they broke after a friend of mine returned from a trip to LA and turned me onto Appetite. It wasn’t on the radio yet and my little circle of friends passed it from hand to hand. I think I was 19. After a couple of listens, I was a HARDCORE fan. I bought Lies Lies Lies the first day it was available in the store and I dug it. I was at the store at midnight when Use Your Illusion dropped. And I wanted to like it, I REALLY did. But it mostly sucked. It was a faded imitation of a raw band coming up that were more than just angry, they were once authentic, but they lost it, mostly due to Axl. I have a special resentment for Axl for being the catalyst that fucked up a great band. Perhaps it was inevitable. Everything they released after that was only another disappointment.
The rock landscape shifted. When I heard STP, I instantly liked it. Such hard grooves, good rock, different, it was fresh, it jammed. It was RAW, they left fuck-ups on their albums cause it was part of who they are and what they were doing. I could relate. This stuff was so unlike the polished turds that AXL and company had been releasing. By way of comparison it made the late GNR stuff sound so contrived and unauthentic. But all good things must come to an end. I guess I don’t resent Weiland as much for fucking things up because he was an addict, not a dick.
Then came Velvet Revolver. I eagerly anticipated the release. Again, I REALLY wanted to like it and I hoped it was the bomb. But it wasn’t. It was just okay for me. It had a number of bright spots but overall, not a lot of magic. And just for the record, the production sucked (dynamics boys, figure it out). I’m still rooting for Velvet Revolver. I hope they make another record and it rocks. I hope they capture some authenticity. I like the personalities of the guys in VR. I’m rooting for the underdogs. I just don’t care about Axl anymore. After everything I’ve read over the years, his interviews, bandmates interviews, what I’ve seen on Behind the Music, etc. it is just so apparent that Axl is a dick. And I don’t like dicks.

For those of us who grew up on GNR and Motley Crue, Axl's attempt at a publicity stunt is not a shock and is nothing new. He was always a stuck up asshole who got angery when people paid more attention to the other band members. I was lucky enough to get back stage at a show in like 90 or 91 so of coarse I wanted to meet the band member who I had the most respect for and that was Izzy. Axl walks his ass over and interupts our conversation to introduce himself. I just looked at him and said something like hey how's it goin then continued with my conversation. He then went into a 5 minute rant on how he was the fucking singer of GNR and everyone wants to meet him. I could have said what was on my mind and gotten thrown out but I chose to be nice (I just nodded and agreed with him and appologized for my oversite). After the prick walked away I asked Izzy if he was always like that.
All I can say is fuck Axl and for god sake, someone please give him some prozak. The new songs I downloaded were realy not good enough to make me buy the new CD. I have all of the older CD's. This will be the first GNR CD that I wont buy. On the other hand I enjoy my VR CD and am looking forward to buying the next one.

my god, you guys all sound so try-hardish and annoying. if any of you had any brains at all you'd actually find out if shit you're saying is actually true before you say it. al bundy - you're a fucking idiot. axl changed his name from william because axl is part of the name of a band he was in previous to gnr, and the rose part was his biological fathers last name. so sorry to put your theory to waste, it actually does have meaning. and to everyone else who said axl cant write for shit, have any of you actually ever looked at who wrote the majority of gnr songs? it's axl. you guys sound so immature. aren't you all supposed to be grown people? if anyone here was an actual true fan of gnr or velvet revolver surely you'd know a little something? turns out not. the best part about this is im only 15 and apparently know alot more than all you fuckheads put together. do a little research kids, you may learn something. i hate you all. you're such fucking mongrels. go listen to ben harper, and have fun with that.
