ALICE IN CHAINS To Play U.S. Club Dates In Late May - Mar. 14, 2006
Launch Radio Networks reports: ALICE IN CHAINS made only its second live appearance in a decade on Friday night (March 10), when the surviving members of the group performed at a taping of the VH1 Classic series "Decades Rock Live!" The event kicked off a new round of activity for the band, which plans to tour both the U.S. and Europe this year. Guitarist Jerry Cantrell told Launch that one of the main reasons for the group's return is to honor the memory of its late lead singer, Layne Staley. "It hurt enough to lose the guy, but to have him just totally swept under the carpet when he died was an insult," he said. "But, you know, we don't have any control over that, and we were lucky enough to spend time with the guy and call him our friend, you know, and we lived and we built this thing, and it's totally about honoring Layne and honoring the music and celebrating, and it's also about celebrating us being alive and being together."

ALICE IN CHAINS performed five songs on Friday night as part of a "Decades Rock Live!" tribute to HEART. The episode will premiere on May 5.

PANTERA singer Philip Anselmo sang two songs with the group, while COMES WITH THE FALL frontman William DuVall performed another two and dueted with HEART vocalist Ann Wilson on "Rooster".

ALICE IN CHAINS frontman Layne Staley died in April of 2002.

The band members told Launch that they will probably play a handful of U.S. club dates in late May, followed by European festival appearances over the summer and a full North American tour in the fall. Guest vocalists will most likely be used throughout the entire schedule.

damn right! it was a fucking crime the way the press handled (or didnt handle) laynes death. the guy was a phenominal singer wrote great lyrics about real life. he had a drug problem yes but so did that talentless hack Kurt Cobain. Layne was a god and they just billed it as some junky dying. fuck them

the TLC chic die around the same time and her "legacy" was plastered all over the media?? it is a shame layne's passing was basically ignored.
i'm glad jerry hasn't committed to one singer to front the band, that's a good idea for the live shows. if they decide to record again, jerry should just do the studio vox.
damn, going on 4 years already.
RIP Layne, watchin from above on the angry chair.

RIP Layne, and fuck the media for focusing on Lisa Lopez. Anyone dying is a tragedy, so I'm not going to make some classless remark about TLC, but ultimately Layne's music influenced real musicians, and deserved far more focus and introspection.

Leave it to MTv to focus on some dumb bitch who burnt down her boyfriend's house and sang the song "scub" instead of a real artist like Layne. Who made the bigger impact in music in the long run?

Well TLC helped define the new MTV video revolution with that stupid ass overblown waterfalls video and influenced many hip hop and R&B artists now.

They are also one of the biggest selling female groups of all time and the first to receive the RIAA diamon certification for over 10 million sold.

That is pretty influential and don't deny you didn't screw some hosebeast to ANY of the tunes off CrazySexyCool.

As others have said, Seattle has provided more than just "grunge." Those who focused on just that, are apparently surgically attached to whatever MTV tells them is real.

and AIC got me through a rough period in my life just knowing that Layne was in the same boat I was was substance-wise. I only wish he would have not only saw the futility of his problem, but did something about it. I didn't know him but I sure do miss him and I agree...the press trashed him. That was sickening and uncalled for as Layne was so much more than an addict. That problem he had was miniscule compared to the talent he showed the world. Addiction is the worst.

Don't forget SANCTUARY or NEVERMORE!!

I don't think AIC considered themselves grunge, at least they came off that way. And I know Jerry got pissed that they were mentioned a lot in Nirvana's shadow, which is completely gay. Layne's voice was so emotional and unique, I definately am using him as a model to strive towards.

AIC and Phil Anselmo... that´s just awesome.

I have to see them live, just once... it´s one of the bands I never got to see live because of where I live (S. America). Hopefully I´ll have enough for a plane ticket by june or july and I´ll go see them. I know it´ll never be the same without Layne, but if they play with Phil - I could die happy then.

^^^those planning on buying tix: Have you forgot they said they will play these early club dates under different names? They should give clues on their site.

What may also happen is, minutes before they start playing, the club would announce that night's band couldn't make it...but we got AIC here for U!!! Sounds unlikely I get to see them...

I'm sorry but I question Jerry's sincerity. Come on All of you. Would Jerry be doing this if solo career was a success. He needs this. (Even took Sean and Mike with him and couldn't do it.) Why
wait this long. He could of helped with Layne's credibility along time ago. He says, "We built this thing, and it's about TOTALLY
honoring Layne....". Sorry again, but the old saying goes, YOUR
ACTIONS SPEAK LOUDER THAN WORDS. Sure, he DID build "this thing" so he has all the right in the world to do what he wants with HIS past accomplishments. But say it like it is....Has Jerry EVER BEEN TO A LAYNE TRIBUTE? Oh right, he's too busy, had something else to do (ALL 4 YEARS?), he's too big a name because he was in Alice in Chains....Oh wait, I'm not sure but I think Layne was in AIC too right? It's nice SEAN at least had the decency to care AND SHOW UP AT A COUPLE.. SORRY Jerry, but there is NO EXCUSE -- NONE WHAT-S0-EVER -- NOT FOR ALL 4 YRS. And from this post you'd think I hate the group but I don't. I just hate dishonesty....Why don't all you guys check out the words in Bargain Basement Howard Hughes. Jerry, I Love your music, but you and Layne Fed off each other. It's rough isn't it?

I know this is a little late because I hesitated to respond BUT I gotta say three things:

1. The TRUTH hurts obviously....
2. Your rude name calling only shows your immaturity and you are unable to communicate properly with others in any disagreeable situations....
3. You have obvious bias opinions--"cantrellfan" --but I would of said the exact same thing if the opposite happened and it was Layne not showing up for Jerry's support at the tributes...AGAIN, we BOTH don't know what Jerry was doing but there is STILL NO EXCUSE FOR NOT SHOWING UP FOR ALL FOUR YEARS...SORRY!!
