PANTERA: VH1's 'Behind The Music' Special In Production - Mar. 17, 2006
VH1 has officially begun production on a "Behind the Music" special on PANTERA. A photo of ex-PANTERA drummer Vinnie Paul being interviewed by Eric of VH1 for the upcoming program can be viewed at this location. An exact date for the show has not yet been announced.

PANTERA's career overview CD, "The Best of Pantera: Far Beyond the Great Southern Cowboys' Vulgar Hits!" (Elektra/Rhino), was certified platinum on January 13, 2006 by the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA) for shipments in excess of one million copies in the U.S.

The 16-song "Vulgar Hits!" CD, originally issued in September 2003, was packaged with a bonus DVD boasting 12 videos, including two live performances. The bulk of the material was culled from the band's six major-label releases, but also included were non-album cuts "Cat Scratch Fever" (a cover of the TED NUGENT song that originally appeared on the Polygram soundtrack to "Detroit Rock City") and the BLACK SABBATH cover "Hole in the Sky", previously available only on import.

PANTERA's classic "Vulgar Display of Power" (Elektra) album was certified double-platinum in 2004, signifying shipments of more than 2,000,000 units in the U.S. since its February 25, 1992 release.

As previously reported, Rhino Video has set an April 4 release date for PANTERA's "3 Vulgar Videos From Hell" three-DVD set featuring all the band's videos as well as live footage shot during the Monsters of Rock gig in Moscow.

Originally released on DVD in 1999, this version features the same content with improved menus and all-new Dolby Digital 5.1 Surround Sound. In fact, it is the first PANTERA release ever in 5.1 Surround Sound. It features: "Cowboys From Hell The Videos", "Vulgar Video", "3 Watch It Go", and "Pantera Live From Monsters of Rock In Moscow".

I'd never thought we'd be talking about Pantera in a past tense. Now that I've had to reflect......Pantera in my opinion is the greatest metal band of all time. How many bands do you know that played balls out aggression and still go #1. Far Beyond Driven still holds that record. I could name names....Megadave comes to mind...even then no #1 record.....Slayer..more or less followers in todays metal scene. Metallica.....well we won't even go there.

this is a dream come true!! i have waited since the BTM started for there to be a Pantera one.. Vinnie Paul should allow Phil to be in it, and Phil should take part in it since was the "voice" of Pantera. i think if Vinnie doesn't ask Phil or allow him to be in it, then it would be disrespectful to not only ALL the Pantera fans, but to Dime's memory. if Dime was alive, he would see this BTM is for the fans and Dime loves his fans. he would not let his personal feelings get in the way of what we what to see and know. and i hope that it longer than an hour like some of the BTMs are.

PANTERA!!!!!!!!

The thing I hate about these fuckers at VH1 is that they'll only make a behind the music special on a band if someone in the band was killed, maimed, or strung out on drugs. Stupid sons of bitches cashing in on Dime's death. Do you think they would make a special on Slayer otherwise - yeah, only if they were all killed in a plane crash.

since Headbanger's ball had the chance and dropped the ball. That was the weakest tribute show ever. BHTM should be good, all of them are.

Hopefully we will get interviews with Vinnie, Phil and Rex. I have respect for Vinnie, but this Phil blaming shit got old the day after Dime was murdered. Everyone was hurt, greif is not an exclusive thing. Hopefully this is a respectful BTM and not just a fluff show featuring Dime.

COMMENT | Pantera is perfect for the BTM format...

...a rocky start, a change in image, a meteoric rise in popularity, drugs, an internal power struggle then death. If they really want to do it right they will interview the first singer, plus the guys in Exhorder who had their sound and image ripped off by Pantera. Hopefully they will interview the guys in Down and SJR as well. Could be a greta show, but more likely to be a glossed over history of the band.
