SEPULTURA's KISSER: 'It's Not The Right Time' For Reunion With MAX CAVALERA
- Mar. 28, 2006
|
|
Finland's HardcoreSounds recently conducted an interview with SEPULTURA guitarist Andreas Kisser. A few excerpts from the chat follow: HardcoreSounds: [Members of the music] media have been asking the question [if] will SEPULTURA reunite with Max Cavalera for this year's Ozzfest? Is this just a rumor or have you discussed with the idea with Max? Andreas: "It's a rumor, like many others. Since he left the band we have been hearing different rumors and stuff. It's not gonna happen at all. I mean, we have a new album and we are promoting it. I know Max has [taking in] interviews [that he is open] to [the possibility of a reunion]. But it's not the right time for us. But in the near future it would be great just to play with each other again. Who knows?! Next year or 2008, I don't know. I think it would be cool for us and for people who have expectations. Especially for people who haven't seen SEPULTURA with Max, it would be cool but it really is something we don't think about now. Maybe in the future." HardcoreSounds: What´s the situation with Igor Cavalera? When will he rejoin the band? Andreas: "I don't know. It will take some time for him to rebuild his personal life. He just separated from his wife and he has a new wife, a new kid, so his life is a little crazy at the moment. We don't wanna force him into any situations because he needs time to take care of himself. But at the same time we can't stop. We have the album and we have to promote it. We are very lucky to have Roy [ Mayorga] with us which is a drummer that knows SEPULTURA really well. He played with Max before and we have known him for many years. So far he has been great!" HardcoreSounds: What are your future plans after finishing the tour with IN FLAMES? Have you booked any summer festivals? Andreas: "We are working on it now. We don't have any specific dates yet but the plan is to play some festivals. To see some games in the [soccer] World Cup in Germany. Try to do the same as we did in 1994 when we were touring with PANTERA and we saw some games of the World Cup. Brazilians were winning. That's the plan and hopefully in August/September we will be touring through U.S. And try to play in as many places as we can with this album." Read the entire interview at www.hardcoresounds.net.

Sepultura released a fucking masterpiece this year, and Soulfly gave us a good one last year. Both bands are doing awesome, so let's let them tour off these new records, then bring 'em back once that has run it's course.
Doing a 20-minute set on Ozzfest would not be a fitting salute to these legends. They need to do their own tour and play whatever the fuck they want to.
Top Sepultura albums:
1-Chaos AD 2-Arise 3-Dante XXI 4-Beneath The Remains 5-Roots 6-Schitzophrenia 6-Nation 7-Roorback
Top Soulfly albums:
1-Soulfly 2-Primitive 3-Dark Ages 4-Prophecy 5-"3"

It's simply a question of how badly they need the money. The first week sales for Dante were poor and I don't think Sep can sustain a fanbase without bringing Max back into the fold. I think we'll see a reunion sooner rather than later.

Just a month before the reunion of Judas Priest, there was a lot of buzz about a reunion, and Halford was denying all of it. And then, a month later... Rob comes on CNN to tell us that the Priest is back!!! So dont' listen to a word anyone in the Sep or Max camp says. These things are always inevitable. And as for Derrick Green... that guy should call up Ripper Owens and ask for some coping mechanisms.

I also like Max better, but you guys need to hear Dante XXI. I never really got into Derrick's style, but this new record is amazing. Derrick shouts with a conviction he lacked in the first few that he did with Sepultura, and the lyrics he wrote are fucking awesome. Of course, it would still sound better with Max, but the new one kicks ass in old school quantities.
It's a shame the sales are so low.

This has been on here before and I stand by what I said before. Max will rejoin Sepultura within the next twelve months. I guarantee it. The only difference is this time, Andreas is a lot more receptive to the idea of a reunion with Max, whereas less than a month ago, he was vehemently denying it would ever happen, claiming it would cause the fans to lose all respect with the band.
Changed your fucking tune now, I see, Mr. Kisser! Not so much of a politician now Derrick's not sat beside you, eh?
Just stop piss-balling about, and have the fucking reunion already. The fans want it, the industry wants it...and so it would appear now, YOU want it.

You are truly a dumb sack of puke if you think Soulfly is better than old Sepultura. I love both bands still, but very few bands compare to 1980's/1990's Sepultura. You're obviously not even 18 years old. It's not your fault that you've been spoon-fed shitty music all your life, but you can do something about it!
Go to a real record store (not Best Buy or Wal-Mart) and buy these records:
-Beneath The Remains -Arise -Chaos AD
Your balls will drop sometime around the 1:30 mark into BTR, and you'll officially be a man.
Otherwise, go back to watching MTV and nevermind us metalheads.

Evertime someone interviews sepultura, it's when you gonna get together with max, and evertime someone interviews max it's why do you only play with 4 strings. somebody please come up with some new relevant questions! like "max, why does soulfly suck?" Darks ages is cute but got old pretty quick.

Dark Ages may be the most Sepultura-esque release to date, but Max's lyrics are unfortunately headed downhill rapidly. Go read any of Max's lyrics from the pre-Roots era and compare them to Dark Ages.
For Dark Ages, he basically just took the same phrases he's been using for years in Soulfly, and left them with absolutely no context or conviction. The riffage is nasty, but it doesn't connect to that INNER SELF like Sepultura songs do.
I much prefer the self-titled or Primitive era Soulfly. He had something to say then, and he used music to let it be heard. You're too young to have seen any of those shows, but trust me when I tell you that Max was far more pissed off then. Max even admitted that he doesn't listen to much metal anymore. Fortunately for us, he's teamed up with Mark Rizzo, who keeps the riffs brutal (notice the progression on Prophecy and Dark Ages).
I don't mean to insult you, execution.style, but you've got to realize that Sepultura's discography is more than a one-day history lesson. You'll learn to appreciate this one day. You can listen to whatever you want to in the meantime, but if you keep your interest in metal, you will eventually learn to love the classic Sepultura records more than anything else.

It's their best cd since ARISE. Period. Yes it's even better than CHAOS A.D. They're back playing their mixture of thrash and hardcore, with some symphonic touches that are simply great. You know its on the cards. History tells us that. Look at the lists of bands that would 'never' get back together. KISS Judas Priest w/Halford Morbid Angel w/David Vincent The Sex Pistols Van Halen w/Hagar (ok Roth hasn't come back, but they are all still alive! and Roths radio career is bombing)
Where there is smoke, there is fire, so I think its a lot closer than we are told or think.

Been listening to Sepultura since BTR came out and I love the new record. It's the best thing they've done with Derrek in the band. I personally don't compare Derrek to Max because no one could really replace Max. All I know is Derrek sounds great on the new record and the songs are awesome. I would say if you haven't given the stuff with Derrek a chance now is the time. Dante is a great record.

Max's voice has gone to shit, which is why the last 2 albums sound like he's screaming into a cave. He does sound pretty good on Dark Ages but I saw them live shortly after and without the effects. Derrick rules over Max now. His voice fits Sepultura's music better as a whole, he is more consistent, and could actually sing as heard on "Nation".
Just remember, Max went NU-METAL. It was HIS idea to try to copy Korn and Willhaven, Max has said it himself. "Roots" was still good though but nu-metal riff driven Soulfly was dated from the start, I knew they wouldn't last more than 3 albums before changing their style back. I still liked those albums at the time but they are childish compared to what Sepultura stuck doing.

Come on dude, you dont realyl think Soulfly are better then ANYTHING Sepultura do you??
I mean, the albums like Beneath the Remains, pure brutal death metal, amazign for it;s time and on the budget the had and recorded in 52hrs over three nights... Arise, one of the most technically advanced thrash albums of the 90s with mature lyrics, fantastic production and depth of song-writing that spawned 50 copycat bands stragith off .... in my (humble) opinion, they started to lose it with Chaos AD but there were still some blisteringly good tracks on the one too ...
Off to see Destroyer 666 this Friday so I care not anymore ...
