|
|
VENOM's entire new album, "Metal Black", is available for streaming at MP3.com. Due in North America on April 4 via Sanctuary Records, the CD was mixed at the Townhouse Studios in London and contains 14 new songs, including "Antechrist", the demo for which can be heard at this location. As previously reported, VENOM recorded a session for the BBC at London's Maida Vale studios, which was slated for broadcast on Radio 1 before the end of March. This is the second recording by VENOM since 1985, when they recorded four tracks for Tommy Vance's "Friday Rock Show". VENOM recorded the following songs during the latest session: 01. Welcome To Hell02. Metal Black03. Antechrist04. Witching HourVENOM have lined up a number of European dates during the coming months, with tentative plans to play seven U.S. shows late spring with DEVILDRIVER in the main-support slot.

Venom – Metal Black, Sanctuary Records With a name like that, this album had to be a disappointment. Evidently Venom is trying to emulate the attitude and overall feel of their legendary Black Metal opus from ’82. Have they done it? Not even close. Apart from the stupid title, the only thing Metal Black shares with Black Metal is the production, as they both suck. When they recorded Black Metal, Venom was creating a new genre of music, so much could be forgiven. However, in this case, with the technology available, it’s inexcusable. Message to Cronos: I love you man, but you deserve all the shit you’re gonna get for naming this album Metal Black. If you had only named it something else, it would stand on its’ own merits. It’s not bad by any stretch, but likening it to an album of Black Metal’s proportions is preposterous. KKK. (Dale Lammers)

And it's really good. Not great but very solid. Any fan of Venom will not be disappointed and if you're not a Venom fan you don't matter anyway.

i've been a VENOM fan since some of you were still in diapers. hell, i guarantee most of those praising this album were born after Black Metal was released; therefore you don't have the background or rights to say what is "classic VENOM" and what is not. you only know what your daddy or older brother told you. this is crap and a sorry excuse for a VENOM release. even some of the Tony Dolan releases held up the VENOM name better than this slab of crap. Metal Black? Metal Shyte. Cronos...give it up and stop tarnishing the VENOM name.

Gotta love the promos sent out. A CDR with a Xerox cover on the so called one sheet and then...Xerox for the back track listing...

CNET networks purchased the old mp3.com. you'd think they would not make a dumb mistake like that. Especially considering the probability that each section of the site has it's own team that updates it. The old mp3.com had frequent mistakes and spelling errors but yes, this new one does need to get their shit together.

I'm streaming this album and it's actually pretty kickass. Obviously, I'm not a huge Venom fan, but speaking purely from the perspective of an unbiased metalhead, this is quite a record. Yes, there's no reason for the production to be this bad, and it does sink some songs, but it doesn't ruin the whole record.
And as for Buck_Dharna's list, he's largely right. Except I don't think I've ever even SEEN any Accept stories on this board. It's not exactly a band that's been making any news lately.

Im 37 and I like it very much. Its way better than the new Destruction with that shitty drummer.Olly or even Tommy had more power in their sound and style. The new Kreator is pretty lame as well.Exodus aint even Exodus anymore.Cronos IS Venom and "MetalBlack" sounds like Venom -not 1984 Venom, but new Venom.Shit, its just nice to see so many old bands back at it good or bad ,kids nowadays need the history.

EXACTLY my opinion. It's a good intent but the prod could have been SO much better. Set your expectations low.

Trying to relive past glories. They should have named it something else. I also saw Venom in 85 in NYC with the Cro-Mags and Voivod (first ever American show for Voivod). They are now a parody of themselves. Some of you may like the music, but all integrity (what little they ever had) is now gone. Venom gets respect for putting out 3 important albums (Welcome to Hell, Black Metal, At War with Satan), killer live shows and influencing bands (back in the day). I dont think other bands will cite current Venom as an influence. Get the new Celtic Frost instead, their heaviest and most dynamic shit they ever wrote.

Like a few others on here, I've been a Venom fan since `82. I have listened to everything they have ever done that was published, no matter what the line up. I don't even mind the Tony Dolan years. To me the first 4 albums were the best. Metal Black is hardly close to Black Metal. Metal Black sounds like a garage band trying to play some modern monotone crap. The greatest thing about early Venom is that EVERY song had a unique personality and was catchy. That is what made Venom stand out. These new songs have no personality.
Cronos, if you read this, remember when you used to work on those tribal drum beats??? Those that developed into In League with Satan, Manitou, Warhead, etc. that's what the metal world needs, unique, instant classic songs.
I'm disapointed in the new album, because Antton and Mykus are talented musicians and this album could have taken over the world. Better luck next time.
