ENUFF Z'NUFF To Perform Tomorrow Night For VH1's 'Bands On The Run' - Mar. 29, 2006
If you're close to Las Vegas, you have the opportunity to witness the reunion of ENUFF Z'NUFF Thursday night (March 30) as Donnie Vie, Chip Z'nuff, Vik Foxx, and John Monaco take the stage at the Cheyenne Saloon at 8:00 p.m. as part of VH1's new "Bands on the Run" show.

This concert is part of the pilot episode for the new series and brings together Donnie, Chip and Vik on stage for the first time in 13 years.

While there has been no firm confirmation, it is believed that they are competing against BOW WOW WOW.

Often described as THE BEATLES of the '90s, ENUFF Z'NUFF's rockin' melodic music has won them fans the world over with over a dozen releases to their credit. ENUFF Z'NUFF still continues to impress critics and fans with every release. In fact, Ralph Sutton of the nationally syndicated "Tour Bus" radio show recently singled out the band in an interview with About.com as the most underrated band of all time. "I always say that ENUFF Z'NUFF has put out some of the most consistent CDs in any band's history," Sutton said. "They have like 15 albums or something like that and some of their best songs are on the later ones. They never got a fair shake."

Cheyenne Saloon (702-645-4139) is located at 3103 N. Rancho Dr in Las Vegas, Nevada.

And thought they were under-rated then...they got labeled with the Glam thing, so they went out fast.

I'll check the show out..didn't know all the original members were alive.

Their shredding guitar playing of Derek Frigo! R.I.P. brother!

Years before he gained fame as the ax man for the Chicago-based psychedelic glam band Enuff Z'Nuff, Derek Frigo's songwriter father, Johnny, offered him advice:

"Don't ever take a puff on a cigarette, because once you do, it's going to haunt you for the rest of your life."

But the "by the book" hedonistic lifestyle of an MTV star, soaked in chemical dependent debauchery, enraptured the young musician and lingered well after his career peaked in 1990.

Mr. Frigo, the longtime Enuff Z' Nuff guitarist, died of an apparent drug overdose May 28 outside a friend's apartment in Los Angeles. He was 37.

Just seven months ago, Mr. Frigo sent a desperate paean on the dangers of addiction to his father, vowing sobriety. The lanky, brown-haired hockey aficionado blamed drugs for destroying relationships, his career and "the most valuable years" of his life.

"Dear drugs and alcohol. . . . You have managed to keep me in your grasp far too long. . . . But you have not managed to blind me from the light of God, a higher power or my family, which shine much brighter than you," Mr. Frigo wrote. "From this day on, this light will stay on, so your darkness cannot enter my being anymore. Drugs and alcohol, I have to say goodbye to you forever."

Although he grew up with the jazz virtuoso Johnny Frigo, who penned "The Chicago Cubs Song'' ("Hey, Hey, Holy Mackerel") and a singer-actress mother, Brittney Browne, Mr. Frigo was determined to pursue a career in plastic surgery. However, after watching Kris Kristofferson in "A Star Is Born," his interests changed and soon he mastered the "hammer-on" and "banshee wailing" techniques of his hero Eddie Van Halen, boastfully pounding out the licks with the same zealous intensity of the 1980s guitar god.

Mr. Frigo, a former North Sider, secured "LeMans," his first album on a major record label, when he was only 19. A few years later, he joined Enuff Z'Nuff, whose debut self-titled album scored the hit singles "New Thing" and "Fly High Michelle."

"No major labels were willing to sign us up until Derek played with us," said Chip Z'Nuff, the Blue Island native who founded the band. "He was such a great guitar player. He's totally irreplaceable."

The band enjoyed marginal success and gained noted fans like Howard Stern and David Letterman. Enuff Z'Nuff was named the "hot new band" of 1991 by Rolling Stone magazine. Critics often noted the Aqua Net doused hair and lipsticked pouts the quartet adopted during the height of their popularity in the 1990s belied their unique "Beatlesque" sound.

Mr. Frigo admired his father's musical expertise, showing him off to the likes of Jon Bon Jovi. He even invited Johnny Frigo -- 50 years his senior -- to play violin on one of band's albums, and had the then tuxedo-clad 73-year-old play at the band's show at the Park West in 1990, so the two could perform together.

"I love my dad's music, even though some of it is a bit corny. I steal licks from him all the time," Mr. Frigo told a local newspaper at the time.

Mr. Frigo was currently playing guitar with local Los Angeles bands and was helping former Stone Temple Pilots members with their new material, according to friends. He officially left Enuff Z'Nuff in 1992, but played on the band's upcoming album "?" and was planning to join its members on their upcoming tour of Japan and Europe.

"He was a gentle, sweet-loving guy. He was courteous to grownups," Johnny Frigo said.

Mr. Frigo is also survived by his stepbrother, Rick Frigo.

A memorial service is scheduled for June 16 at the Self-Realization Fellowship Lake Shrine Temple, 17190 Sunset Blvd., Pacific Palisades, Calif.

He was a fucking talented guitatist but a junkie who never could get clean...he died a horrible death and when I read this almost a year ago it made me sick...I can't think of a more pathetic way to go out...read the post below and let me know what you think

I posted tis back on here as my friend knew Derek and introduced me to LeMans back in 1984 and said he was 19 at the time, we all knew he would make it somewhere... he died of a drug overdose...

Frigo, who had been battling drug addiction for over a decade, passed away Friday (May 28) 2005 at the age of 36.

A friend of Derek's longtime girlfriend posted the following message regarding Frigo's passing:

"Derek F. died today, well technically yesterday but things have been a bit...

"He was a guitar player (ENUFF Z NUFF?), my friend's boyfriend and a dope fiend! The thing is she loved him madly, no matter how far he dragged her down into the cesspool his life was becoming.

"When I first met him I was skeptical, but has long as she was into him I would smile, be cordial and try and enjoy his company. After he relapsed and took her out with him I was less tolerant. I ended up throwing him out of her place and thought that was the end of it.

"The life we lead can take dramatic turns with serious consequences. And [Friday] was that day. I was thrust into the middle of their drug misery and has I tried to do the things that would protect my friend, I ended up with another friend Shawn trying to pump life back into Derek's lungs as snot spewed from his nose and he shit himself. He looked like the poster child for incomprehensible demoralization. He clutched his phone tightly in his hand and dialed 90. He was probably trying to dial 911 because the dope felt so fucking great and then it was that moment where you know you are going, going, gone. And you will try to grab for life even if you have to call for help with a pocket full of drugs and works.

"The point is how does life bring a person down so far, that one of the last people they talked to on that phone and the one person who is trying to pump some life back into their decrepit body does not like them or care for them. Where were his so-called friends? And those who cared for him? How could they miss the signs, he looked so bad???? Doesn't friendship require that we take an interest in each other's lives, that we are there for each other and make an effort to care?!?!?!? Where were these people who cared for him????

"Is it so simple: that shooting dope is so sexy and feels so fantastic that you do not realize you have just ended up alone and dead with snot all over your face and you defecated in front of people who do not care for you. Or maybe you drive people so far away that the only ones who mind do not like you but came from where you are at this moment.... What a strange trip hard drugs can be..."

"Strength" and "Paraphernalia" are two of the greatest melodic hard rock albums ever...

Like King's X, they just keep at it...releasing quality albums every couple of years and touring clubs to a small but devoted fanbase.

...but man, wouldn't it suck if they lost to BOW WOW WOW on that show. LOL

This is the 2nd season of Bands On The Run, the first season in 2001 was very good and one of the best "reality" shows I have seen. Why VH1 is not going with 4 unsigned bands again is a mystery. No one wants to see a shitty washed up band like ENUFF Z'NUFF or whoever the fuck BOW WOW WOW is.

This show kicks ass! It's about four indy bands from all over the U.S. that are all on tour together. But the catch is that it's an unorganized tour, and each band must promote and play their own show and their own venue in each city. The pilot was awesome and took place in San Francisco, and only included three of the bands. HARLOW is cute, but they're music isn't all hardcore and edgy like they think it is. FLICKERSTICK just fights all the time, which is good for a reality show, but boring after a while. THE JOSH DODES BAND is also pretty dumb, they're not taking show seriously enough by taking it too seriously. My favorite band is SOULCRACKER, just because they know how to bring in the dough. They're the opposites of what the Josh Dodes band is: they take the show seriously by thwarping the other bands, taking requests and playing covers, playing in city areas restricted from public performance, and being cool little geeks. Hence, they're not taking it seriously, which seems to be what works for whatever band is in the lead that night. Each band tries to make the most money from ticket sales and merch sales. By the end of the tour, there will only be 2 bands left. Soulcracker is gonna win it, because they know what they're doing, despite how other bands think they're doing themselves or how bad soulcracker is doing. Soulcracker, if you read this, it would kick ass to get in contact with you guys before you go on to make it big!
