SEPULTURA: 'Dante XXI' Enters German Chart At No. 64 - Apr. 1, 2006
SEPULTURA's latest album, "Dante XXI", has entered the German Media Control chart at position No. 64. The CD was recorded at Trama Studios in São Paulo, Brazil, where the group had previously laid down the "Revolusongs" EP, which contained cover versions of songs from such acts as MASSIVE ATTACK to HELLHAMMER to JANE'S ADDICTION (and was included in the limited-edition digipack version of 2003's "Roorback").

Working under the watchful eye of producer Andre Moraes (with whom they've previously worked on various Brazilian film soundtracks), SEPULTURA's follow-up to "Roorback" is based on the epic poetic masterpiece "The Divine Comedy" written by Italian author Dante Alighieri in the early 14th Century. The three main components of "The Divine Comedy" are Dante's descriptions of Hell, Purgatory and Paradise.

SEPULTURA are currently on the road in Europe as direct support to Sweden's IN FLAMES. Filling in on drums during the tour is Roy Mayorga, who is standing in for founding member Igor Cavalera. Igor is taking a break from the group's touring activities to spend time with his second wife and their new son (who was born in January). Mayorga, who played with Igor's brother Max for several years in the late '90s and again in 2001-2003, has been enlisted for SEPULTURA's European tour with IN FLAMES (which kicked off March 12 in Oslo, Norway), with the possibility that he will stick around for further touring activities beyond the spring.

SEPULTURA's current European tour is not the first time that the band have performed without Igor Cavalera. Back in April 2005, SEPULTURA completed a short tour of Mexico with the help of roadie Guilherme Martin (ex-VIPER, TOYSHOP) after Cavalera was unable to make the dates.

Yes, Dante XXI is actually a good album, despite the production which would have deserved a little more guts.

The best Sepultura album since a long long time.

In my opinion Dante XXI is the best sepultura album, it does a far better job of being unique to their sound without going all numetal roots like. Finally a cool use of the chants that sound in key towards the end of this album as well as awesome use of horns and cellos, Ostia is badass! Only max era album that competes with this is Chaos AD.... Arise is too much like Slayer in my opinion, its good but it isnt sepultura...

...who bitch and moan about how "This isn't Sepultura without [insert name]!" Since when did YOU decide? Believe it or not, bands aren't human jukeboxes who play purely and solely to appease YOU. Shit, as long as the band are delivering the goods (and they sure as shit have with Dante XXI), it's Sepultura to me. Just wait until you have your own band, so you can see how it feels having anonymous assholes hiding behind a modem dictating how you SHOULD act and sound.

There's something in that new record that makes it much more satisfying to listen to than all those average previous releases.

Derrick's performance is pretty intense and the whole concept is musically well rendered most of the time.

The only major weakness is the production. It's not bad at all but it lacks some depth and power.

Nevertheless, this is a great Sepultura album !

well said, and i agree, sep split in 1996 tho didnt they? I must admit this is the best derrik album, everything else he did ssucked, this is at least a "good" album, nothing more nothing less. And anyone who claims to have liked sepultura but doesnt like dark ages is a cock. Dark Ages as someone rightly said, is max doing thrash again. Firt time since chaos but this is efven thrashier than chaos... sick! Not just best max album in ages but Best metal album since 1991 (arise)

lets give derrik a break, he sux shit we all know that now.

I caught them with In Flames the other day and ANYONE can see the huge void left by Max just isn't filled with Green. For a guy that big, he just has zero stage presence and looks like some sort of tribute singer up there.

I mean, you can say what you like, but when the ENTIRE crowd goes wild for the early stuff and remains pretty indifferent to the new stuff, it says a lot to me.

is a fucking mastepiece, the best Sepu record with Greene on vocals and easily their best one since "Chaos A.D.". It even beats "Dark Ages", and that's saying something.
Good job guys, carry on playing thrash with hardcore/punk influences, the way you used to and are back to doing now.

i must say that i have enjoyed sepultura for a long time now and enjoy them because each album is quite different. i have seen them twice on their last 2 visits to australia (with derrick) and was dissappointed at the half empty venues they have played in melbourne. ppl dont know what theyre missing, its worth it just to see igor but derricks growl is fucking awsome, old and new songs! seps will never be the same as they were with max but thats not a bad thing anways

No. It doesn't. The crowd was half and half kids and big hefty metalheads. Don't let freedom of speech and opinion make you sound like an idiot. If you like the new album, that's just great. I was just telling you what I saw at a gig with the Seps PLAYING the new stuff live.

You who want Max back because you think he is the new metal god should be aware of how repetitive his albums are...
