DIO 'Wasn't Bothered' That He Wasn't Invited To SABBATH's ROCK HALL Induction

Legendary heavy metal vocalist Ronnie James Dio "wasn't invited" to BLACK SABBATH's Rock and Roll Hall of Fame induction ceremony and "wasn't bothered" by the fact that he wasn't present at the event, according to the Cleveland Scene Clubs Editor Ferris. After hearing that Ronnie wasn't at the Rock Hall, Ferris called the offices of Niji Management (which is owned by Wendy Dio) to see if Dio's camp had any kind of quote from Ronnie. Niji's Diana DeVille, who answered the phone, said, " Ronnie was not invited, but he's not bothered by it, because he is busy working on his own projects. He wishes them the best." In related news, the Celeveland Scene did a "Last Word" regarding the best non- Ozzy Osbourne SABBATH album. Results include a quote from Alternative Press editorial director Aaron Burgess. Dio recorded a total of three studio albums with BLACK SABBATH — 1980's "Heaven and Hell", 1981's "Mob Rules" and 1992's "Dehumanizer" — in addition to appearing on the classic live album "Live Evil" in 1983.

Heaven and Hell is a Great Album, Mob Rules was a lazy effort IMO, alot of the tracks were derivative of Heaven and Hell, Dio has a habit of doing that, geez Dios solo albums are the same way. Dehuminizer was good because Tony and Geezer wrote the music and brought Dio in at the end to sing with very little input other than lyrics and vocal melodies. I personally like the Tony Martin Sabbath lps, way more diversity in the songwriting.

Simply for his great solo career and those awesome days in Rainbow. Ronnie is also one of the coolest guys I've ever met. Very classy guy who actually took the time to ask me what I thought. His days with Sabbath were they're best. Mob Rules and H&H will always be thought of as the Peak of Sabbath and those shows were awesome.
Saw them in Phoenix back in the 80's and they played THE MOST haunting version of Black Sabbath in which I really thought the floor was going to open up and take us all to hell. Great thing about that show was it was originally scheduled on Easter Sunday and everyone got their panties in a bunch and they had to reschedule. I still get chills thinking about 20 some years later.
This is simply another reason why this Hall SUCKS Ass! Chances are Ozzy will get in as a solo artist before Dio gets in. Dio as we all know is a far superior singer, songwriter and human being. Ronnie has always been about the fans and giving them every dollar's worth of a performance. He doesn't even piss himself on stage.
Next to Halford, I gotta go with Dio as Metal's Alltime Best Lead Singer, EVER!

I seem to be in the minority here, but I love both the Ozzy-era and Dio-era Sabbath!
Face it: both incarnations of Sabbath > over 90% of any other in human history.
By the way, what the fuck is up with that "Black Sabbath: The Dio Years" project??????????? I wish that Scene editor would've asked that question while he had Dio's office on the phone.

All three eras of Black Sabbath were great. At the U.K. HOF Brian May in his speech acknowledged Dio, Tony Martin, Cozy Powell and others for their contribution and it was well deserved. However, at the U.S. HOF Lars nor James said anything about the non-Ozzy years...too bad cause it was all great. It pisses me off when they disregard other members such as Dio and Martin. I know the Osbourne family could care less but I bet Tony Iommi felt their presents and gratitude towards the forgotten members...at-least i'd like think so.

I did check-out the site. I wanted to put my 2 cents in too. However, I just left because all I wanted to read about was BLACK SABBATH & DIO. I would've voted for "HEAVEN & HELL" & "DEHUMANIZER". The first one is my huns fave. We rocked-out all weekend to that one. The second one is my, personal, DIO/SABBATH fave. I L-O-V-E IT! Well, if Mr. Dio "wasn't bothered" by not being invited, or attending the induction, then, I'm not either! :)

Three eras, three completely different bands, each vocalist was unique and brought something different to the table. It's just a matter of preference. The real genius is Tony Iommi, he adjusted his sound and style for each of them. Anyway, they should have at least shown some footage of Dio and Martin at the awards. They both deserve to be in. Btw, I don't mean to forget Ian Gillan's work, Born Again is a classic but it was just one album.

There was a time where I wished for Ozzy and BS to record an album but I don't think Ozzy would do it justice like he did back in the day. Sadly, he just doesn't have it anymore. Dio and Black Sabbath really need to get together and write an album they would break the music world wide open. And the real true BS fans will come out...It's time. Shit, I would be happy with another Tony Martin album. It's way to soon for BS to give up.

I don't care what anyone says, Dio is in the top 5 greatest heavy metal singers of all time! Don't get me wrong, I love Ozzy (well, I love Ozzy's music, but now he is sad), and all the Sabbath albums are great, but Heaven and Hell is fucking awesome. Dio is a metal god, seriously. I know he is cheesy a lot of the time, but fuck, metal IS cheesy itself. I would possibly even put Dio as #1 in my top 5 list. I mean, come on...Holy Diver gets me pumped up like no other song can. For the record, although I love Tenacious D, it is NOT time for Dio to pass the torch. He will never be the Last in Line. Sorry, that was a really bad pun.

these arguments have been going on as long as the day is old. even on joe seiglers old mailer, even back n the early 80's, long before many of these blabberbashers were even sperm in their daddie's balls. they will never end.
i do agree dio belongs there, but shoeless joe jackson also belongs in cooperstown. both will have their day.

That Dio wasn't invited. Ozzy was the more successful incarnation of Sabbath, but Dio is a much better singer (I do like Ozz though) and deserved to be there. It's just another reason why the Rock 'n Roll Hall Of Fame is a joke. Shame on them...

I'm glad so many people here are giving Ronnie the respect he's due. Underdogs like Dio are the true talents. He would never have been invited to the ceremony because none of those fucking people would ever acknowledge that they know who he is. No matter - he is and forever will be among the best in metal. His Sabbath albums kicked major ass - and truly added a new and darker dimension to the band. By the way, Mob Rules is my all time favourite album. Just finished watching the Sacred Heart DVD. Dio, you ARE the man!

I saw Dio, the Scorps, and Deep Purple a few years back, he HAS lost a step. Yeah he still sounds like he does on a record, but he cant hit the high notes as well as he could back in the day.

Dio wasn't invited because the albums he did with Sabbath were simply some of the metal albums that came out at the time - and if Sabbath had ONLY put out the Dio albums - and the crap that came after - the only thing they'd be getting inducted to would be the nearest House Of Blues stage. No arguing that Dio is an incredible singer - but Sabbath's induction was due to their creating heavy metal - and Dio had nothing to do with that.

If there was no Heaven and Hell or Mob Rules, than Sabbath would had died in the the 80's. Because of Dio , they gained a whole new era of fans. Same can be said in the 90's with Dehumanizer. Dio ABOVE all other Sabbath's.

What the fuck! Might as well join the fun! Okay, dio has an amazing fucking voice and it has held up tremendously. dio's problem is that he is incredibly pompous. Listen to any of his live performances. He is so in love with the sound of his own voice that he won't shut the fuck up during what should be instrumental breaks. He's always yelling "No!" for some stupid reason. don't believe me? check out this literal translation of the lyrics from Live Evil.

the best dio Sabbath album is easily Dehumanizer. It is really heavy and contains far more of the traditional Sabbath riffage than Heaven and Hell and Mob Rules. don't get me wrong, those two albums are also good, but they almost sound like some other hard rock band with dio at the mic whereas Dehumanizer combines the unmistakable power of old Sabbath with Dio's amazing voice.

I totally agree and have always thought about this, you bring up an excellent observation/point (hope that makes sense) Of all the post-Ozzy albums there are only two albums that truly have that traditional Sabbath sound. Dehumanizer and Cross Purposes both very dark, heavy and amazing. Actually, I think Born Again might be on the edge of that too it could go either way (maybe) Everything else almost sounds like a different band. That being said the very needed ingredients have always been Butler and Iommi...these two should never be apart.
If you had to categorize the albums by sound I think it would look like this:
All 8 Ozzy albums are on a list of it's own, being it was the original BS
Heaven and Hell, Mob Rules, The Eternal Idol, Headless Cross and TYR: all in the same vein.
Dehumanizer, Cross Purposes, Born Again and Forbidden: Again, all in the same vein.
This is just my opinion, am I the only one that sees it this way. Regardless it's all great.

burns1059, how am i full of shit? heaven & hell really is my favorite album of all time by any band, but i l love all the dio-era albums....it just seems like tony (tony iommi, guitarist for black sabbath....to all the metalcore posers on blabbermouth who dont know who he is, and how you dont know woh the guitarist of the worlds first heavy metal band is beyond me...ok i need to get back to my point), who was a GOD during the ozzy-era, got even better and constructed amazing solos during the dio era (and continued to do so on seventh star, cross-purposes, etc., but they were better in the dio era for some reason)

Was inovative and rocked like hell. The Dio years simply rocked really hard. but by then he was well known in rock circles and it was not considered innovative as much as just spectacular. Anything after the Dio years should have just been Tommy Iomi's solo stuff....Some of it was good. but it's still not up to the high standards set earlier by both the Ozzy and Dio timelines.

First of all, it's nice to see all the love for Ronnie. It's also cool to see all the people who say that "Heaven & Hell" is their favorite album of all time...it's my favorite album as well. Having said all that, I think ALL the members of Sabbath should have been invited to the Hall induction ceremony but you-know-who would have never allowed that to happen. Perhaps that is an injustice but the true fans know the score. No question the original band deserve enormous accolades for what they did for heavy music. They released many groundbreaking albums but there is amazing music that was made by all incarnations of Sabbath that deserve to be heard.
