KISS, JUDAS PRIEST, DEF LEPPARD To Be Honored By VH1

According to The Associated Press, the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame looks to be getting some competition.
VH1 announced Thursday (April 6) that it will debut the "VH1 Rock Honors" next month to pay homage to the gods of hard rock. The inaugural honorees are KISS, QUEEN, DEF LEPPARD and JUDAS PRIEST.
The ceremony, to take place May 25 in Las Vegas, will pay tribute to hard-rock legends much like the Rock Hall of Fame does, with "spoken tributes, filmed packages and performances by some of today's hottest rock acts as well as the legends themselves."
VH1 has aired the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame induction ceremonies the past few years.
"VH1 Rock Honors" will air May 31. It's not the first genre to get the tribute treatment from the network; last week VH1 announced plans for its third annual "Hip-Hop Honors", which will air in October.

I think it's cool anytime any hard rock or metal band get's the respect they deserve during something like this........
There are a hella lotta bands that deserve the honor......
but if Maiden, or Motorhead were picked people would say why not Priest?
I would personally like to see bands they do not always get acclaim praised........like
Helloween, Anthrax, Metal Church, Danzig, Manowar, Riot, U.F.O,
but do you think that will really happen?
Def Leppard where origionally thrown in with the new wave of british heavy metal.......
the only def leppard I really care for is High and Dry......
A KICK ASS ALBUM......
I would definately call it hard rock.......and for the other stuff called metal at the time, metal........
It is a shame that they suck so horrendiously now, but atleast Joe Elliot speaks the truth.........they did become a pop band.......
but that's not how they sounded when they started out........
It's a fitting place for Vivian Campell's poseur ass to wind up.......
I cant believe he wrote those early kick ass dio riffs........

first of all you guys are fuckheads. Read the fucking article, it says hard rock not metal. Which i don;t really understand why priest is in there cause their metal and i love priest and maiden but clearly they should not be classified as Hard rock. Maiden = metal not hard rock.

Not sure how much weight this Rock Honors will carry but I suspect no more than any of the other bullshit halls of fame or award shows. To those comments saying this band or that band should be in there - you can't honor everybody at once - your time will come. And by the way, how come nobody's been raggin' on Queen? They had their hard rock moments early on in their career but certainly not consistently; and certainly nothing much to speak of since 1977's News of the World.

....thank you VH1. Whatever you may think of any of these bands, there's no doubt they deserve a recognition like this. Sadly, the RnR Hall of Shame will probably ignore KISS and PRIEST forever (and the Coop, Deep Purple and Rush for that matter)...so kudos to VH1 for countering with this.
I'm most happy to see Priest and KISS being honored...though I'm a fan of all four. It will be interesting to see what acts will perform for this...
How 'bout paying tribute to Maiden, RUSH, AC-DC and Van Halen next year.

That's a good list of bands to start with. Most of the posters here will cry and complain (what's new), but they don't know their ass from a hole in the ground. There are a few more that should be added and probably will down the road.

THATS a real tough sell, if you consider their early material like many consider kiss's early material...listen to rock a rolla...thats not metal, thats more blues than anything. blues rock would be a better tag. they did become metal, but that happened somewhere around sin after sin.
dont get me wrong, i love judas priest. painkiller is beyond a doubt one of the best thrash discs ever. but they have ballads as well.
i hate to say it, but kiss and priest CAN be mentioned in the same breath. during the late 70's, they were kings of rock. zeppelin was a dying dinosaur, sabbath was out of steam (compared to their earlier works) if not for pirest and kiss, music would be vastly different today.
i cant stand what kiss has become, but there is no denying the power of the material they recorded in the 70's. come 1980 and on, they started to suck.

I think you have to honor the past in order to understand the present. These groups are LEGENDS! Why aren't you bashers comparing these groups to the groups that were around back then. That was as good as it was. And this is why the music is what it is today... Yes VH1 isn't naming everyone but they can only do one thing at a time. Why give your band 30 years and see how it has impacted the industry.

If it's VH1 it is not an honor. The only reason Priest is included in this is because Halford is gay. That is the only reason pop culture is aware Priest even exits. That's not to rip on Priest but to rip on VH1 and pop culture. VH1 is so shallow they wouldn't know real music if it bit them in the rear. Or has it changed since I got rid of cable a year ago?

Everyone knows VH-1 hasn't been a music channel for a long time. This being a channel that once showed BEHIND THE MUSIC almost on a daily basis has now turned into a celebrity driven shitfest not too much unlike their counterpart, MTV. Nowadays if they air an episode of BEHIND THE MUSIC it's always the same fucking episodes on KID ROCK, BRITNEY SPEARS or GUNS N ROSES (where's the KEITH MOON episode??!!). It's really a shame because VH-1 used to be a very watchable channel at one time that also showed other documentaries on artists (like the old "LEGENDS" documentarys on Clapton, Hendrix or John Lennon). So for VH-1 to even bother staging this farce of an "Honors show" (and yes, Hip-Hop gets an Honors show before Hard Rock??? Just exposes VH-1 more for what they're really about) and think anyone with a REAL BRAIN who takes music seriously will believe in any of it is just retarded. Unfortunately, some idiots will fall for it and bands like KISS will reap the benefits of it whether you like it or not.

U fuc*kheads just forget that Def Leppard is one of the biggest selling rock acts ever....65million records? whine on about ure maiden, motorhead, anthrax or whatever.... Def Leppard changed rock music in the 80`s with their Pyromania album....Hysteria broke alot of sale records...Adernalize sold over 3million copies (and was considered a flop)...
And high and dry is also a kick as album......
people keep whining on that they should have quit while on top.....but come on, how many bands quit while their on top?? Zeppelin? death took care of that, Nirvana?? same same.....No one quits at the top....no one has the ability too make 10 kick ass albums, must groups dont even make 1...Def Leppard have at least 3 albums that are classics...
Give the guys the respect they deserve....And get ure ass out and buy: high and dry, pyromania and hysteri if u dont agree with me...
