NEW YORK DOLLS To Release New Album In July - Apr. 11, 2006
On July 25, 2006, the seminal NEW YORK DOLLS, a band that has been accused of inspiring everything from punk rock to hair metal, will release their eagerly anticipated album, "One Day It Will Please Us To Remember Even This".

"A lot of the mess people are listening to gets blamed on the DOLLS, but we've always been just a stupid R&B-based rock 'n' roll band," says their idiot savant leader, David Johansen.

In 2004, former NEW YORK DOLLS fan club president Morrissey made the request that reunited his boyhood idols, THE NEW YORK DOLLS, for the Meltdown Festival, which he was curating at the Royal Festival Hall in London.

"Basically we got together to do a one-off show and have a couple of laughs. That quickly turned into two shows, and was so well-received that offers started coming in from festivals; Reading, Leeds, and all the mud baths in Europe, including a bunch co-headlining with fans THE WHITE STRIPES," says Johansen.

"We were having so much fun, we decided to continue past the summer, and naturally, started writing some new songs," says Johansen. "Besides Syl and myself, guitarist Steve Conte, bass player Sami Yaffa, keyboard player Brian 'the Professor' Koonin, and drummer Brian Delaney, who we insist on calling 'Delancey,' everyone in the band contributes material."

The new album — featuring 13 new tracks, including the first single "Dance Like a Monkey", "Take a Good Look at My Good Looks", "Maimed Happiness", and "Runnin' Around" — was produced by Jack Douglas, who made his bones engineering the first eponymously titled NEW YORK DOLLS record, and has since produced everyone from JOHN LENNON to YOKO ONO, and a few other big ones along the way.

"Jack's always been good to us, so we thought we'd throw him a bone," says Johansen. "One Day It Will Please Us to Remember Even This" includes guest appearances by Michael Stipe on "Dancing on the Lip of A Volcano", Iggy Pop on "Gimme Love and Turn On the Light", Tom Gabel (AGAINST ME!) on "Punishing World", and the DOLLS' own hero, Bo Diddley, on "Seventeen".

"There's so much negative bullshit being forced down people's throats in the marketplace, we really wanted to create a thing of beauty that will stand the test of time, and hopefully add something positive to people’s lives," says Johansen.

"I don't care if this record is a hit," Sylvain Sylvain declares, "just as long as every man, woman, and child buys it." Producer Jack Douglas adds, "This is the band that gave the world 'Personality Crisis', 'Jet Boy', 'Looking for a Kiss', 'Puss 'n' Boots' and 'Trash'. Maybe we can't forgive them for that, but they swing harder than anyone around, and this album is a fuckin' masterpiece."

The DOLLS are planning a world tour in support of the new release on Roadrunner Records, starting summer 2006.

"Playing music is the best thing in the world," says Johansen. "It makes show business almost bearable."

It's looking a little barren with just two original members, and the absence of the mighty JOHNNY THUNDERS is really felt.

Still, these guys really did inspire a billion bands.... every "big-hair" band of the 80s had their own JOHNNY THUNDERS wannabe in there.

You Can't Put Your Arms Around A Memory....

I went & saw DTK/MC5 last year in Atlanta and had a blast! So what if some of the guys are dead? Why should some of us who wasn't quite old enough at the time to see the original lineup be denied the chance to see them now?

No need to bash RoadRunner. After several years in the Nu-metal market they have been pushing real metal acts right and left: Dragonforce, Opeth, Nightwish, Cradle of Filth, and Black Label Society are all on RoadRunner now. Thats a pretty strong metal selection for a label that size.

WRONG!
You have to see what they look like on stage nowadays.
They look more like the Rolling Stones than drag queens if I'm correct...

Hey if anyone is reading this and interested at all about Quebec Stoner Rock Band AUT'CHOSE (the obscure francophone side project that Voivod was working on last year), they finally found a replacement for 2nd guitar, the parts 'PIGGY' was playing--READ ON. Nothing too wild, but I love that band. The new guy is a young gun named Alex Crowe from the montreal band TRICKY WOO... see here www.myspace.com/trickywoo

I posted this news bits to Bori but I guess he didn't bother posting it so far.

is basically a bullshitter. he said in his 30's, he's too mature for a dolls reunion, he needed to be more refined ala buster poindexter.

but in his 50's he has a need to be 21 again

Yeah, that's kinda what I implied in my post above. Never made a record with them though. He replaced Johnny Thunders.

Blackie Lawless (born Stephen Duren on September 4, 1956) is a
singer and guitarist. It all started when he was nine years old.("My brother had a guitar and I used to sneak down to his bedroom and play it when he wasn't there"), and he had his first guitar when he was about ten years old and earned his first pocket money with his first band called "The Underside". He was in a street gang with Ace Frehley and suffered a serious stab wound in a fight. At the age of 14 his father sent him to a military school in Florida to learn discipline but was thrown out after beating up a Sargent Major. At 16 Blackie played with "Black Rabbit" in local bars. Another early band was "Orfax Rainbow". After leaving high school he worked two years for his father's construction firm.

For about fifteen days he played for the New York Dolls replacing Johnny Thunders during their tour thru Florida in 1974. The band broke up he went to California with Arthur Kane (Arthur kane (february 3, 1951 - july 13, 2004). They founded the "Killer Kane Band" .Single "Mr Cool" featured Blackie as the singer. At that time his artistic name was "Blackie Goozeman" . After about a year Arthur went back to New York. Blackie stayed in Los Angeles
